Chieftain's and Warlords of all! We must unite to defeat this great menace that is: Regent. No longer shall we fight pansy AI's or cardboard enemies. No, now we will truly fight!
Basically, I'm looking for anyone who plays below Regent.
Level: Regent, duh!
We will play with 48 hours for Got it and 72 hours for update.
Once I have 4 players on board, I will roll 3 starts and we will choose.
No variant.
Civ 3 Conquests version 1.22
Personally am leaning towards Babylon for the civ.
I hope to get Conquest, but domination will work too.
Roaming barbarians, 5 billion years old, temperate, normal climate, and 70% continents is what I prefer.
(This is my first SG, so remind me if I missed anything.)

Aww, noone wants to take on Regent? Maybe I'll make a single player story then.

Um, the Christmas Holidays take people away from the game. Your first post was on Christmas Eve; I think you are in too big a rush.

Also, most people want to know what kind of SG they are getting into; things like Difficulty (which you have provided), which civ to play, map stats and desired victory condition. If this is a variant, like Alway War or No Science, that needs to be stated, too.

Hmmm, sure, thanks for the advice. As said before, this is my first SG that I'm hosting, so I'm still learning. I'm personally leaning towards Babylon (which is my favorite civ), Large, and middle rain and temperature (Forgot the names), with 5 billion years. I'm also one for conquest.

lurker's comment: Try posting a link to your game in the Succession Game Registry at the top of this forum. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=33851&page=19

You might also have a look at TheOverseer714's sig. He started a very successful series of SGFN's (Succession Game For Newbies) which attracted a whole group of new players. His sig would show up wherever he posted on the board, and most newcomers start posting in the General Discussions forum.

I wish there had been an opportunity like this three years ago when I was new to this site. Good luck!!! :)

lurker's comment: I'll be watching. Regent sure is a beast if you don't know how to handle it. And you're certainly right about the Cheiftain/Warlord AI's being total weaklings.

Also, you could ask joining players about their civ preference/other preferences (especially the civ preference)

lurker's comment: All of this information should go in the OP. A potential signup will read the OP, but may not get any further than that. I suggest including the following information in the OP:
  • Version;
  • Civ choice(s);
  • Variant & special rules;
  • Difficulty;
  • Victory condition;
  • Settings (landform, barbarians, etc.);
  • Known players;
  • Story, if any.
Good luck!

I would like to try a regent game but I only have vanilla. I have not seen Civ Complete anywhere nearby. It seems it is considered old by the gaming community... sigh

I also use the "less corrupt" mod bic but I could get rid of that for a game or two.

Every time I try to play on Regent - and I mean every - they dogpile on me almost immediately. I have offensive units and I am not last in techs (or first) but they just start in on it. An SG might be my way into the higher ranks.

lurker's comment: I am finding that problem at Emperor level, but only as the Byzantines. My problem seems to be pride. They demand techs, and when I refuse they DoW me. The higher the level, the more demands you receive. The AI's are more likely to declare if you refuse also. You might also want to get them before they get you. As far as getting CivComplete, go to Amazon, they usually have new and used copies at good prices, and since they are international, they charge no sales tax. The standard shipping is generally not too high and you'll get it within the week.

I got my copy from Amazon, $20, about two years ago.

I've also seen Civ 3 Complete in Target for $19.99.

If you got any money or gift cards for Christmas...

I have asked my son to order it from Amazon dot com as dot CA does not have it at all.

I will hear from him and could have the game in a week or less. I can get 1 day shipping (which is not receiving ...I know) possibly.

I would really like to be able to move up. I am running out of ways to make the game new on Warlord.

Excellent. Just remember, unless your vanilla is fully updated, those old saves won't work with Complete. Which might be just as well, since Conquests is a different game in some ways, you'll want a clean break anyway. Something you might want to do is read some threads about how Conquests is different from Vanilla/PTW. And of course read some of the various SG's for beginners/newbies and the other ones about playing at Regent and below.

I have been reading SG's for a while now. It is that reading that got me past Chieftain and at least up one level.

I will go and check some articles on differences and newbies though. I could stand to learn a thing or two. :mischief: :lol:

While you waiting, have you tried any of these variants, from Comprehensive Guide to Variants by Arathorn?

I did try an AW game - my first Warlord was an always war. I was too blind to see that I was mired in jungle - a new graphics mod and failed to see the river that ran right across the main entrance to my city. *Always War (city name) was at the northern edge so the south exit was most used.

I tried a 5 city challenge a couple of times but my avarice got in the way of my staying with it for too long.

I did a one city challenge on regent years ago and lost that one too. Who knew that Honest Abe would be so mean :cry:

:lol:

I have taken to setting win conditions and trying to achieve them. I just tried for a 100K win but lost my nerve and launched the space ship instead.

Quick question... do I need to use my photobucket account for posting pics?

Wait, do you want to join? (Once you get C3C)

All right, welcome aboard. I'll add you to the roster tomorrow, can't right now.

lurker's comment: Culture Victories are always hard, especially on higher levels.

Photobucket or Imgaeshack works well, as will CFC's Upload Server.

Just one quick comment about Civs. I like the Persians for an early War game. They are industrious - very useful for infrastructure. You can do a quick run to IW (we start with BW - at least in vanilla) and the Immortals are majorly strong against even spearmen. they tend to last for quite a while as other Civ's keep the old stuff around.

I could be wrong about this on anything past Vanilla so feel free to disregard.
