So does that mean we can invade New Jersey now and restore order?

Blame Joisey's legislature also. Although the Assembly Speaker has been pushing for reduced spending (definitely not a bad idea), there'd be a whole other fight over what to cut, so the suggestion sure isn't helping things. At least Corzine has been camping out in the capital. But yes, the beaches and casions and such, as well as state workers, are caught in the crossfire. I wonder how big this will be when Corzine runs for re-election (if/when) in a few years.El Justo said:DOWN WITH CORZINE!!!

The Governor of New Jersey?El Justo said:i mean, who does he think he is?
Well he did earn himself a pretty penny in the private sector. That the current deficit can be fixed with a simple sales tax hike sounds like an enviable position to be in, actually, instead of having to yet navigate the protected projects of legislators. Though that will probably happen next year.does he think he has some sort of midas touch or something?
Being a rookie isn't necessarily a bad thing. Look what entrenched long-standing leaders have done to the state of New York (Pataki, Silver, and Bruno). Wrecked the government and even though we're finally out of the 20 years of late budgets, it's still a minefield that must be crossed every year.he's a rookie in Trenton and he was a poor senator imo. plus, even his own party is fighting him tooth and nail on the sales tax hike.
it's just not right - he's highjacked the state legislature imo.
Yeah, just have Tony Soprano and Christufuh run things. I'm sure we could trust 'em. Fuhgettaboutit.silver 2039 said:If the governm, ent can't afford regulators, change the law so casions can operate without regulators.

So who can?El Justo said:nothing good can come out of this despite what some may say. if corzine thinks he can stand on his head and right the ship he's sorely mistaken. no one man can do that nor can one governor take it upon himself to balance a budget that has run in the red for decades.
You can say that about any elected official in the state, what makes Corzine stand out?sure, the bonehead earned a ton of coin in the private sector. however, he wasn't spending taxpayer dollars when he was w/ Goldman Sachs.
You're speaking of common good, then not dishing it out to the legislature (who also isn't budging) and complain that Corzine's actions would risk the re-elections of some legislators. Don't you see the clash between those concepts?my problem is that his actions appear reckless and he's jeopardizing the re-election of many of the state legislators. he's acting selfishly and refuses to budge which is the kiss of death in politics. although the best thing of all is that it will likely turn into a 1 term governor which is a-ok in my book.
i also don't want to hear him being applauded for standing up to the state legislators. that's crap. their responsibilities as elected officials is, imho, to work together for the COMMON GOOD of all and it's clear that the state senate ain't budging...so do something! now!!!

NJ does smell. at least the industrial block in the north (and Camden). it ain't like that though in almost all parts south, especially the southeast of the state where it is unusually rural (largest underground water aquifier on the east coast, largest continuous pine forest from MA to VA, large tracts of wetlands that are protected from development, etc). and south Jersey boasts some of the nicest beaches all along the east coast.
we get knocked on for having too many nuclear waste dump sites. there isn't one near me for 60 or 70 miles and they're all in the north.
we're chided as the "armpit of America" b/c we're cradled in between NYC, Philly, and DC. that's a bad rap. ain't nothing wrong w/ that imho.
there's also jokes about how lots of famous people who were born in Jersey often don't acknowledge that they're really from Jersey (no Joisey! that's too stereotypical!)
and to stay on topic some - our state politics have been traditionally mired in red ink, scandals, and now the most recent fiasco - the govt shut-down.
as for the exit thing - it is indeed the Garden State Parkway exit #s that are more recognizable to travellers than the town names themselves. i do live not far from a GSP exit but i won't say!
