NES World/Regional Maps Requests Thread

Congratulations on not paying attention. I guess that's what happens when you wander in, see an opportunity to make be a wiseass, and don't know what's happening.
Thanks

I have said several times that I don't care what rivers are on the map, and that I'm content with what's already there. The people who keep . .. .. .. .. .ing about the selection... are the rest of you. The same people who aren't doing anything to rectify the situation, despite demanding a resolution.

If you don't care then shut up? simple

I'm stunned at the hypocrisy, is all. I'm doing the work I want done so badly. I'm just making it clear that I will only do the work I want, not the work most of you are willing to put off doing in the hopes that I'll do it for you. Now, unless you'd actually care to get a clue as to what the hell it is you're commenting on before you shoot from the hip: bugger off.

How about just not doing what they want ,instead of going on and on about how you aren't going to do it? I think they'll get the idea when its not done.

Whoo-whoo! All aboard the clue train! Last stop is you! IT ALREADY EXISTS. This program is what's known as MODEFIKAYSHUN. You may have heard of this word before, though it may have been spelled less intelligibly! I am ambivalent toward this MODEFIKYASHUN, but some people believe it is necessary. I am criticizing them for believing this and not taking steps to bring it about. This notion is much like that program of MODEFIKAYSHUN which lead to the current map you are so ardently defending, only compressed in time so it does not take years to achieve. But apparently you do not believe even that was necessary.

Well, Abaddon, if you think progress is stupid, why don't you just go back to using this then? I mean, all those details on the new one that's been refined for several years, they're pointless. You don't need accurate shapes, positions, or sizes. You can reference real maps for that. It's just the basic information, right? There's no sense in refining things when you can is there? Jet engines? Broadband? Color TV? Who needs those. 9600 baud on a monochrome monitor for the win! Man, candles are so much better than lightbulbs! Wasn't it just cooler when the Sun went around the Earth? Stupid scientists and engineers, wasting their time when they could get by with what we had previously! Living in caves was awesome! I want to be an amoeba!

You're happy with eating flank steak every day. Good for you. Some of us would prefer to wait a few days and eat fillet mignon instead.

Current map most people use was constructed with alot less moaning by an annoying little . .. .. .. ..

How the can you compare a nesing map with jet engines or a lightbulb? A map that like 30 people will see in the ass end of the Internet. its a . .. .. .. .ing MAP! Christ!

I guess that analogy proves something innate about you. What we have here is a failure to communicate.

I'm not trying to get people to help me. I'm trying to get people to help themselves. I don't want rivers. They do. I just want cities and a map that isn't blobs.

I learned quite early on in that process that I could do it faster, better, and to my own standards if I did it myself--I was willing to actually get the program, to check GPS coordinates, to fix them if necessary, and to get more accurate sources. The few volunteers there were did well, but they didn't do great, and there weren't enough of them to make an appreciable difference in time. The sign-off process is nothing more than a glorified process creating scapegoats in the event at some point somebody finds out even those weren't high enough. I have made no bones about that.

If I wanted rivers done, I would do them myself. I would be doing that now rather than complaining about it, or arguing with someone as obtuse as you, who can't even imagine that people might have a different philosophy of what constitutes an acceptable map, because I know it's pointless. I've done it enough times.

But I don't want rivers done. I don't care. And, really, I've made a large enough point of doing things that other people think are too hard or unnecessary that I am taking my time to draw a line in the sand and say "No more." Some people are like-minded to me in a philosophy on maps, and do believe improvement is good. Those people are demanding certain improvements.

I have made it clear I will not make those improvements myself. I do not value them. And consequently very little (again, excepting North King's efforts) has been done to resolve those. I see this as yet another failure of will on the part of those who otherwise like to run their mouthes about this, that, and the other thing. I dislike hearing them talk as if they expect someone else to do it. I am critical of that. I am being an . .. .. .. .. .. .. . about it because I challenge them to overcome such failure.

Now, if you'd like to continue poking fun at that because HA HA LOL FUNNAY, again, good for you. I'll sit here and explain myself until you've got a foot in the grave, because I don't give a damn either. I would just like to see somebody other than me, or North King, for once pick up the proverbial shovel and do some damn work when they want to see change made.

I can see how you think that's funny, given you'd apparently be fine with calling a circle North America, but I'm not doing it for me. You can keep being a jackass on the matter all you want, but you better get that point straight.

Current map most people use was constructed with alot less moaning by an annoying little . .. .. .. ..
If you want to start a flamewar emu, you really shouldn't tap dance around it so goddamn much. You've got your opinions. Great. Nobody asked you for them.

Where the . .. .. .. . did I say i'd be fine with a circle for North America.

Strong words for somebody who talks like he owns the place at every opportunity, doesn't contribute anything to the hobby, and barely plays a damn thing. You want to flame me, emu? Man up and do it then. Otherwise, nobody asked your opinion.

What the hell is with you and flaming Its like I can't have a discussion around here without you accusing me of flaming. You should look at your own bloody posts, your ten times worse then me. What does it matter how much a contribute or how many neses I'm in you still whine and complain far too much.
And why did you edit this last paragraph? you called me a condesending jerk. What that aint true now?

Edit: stop changing it

So? people don't ask for alot of things.
Its like one of those life lessons parents give their kids "what you want you never get" except in this instance you're getting something you don't want.

Fine. You're a jerk and I'm a whiny . .. .. .. .. .. I don't like you barging in here and telling me what to do on something that doesn't concern you in the least. You don't appreciate my complaints. Why don't you just put me on ignore then, since you don't seem to have anything to contribute to this discussion here and can't stand listening to me, eh? Solves your problem handily. 'Cause I ain't changing, and I guess you aren't either.

Abaddon, this map is INCREDIBLY useful. The thing about being a to-scale map is that you can easily place things accurately, making a mapmakers job so much easier. Also, it is in the right shape of the world, and trust me, there is NO lobster-shaped anything in northern canada.

I dont have much time, so I might not get much done, but NK can you PM me your guide on how to do the rivers?

Abaddon.

Ignore? my god you like leaping to extremes don't you? How would I see your normal posts.
I need to build up a tolerance like I did with Alex

I prefer solutions that work. I'm not a fan of your posting style, you aren't a fan of mine. I'm not interested in getting banned or receiving warnings, and frankly some of the stuff you say pisses me off because to me it comes off as cocky and bossy. I'm no paragon of good behavior either, so I can see why I rub people the wrong way too. We either avoid and ignore each other manually, or automatically. Otherwise, stupid crap like this pointless argument happens when we disagree.

Technically, once the city listing is complete, people will either be able to copy and paste GPS coordinates from the 2008 listing to create custom city lists for previous eras, or fetch GPS coordinates for ancient cities and have them plotted accurately. This will greatly assist in making accurate borders for pre-1850s (about) settings, while the modern borders are of some utility back until about then.

In other words, it'd be really easy for North King or someone else to complete an entire series of high-quality historical maps for general use. With that, historical scenarios would be taken care of, and it'd be fairly easy to create alt-historical maps from those.

So really, what accuracy does is expand what we can do. It's also just plain bigger, which means you can see more--also a good thing.

Has anyone done a decent 500 A.D. historical map? I seem to remember seeing a map series posted by North King that might have included 500 A.D., but I can't seem to find it anywhere now. Any help would be much appreciated.

There are a couple of mistakes in that map, I recall, but I'm holding off on fixing them until we get the cities done for the new map.

As for why its important to switch over... I realize we can all just assume we know what the world looks like, this is true. However, for anyone who's had to put borders on our Africa, it's pretty clear why we need to switch. And that's my own Africa I'm criticizing, so I don't think anyone needs to get offended on my behalf.

In any case, while I can't quite write it up in the next few hours, the first step in this river process is getting Google Earth. I believe it's a free download: that is, I can't ever remember paying for it.

Google Earth and my computer don't seem to like each other, unfortunately...

Can someone explain to me why the Danube isn't on the list of rivers?

Because it's already on the map, along with the Rhine.

I'll help find coordinates when both time and health constraints allow me to. At that point I'll fix those Bangladesh cities too...

Ah, okay. The Danube is probably the one river that I actually care about. Makes placing central and eastern European cities MUCH easier.

EDIT: Crosspost ten minutes after the original posts. Hmm... funky Net, or dumb NK? You [don't] decide.

Same here, it would seem.
