NES World/Regional Maps Requests Thread

Another thing: North King, could you possibly create a 1000 BC version of the map for coastlines and rivers (mostly the Persian Gulf and China, but there might be some other places I'm unaware of)? If not then not; I suppose that I could do it myself, but you're the designated cartographer, after all. ;)

I only have a couple of sources for ancient coastlines, though I can try.

EDIT: On which map?

"Earth, Blank, Northern Style"... Only that just made me realise that we still will need to add the additional rivers on the basic version first. Hmph.

It's really not hard to add rivers; it just takes patience.

EDIT: I can give people a mini-tutorial on how to do it if they promise they'll actually do it.

Hah. :p No, I was just suggesting all of this randomly!

Sure, why not? I probably will have the time at some point in the near future, though if you were to PM it to me right now that would be swell too as I have very little to do in the next three hours or so. :p

Please send it to me. :)

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. It follows that all progress depends on the unreasonable man."
- George Bernard Shaw

I am commencing with being unreasonable--more so than usual. Here is the listing as it currently stands:
  • Ebro
    [*]Elbe
  • Daugava
  • Dniester
  • Godavari
    [*]Guadalquivir
  • Krishnu
    [*]Loire
  • Narmada
  • Oder
  • Orontes
  • Po
  • Sava
  • Rhone
  • Tagus
    [*]Ussuri
  • Vistula
This has been solely determined by das and North King due to the utterly pathetic turnout on the matter. The Elbe and Guadalquivir have been completed by North King. For the purposes of continuity, the Ussuri is best constructed from the borders of the modern map.

Otherwise, nothing has been done. In the equivalent time period, I have completed over ½ of Mexican cities (100 processed), South Korean cities (92 processed), Taiwanese cities (65 processed), Japanese cities (462 processed) and approximately ⅓ of American cities (277 processed). That means I have analyzed a combined total of 996 data points in the period the rest of you (North King excepted--and he is a busy man) have done jack-all, in a less efficient and more-time consuming process than is required for river plotting.

It is also the equivalent of approximately 8 to 9 average-sized rivers like those on the list, or in other words, approximately 60% of the workload currently remaining. I have not been working continuously or stringently. Doing half the work load I have, three people could have finished in the same period of time. Finished.

In other words, your efforts are laughable. You are laughable. Your laziness, used to it though I have grown, is truly of vile and disgusting proportions. You make me sick. It's amazing anything gets done around here. I never, ever, want to hear anybody who even glances at this thread and this post complain that something on the scale of an update is taking too long when apparently nobody except one man can be bothered to spend a measly hour of their time--the time most of you probably piss away daily just refreshing the forum index--in assisting with the creation of the definitive map for NESing.

Until such time as this situation changes, I hereby officially reject, ignore, and go so far as to disavow the existence of any intangible and non-material suggestions or criticism of the project--if you cannot be bothered to contribute when doing so is an easier task than shaving or clipping your nails, then I really don't care what you have to say, no matter how reasonable or rationed.

I'm not truly angry, I'm just seeing if mocking people gets me the results asking won't (I doubt it, hasn't worked before), but really it is quite pathetic and sad.

What map?,.,.,

These.

Note to Self: East Timor has gone missing, fix that at some point.

Blah we already have perfectly fine maps, you're just creating more work for yourself because you like to grumble and ramble

I am also unsure as the need to create such a map. The ones we have already suffice. The extra detail makes no difference to the game.

Ja if he wants it so bad he should just get on with it. In the time it took him to make that post he could be slightly closer to finishing

How funny then that all the "elites" you like whining about so much, including the maker of the map you think is just fine and dandy, want to upgrade then. And furthermore, it already exists. I suppose you could be the first blind NESer I'm aware of, but I somehow doubt that.

Congratulations on not paying attention. I guess that's what happens when you wander in, see an opportunity to make be a wiseass, and don't know what's happening.

I have said several times that I don't care what rivers are on the map, and that I'm content with what's already there. The people who keep . .. .. .. .. .ing about the selection... are the rest of you. The same people who aren't doing anything to rectify the situation, despite demanding a resolution.

I'm stunned at the hypocrisy, is all. I'm doing the work I want done so badly. I'm just making it clear that I will only do the work I want, not the work most of you are willing to put off doing in the hopes that I'll do it for you. Now, unless you'd actually care to get a clue as to what the hell it is you're commenting on before you shoot from the hip: bugger off.

An because I call them the elites means anything? I think your missing why I bestow such a title.

If they want it, sure moan that all they do is ask and not give.

All I am saying is that I do not understand why we need to create an accurate map when so many exist already. A NES map merely needs to show the most basic information, and its accuracy is irrelevant. The have RL to obtain the information from, not by counting pixels on a map we make.

Whoo-whoo! All aboard the clue train! Last stop is you! IT ALREADY EXISTS. This program is what's known as MODEFIKAYSHUN. You may have heard of this word before, though it may have been spelled less intelligibly! I am ambivalent toward this MODEFIKYASHUN, but some people believe it is necessary. I am criticizing them for believing this and not taking steps to bring it about. This notion is much like that program of MODEFIKAYSHUN which lead to the current map you are so ardently defending, only compressed in time so it does not take years to achieve. But apparently you do not believe even that was necessary.

Well, Abaddon, if you think progress is stupid, why don't you just go back to using this then? I mean, all those details on the new one that's been refined for several years, they're pointless. You don't need accurate shapes, positions, or sizes. You can reference real maps for that. It's just the basic information, right? There's no sense in refining things when you can is there? Jet engines? Broadband? Color TV? Who needs those. 9600 baud on a monochrome monitor for the win! Man, candles are so much better than lightbulbs! Wasn't it just cooler when the Sun went around the Earth? Stupid scientists and engineers, wasting their time when they could get by with what we had previously! Living in caves was awesome! I want to be an amoeba!

You're happy with eating flank steak every day. Good for you. Some of us would prefer to wait a few days and eat fillet mignon instead.

Any more straw for that?

If I give you more, will it make you stop interjecting your opinion as to the efforts of others in doing things which ultimately have no impact on you since you're content to stay with the status quo and aren't obligated to upgrade? Newsflash: nobody cares who loves what map or why. Nobody here has the power to steal it from you and make you use something new. So why do you keep complaining about the production of something new, when it's immaterial to you? And don't say you haven't, this is the second time now you've done so, at least, and if you deny it, I will freaking cite sources.

Its possibly the 5th or 6th time I think. One for each time you try an cajoal people into helping you.

I think when you stop hopping up an down about it, i'll stop taking a pop. Its just too easy.

Maybe instead you should see an optometrist. Or find a Kindergarten teacher. You either can't see or can't read. I'd suggest you could be a rogue Turing program, but its spelling would be better.

This is like poking a hornets nest.. silly, potentially painful, but I just can't help myself :)
