Myth01- Training Day- Regent

FP would be nice except for Zulus on our doorstep. The Zulus will probably attack us first, so we need a Sword Army to teach them some manners.

I expect we'll generate a 2nd leader in the Zulu war; that one will probably become the Forbidden Palace.

Agreement from my side.

Regarding Pink Clover, she is still dedicated to the cause of roaming our shores. The PinkE, on the other hand, was sunk.

BTW I found sea tiles from far away, could that be an island? It has like 50% chance to be an island...

And IMO FB gives secondary core, it does lower corruption alot. I often build it near my old capital and then change palace to to the center of map, for more output. Cramps my building ability for a while, but it is better to have core near enemy.

If you guys wish a sword army, then a sword army. We'd need some catapults under than and we can use those few elite archers.

CBob please keep any eye on zulu warriors and if that barb nest hunting idea was good, keep doing it.

I miskeyed PinkE into ending her turn in a sea tile. She did not survive. :(

In Conquests the power of the Forbidden Palace was greatly reduced. In Vanilla and Play the World, the FP did function as a second palace; in Conquests it reduces corruption by increasing the Optiomal City Number (I think). A standard practice in Vanilla/PTW games was to build up the core around the Forbidden Palace and then jump the palace to another location and have two cores. In C3C this tactic is not needed.

However, you must do your palace jump before you get Steam Power, since the goal is to be have your core closer to the enemy. Once rails come in the distances just don't matter.

Please add me into 'Skip' block, I managed to broke my laptop, some unexpected ram issues or perhaps bios mistake... Hoping that format and reinstall will help :) If not then it is going to cost me like 20 dollars and ALOT of time.

This computer I am using is not good enough to play civ 3, besides keyboard is sticky(don't ask me why, I DO NOT want to know)...

Sorry, hopefully will get it OK in few days but better be ready for anything.

I should have my new game by the end of the week - it is to be hoped that it will be here sooner but that is my target date for now. I hate snail mail

I was planning to load the original save and play a bit to get used to stuff before I sign on officially.

Ouch!

Civ3 only needs 400 MGHz of clock speed, if that helps any.

I'll try to look at the game tonight.

No, I just go to my User Control Panel first and see what threads I've subscribed to have been updated.

But I do tend to check in several times during the day.

I do stop by when I get an email to say someone has posted but I am usually always logged in for the day.

lurker's comment: It's called "Email Notification", which can be turned on or off via Profile Options.

I just noticed this. I have never played an SG before and I am only now learning Regent. it was Myth's first post about a Regent Game that got me playing it.

I have some wins on Regent but lots more losses and cut and run games.

Same

I have. Breaking trade rep.

This trading part of the game... including keeping a clean rep and yet getting good deals is something I hope to gain from this TDG. it is my absolute weakest area of this game.

Playing a solo game is very different from an SG.

The biggest difference is in planning. In my solo games at Chieftain I normally did not have a plan. Build everything in every city and slowly take over the world. Fiddle-fart around and still win.

A Succession Game, by limiting a person to only 10 turns at a time, forces you to pay more attention to what you are doing. Keeping a turn log helps because now you have some time to reflect before you build that city or move that worker or change that build. Knowing that other people will be watching what you do, good or bad, means that you will play better since you don't want to do poorly in public.

One of the more difficult things about an SG is staying current with the in-game situation. When the game is moving slowly (like this one is right now) it does become difficult to remember exactly what is going on. This is why my preflight/preturn analysis tends to be so detailed. I use the detail gathering as a way to refocus on the game. In turn, this helps me form a rough plan of what to expect when I play and what I need to do to help the next player achieve their goals.

All of which means this: playing in an SG will help your solo games because the planning part of the SG will creep over into your solo gaming. You will win more and could even go back to some of the cut-and-run games and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Here is a link to Recovering from Last Place after Expansion Phase, Step by Step, where zerksees took a game at 590 AD, playing Japan, and did rather well against 11 AI. I think it was on Regent, too.

I am reading the "Recovering" article now and even a few of the off-shoots in the article. A good read and a bit intimidating. I do use some of the techniques he mentions. I love to acquire through city squeezes.

It's not THAT bad. If I recall correctly, as long as we kill Zulu before contact with the other continent, our rep will be good, because they don't know any better. Isn't that right?

You are correct. We named it after Arrian on Poly way back in vanilla or PTW. He was the first one I saw use the concept repeatedly. Just be sure they get no contacts. It was called the Arrian Deception.
