Update 2 - Year 1265
Global Events:
Colonization of Atlantis continues, as Britannia, Svenia, Anglia, Severoslavia and Visgothia establish more and more colonies in the mainland and in the Tariqian (Caribbean) Sea.
Meanwhile, as the Crusade against the Berbers is declared and the partitioning of its territory is planned (much preemptive as proven by the first weeks of the war), the primarily-Berber Visgoth colony at Varidrung (OTL Bahamas), the base for all Visgoth operations in Atlantis, begun a rebellion led by Merendik. Oddly enough, Tariq, the Berber mercenary captain, did not join the rebellion - yet. This damages Visgoth economy somehow (-1 economy).
Odd, pale men have landed in the Aztec peninsula (OTL Florida). They call themselves "Scotians" and seem to be led by one MacOrvall. They landed from a floating village, indeed much like the one that passed by the coast long ago, and like the one rumored amongst the hunters and barbarians less then a year ago. They did not act agressive at first, but later on, they did and they seized the capital of that province after some fighting with local militia - all of which was destroyed due to thee technological supremacy. The Scotians even have a few firearms!
Meanwhile, chaos reigns in the Mayan Empire. Chichen Itzan forces seize Copan, and the emperor surrenders his army altogether. At first, in Meztuchitlan, a resistance group had almost appeared... but the gods seem to favor the new Mayan Emperor (Flying Tiger), it would seem. The Severoslavian expedition leader (one Alexander Yaroslavovich) was not satisfied with establishing a small colony, instead, he moved to seize Meztuchitlan and its rumored treasures, which he did despite a brutal resistance campaign that cost him over 700 men. Mayan Empire is unified, though it lost the core of its northmost province.
(-1 Severoslavian battalion, -1 Copanese battalion, -entire pro-Copanese military)
The new Incan emperor sends forces into the Vakuchi territory along the coast. Resistance is ferocious, as the Vakuchi are expect at guerrila warfare and cause outrageous casualties while taking relatively small ones themselves. However, the arrival of Incan troops by sea manages to seize much of the coastline... Vakuchi chieftains return to their old campsite, somewhere in the jungles.
(-23 Incan battalions, -9 Vakuchi battalions)
In Britannia, work begun on expanding the Great Britannian Docks in Portsmouth.
Fennian expedition managed to establish an outpost in the south of Nordlund (Spitzbergen), but the islands are thought to be worthless, and many nobles believe it should be abandoned. The same is said about a similar Svenian expedition to an island north of Novobaltia, especially since its intruding on legitimate Baltian claims.
"Treachery" at Oran happens, as a Lombard-Croatian fleet, bolstered by Catholic volunteers, attempts to blockade one of the Berber harbors, expecting Visgoth and Cretan reinforcements and receiving none. They fight on valiantly, and defeat the conventional Berber fleet. However, the Berbers use various "diabolic" contraptions - like skullwalls, horrifying lumbering ironclad coastal vessels (only one of which was sunken after most severe bombardment), and fireships, small ships set aflame with Greek fire. The remainders of Lombard-Croatian fleet manages to escape, but barely.
(-11 Berber ships, -1 Berber skullwall, -9 Lombard ships, -5 Croatian ships)
Several European expeditions to Africa occur, establishing minor trade posts, but they're not very profitable - the only potential resource there is slaves, and, well, there is enough of them already. On the other hand, closer investigation might reveal something better...
Apart from Tzin Shu's rebellion (see random events), it would seem that somebody else is stirring up much trouble in the whole of Juang Empire. Luckily, they only get attention in China, but it would seem that the Kazakanese chieftains they tried to contact refused rather reluctantly (-1 culture, -1 confidence)...
N'Dranese garrisons let their guard down, and the city is fairly easily overran by Juang forces. However, the people there seem to be very unenthusiastic about it.
(-entire N'Dran military, -6 Juang battalions)
A most bizzare Japanese Civil War begun, as two emperors, having quite confused the Juang Chinese embassy, decided to start fighting each other... just as Tokugawa rebelled in the south against both emperors. Its the Hamamatsu Faction vs. the Edo Faction vs. the Tokugawa Faction. The Edo fleet has blockaded Tokugawa-held Kyushu, while Hamamatsu and Edo forces consolidate control over parts of the countryside and different regions.
In the Okinawa, a very large damage is done to the "Edo Faction" emperor's (Insane Panda) population support. His fleet blockades the island, cutting off the route for retreat for the colonists just as they face the Juang onslaught. With their backs to the sea, the colonists make a heroic last stand (tm), and though they are slaughtered almost to a man, rumors of this spread, thanks, in part, to the "Hamamatsu Faction" emperor (Erik). The people see it as an alliance with the hated Juang, and don't like it (-2 confidence for Edo).
(-5 Japanese colonist battalions, -7 Juang battalions)
Sinhalese expansion goes on pretty well everywhere...
Random Events:
As Fennian expedition to Nordland begun, led by Ikäpäivä, the confidence in Mielus "the Colonizer" rose (+1 confidence).
Baltia has a new leader - Henrich von Dunkelheit. Once a general in the Khazar Civil War, his popularity persuades more brave Tarunist warriors to join the Baltian army (+5 battalions).
Sinhala's Emperor, Ashoka, opens his palace to all people. For this, he is often called by historians as the "People's Emperor" (+1 confidence).
The Zulu use the superstitions (and simple fear of their huge army) of the nearby tribes to persuade them to join their Empire.
Infamous rebel Tzin Shu and a ragtag band of his followers reappeared in Southern China! They stirred up some trouble in the southern provinces...
A large band of Tarunist raiders, acting upon their own initiative...
(see spotlight - btw, maybe its not very random after all...)
Spotlight:
The Spark in Constantinople.
"No longer is the Byzantine League enough."
- Imperator Polius Mitrokratus of Trebzond, upon hearing of the raid on Constantinople. Year 1265 CE.
Ever since the Drevlijan and First Khazar Civil Wars, Baltia, a Tarunist nation, had a small Black Sea coast. Nevertheless, the Byzantine League nations, having never really fought Tarunists, did not think them to be a threat.
Until now.
Ever since the Avars sacked Constantinople, its magnificent defenses were in ruins. When Thracians begun to rebuild it, they neglected reconstructing the defenses, especially naval ones, not thinking there to be any threat at all, especially after the Byzantine League "punished" Polian forces "threatening" the city, not more then three decades ago. The Thracians had no real reason to worry indeed.
Until now.
It is still not known what really happened on April 10th 1265. Nevertheless, it was then that ten longboats brought ashore a fairly big amount of Tarunist zealot raiders - the Vikingr. Indeed, though many at first claimed them to be sent by Henrich von Dunkelheit, there was no evidence of this (apart from the fact that the port town of Odessa was constructed just alittle before the raids).
The Vikingr have landed in Constantinople itself - the guard was down, and so, they begun looting the city and burning down monasteries. The real damage was quite small - the Vikingr were soon stopped and slaughtered by the army and their path of retreat was cut off, but the moral damage was huge.
It was this occasion that allowed the Byzantine question - the question of unification - to be raised again, this time - by Trebzond. This time - by a power capable of uniting the Byzantines (excluding Crete).

We do not ask you to soon-to-be-reunited empire, but we ask you to support it. Surely you see the neccessity of a strong power in the region!
From: Lombardia, Croatia

Treachery! So many good Lombardian and Croatian - and Catholic volunteer! - men have died, while none of our so-called allies came to our aid! We might consider withdrawing from the anti-Berber coalition altogether...
From: Maliamese palace struggle faction
To: Sinhalese India
We fear the Juang threat. Should we come to power, will we be allowed to become an autonomous province in your great empire? If so, can you lend us some help?
OOC:
Disclaimer - the use of Alexander Nevskiy's name as the name of the Severoslavian expedition leader and adventurist is COMPLETELY accidental. Really it is.
erez, how would you feel about taking over the Mayan Empire? Its fairly strong now, and fairly neutral. You WILL have to deal with Severoslavian expedition, though. On the other hand... Incans are rather neutral as well. And are they powerful or what?!
Sorry if I forgot anything. Also, conehead, sorry, but you posted that too late. Please, repost the orders, and if you ordered a project it will have a bonus turn.
