NES2 II: Age of Discovery

I have just received word that Alaska was also colonized by Japan.

Me? Little or no grudge? You mean everybody else will hate it? Well, POST AWAY ALREADY!!! YOU'RE A MOD!!!!!

Please post it. :(

I promise I won't complain - I don't know about the others. :p

As for the pope i had him under close guard, i basicly wished to setup a puppet pope and was well on my way to controlling him.

You were not. If you tried to control me any more than you were, I'd excommunicate you. So there! Nyah!

Oh, TSA is much better off then forecast. But Hellfish will kill me for sure. ;)

Historia Futurum: Age of Inventions, 1315-1415.

During this period, many great inventions were made. In 1320, Oran ha-Derevli discovered the steam engine for Khazaria. One year later, the Sinhalese Abanupaya did the same for Sinhalese India. And two years from there, the Alexandrine scientist Telomon would follow them up. Technology spread, and the Sinhalese in 1324 became the first to build an efficient steamship, the Indir. The Japanese were lagging behind at first, but by 1335, they would build the first steam-powered ironclad.

But it wasn't all about steam back then. Circa 1331, the Chinese and the Sinhalese almost simultaneously created the factory system or at least its prototypes. The Khazars advanced their armored chariots to the next level: armored artillery chariots. Europe was, in the meantime, becoming increasingly backwater tech-wise (Khazaria excluded). And no wonder - it was being devastated at the time by costly religious wars... The Western Continents (the Atlantis and the Empire) were, interestingly enough, more strong technology-wise. Britannia and Khazaria assisted the Messippians who soon became a very advanced nation as well, but the TSA was advancing quickly as well - especially in the field of firearms. The Incans were cunningly sending "merchants" that stole many technologic secrets, from the Alexandrines especially. Humanitarian ideals begun to florish late in the period. Two dominant ideologies for many centuries begun to emerge back then - nationalism (the idea of nation-state, and so on. It was in its "proto-" stages, and would become dominant in Europe.) and imperialism (the idea of a multiethnic huge empire, and would be come dominant in most places outside of Europe).

In Atlantis, this was an age of turmoil. After the fall of Tarunism in Europe, Lombardia and Visgothia turned their eyes towards Atlantis. A joint expedition was sent to TSA in 1320. As of 1322, it regained most of the Visgoth and Lombard colonies, and requested that the TSA acknowledge this. Kushana refused, and the war went on. The Atlanteans ultimately won in 1324 at Fort Palmenke (though Kushana died in the battle), and persuaded the Lombards and Visgoths to give up their colonies in Atlantis to TSA, now officially. Tarunism in TSA will survive. TSA at the time also fought several wars with Messippia. The iron disciplinne installed first by Kushana and later by Voitto II resulted in significant early victories and the gain of some borderlands. Later, though, the Messippians turned the tables with the Khazar armored artillery and other advances, and would retake Michigan, thus blocking future TSA advances. By then, though, the TSA would realize that westward expansion would be essentially useless, and chose to concentrate on northern expansion, at the Britannian expense. By 1380, the Hadrumetia was firmly in TSA hands, just as was the Carribbean sea. Thus the European efforts to colonize America were in vain if one doesn't count TSA. Lombards lost their Panama colony to the Incans in 1319, the Severoslavians were too weak to hold on to their Mexican colony and left by 1350. However, when Europeans fail, Asia comes in. After the Fall of Sabah, most of Sabahese Pacific colonies were annexed by the Japanese. This provided an excellent base for foundation of Shewato (OTL San Francisco) in 1324. Slowly, but surely, towards 1415 the Japanese controlled the coastal area from Sonora (that is, Tayoka) to Alaska (that is, Tekkaido). Ventures inland were harder, as they faced the growing power of Lakota Federation.

The Incans were peacefully prospering, with only a minor rebellion by the Chibchu in 1356. They were consolidating their holdings and expanded further into the Amazon Basin.

Europe. 1316 was to be the Year of Gaettermendrung. The joined Christian and Itzhakist forces devoured Baltia, with most of it annexed by Khazaria, while Fennia was decimated by a determined Britannian-Visgothian attack. Svenians faced the Britannians, Lombards, Visgoths, Severoslavians and Croatians late in the year in the final battle of European Tarunism. The battle was harsh, long and brutal, as the Christian forces assaulted the fortified Svenian positions around their capital. Many died in the battle, nobody surrendered, but the battle was a Christian victory. What followed was many centuries of repression. The first few decades were especially brutal - everything even distantly Tarunist was destroyed, everybody who spoke favorably of them was killed. Tarunists, both real and suspected, were burned at the stake. Tarunism was succesfully being stomped out, and unexpectedly, Khazaria became the safest refuge for a Tarunist - apart from TSA which many called a traitor.

But by no means did Europe become peaceful after Tarunism. Arlusian War has begun, as Arlus IV laid claim on South Svenia. He allied with Croatia and Polia, and scored several unexpected victories over the Britannian allies in Severoslavia. He also managed to land in South Svenia, but soon lost the naval battle at Goteborg and was cut off. In the wilderness of Scandinavia, he advanced across Svenia and miracilously won the Battle at Stockholm against Britannia. But it was not enough. As of 1319, the Visgoths and Lombards advanced deep into Burgundia, Severoslavians recovered and invaded Polia, while Croatians were barely fighting off the Lombards. The Byzantine entry into the war caused Polia and Croatia to drop out of it, and when in 1320 Arlus IV lost much of his army at Oslo, the war was over. Arlus IV abdicated, Armorica and claims on South Svenia were abandoned to Britannia, while Lombards, Severoslavians and Visgoths took back the lands they lost to Arlus the Great. Polia lost Transdanubia to the Byzantines and bits of conquered Baltian land to Severoslavia, Croatia lost Zara to the Lombards and Yugonia (tiny province in SE) to Byzantines. Burgundia was checked.

After it, followed seemingly-pointless wars between Arianists and Catholics. Neither side triumphed (Catholics almost did, but were always reversed by the Byzantine and Alexandrine entry on Arianist behalf to restore the balance of power), no territory was exchanged, but many borderlands were devastated. One thing did come out of it, as the current border in Berberia was recognized as the official one. That was the way Europe lived on during the period. There were also border wars between Britannia and Khazaria over Marska, the Baltian capital. Ultimately, Khazaria won.

In Africa, the Zulu Empire was beginning to stagnate, both technologically and politically. Expansion virtually stopped and the empire was filled with unrest. Nevertheless, its rulers kept the empire somewhat intact for now. The Alexandrines, in the meantime, continued to gobble up West Africa. They, however, ran into siginificant resistance... especially due to the warrior-culture of Timbuktu emerging in circa 1364. Alexandrines, all in all, were fairly advanced and prospering, in aprt due to Atlantic trade, and also had a boost in prestige due to Xenokratis finishing in 1320 his famous journey around all of the world. However, the pre-Sinai Rebellion borders with Judea were restored (plus some more gains, but Alexandria was not taken due to the victory on the Nile), which was not only humiliating but strategically dangerous as well.

The Byzantines somewhat recovered from their defeat, and capitalized on their control of the Straits to bolster their economy. Judea experienced a revival under David VII in 1349-1401 - he modernized Judean army, made it a naval power as well and started a cultural golden age. A brief Crusade against Judea was waged at some point, but it was fought back with ease at Haifa. Persia lived through a series of religious wars that allowed the Byzantines to regain Sinope and some other territory around it.

Sinhala was reduced, but the gold gained from the sale proved a greater threat: inflation. Despite the technologic advancements, this started a mini-dark age for Sinhala. It was not as bad as it could have been, but it was damaging, and caused the decline of the Sinhalese Empire. It did hold on to its remaining colonies, but the Commonwealth was dead. Killed by Shashlyk-Khan in circa 1320. Instead of it appeared a new Central Asian Empire, the Turkic Horde that spread from Tibet-Nepal to Kazakan. The Turkic Horde would start numerous raids, primarily against Sinhala, but it was not until Tamarlyn-Khan in 1411 took power that it trully revealed its potential...

The rest of Asia was fairly peaceful, all nations involved prospered apart from Sabah which was devoured by China. But in 1360... the Black Army struck again. Landing in Korea, it ravaged its eastern coast and burned down Pusan. Nevertheless, it later left and Korea was preserved. It would be interesting to note that in early 15th Century, the Black Army would also land in Sinhalese Kangappura, plunder it, and leave. It would also, throughout the period, start minor raids against: Japan, China, Sinhala, Korea, Java, Incan Empire and Byzantine Kangappura. ;) Japan would in the meantime emerge to be a naval superpower, defeating a half-hearted Korean attempt to reconquer Kyushu in 1359.

You forgot the war against alesandrines by the jewish forces... Did it just didn't hapapned in sudden move?

I demand to know who sent Juankorum the supplies!!!

Yeah, I was starting to figure you wouldn't let me have my part of Svenia Hellfish - but I wouldn't have gone further then not following your parts and whining about it - which might have got me invaded like you said.

I was either going to invade Southern Svenia by myself and pillage their towns - but with their navy still at large and the easy targets of Baltian cities, fighting my way eastward sounded like a better idea. In the long term without the grace of Britannia Arlus the IV was contemplating rebuilding his navy with a subsequent war against the TSA to grab hold of some of their heartlands.

Oh that - :(
With a good war going against Britannia I think I might've pitched in with a 50 ship navy and landing on an uncontested front. :)
Might've been a disaster I must admit, but it had it's prospects I think.

*Sigh*
I hope Burgundia climbs out of that mess and unites France. New King! We need a new glorious isolationist King like Arlus the III only slightly expansionist. Sniffle, my poor country.
Or maybe the new king would have concentrated on getting ahead in commerce and technology unlike Arlus the IV?

nice, but im sure everyone is dying to learn just how magnificent korea is by this point :mischief:

I think I'll post a map.

As for Juankorum. Java did. They had a mentally unstable king who decided that Juankorum holding out would have frustrated Sinhala for some reason.

Castle Palmenke is a different fort altogether.
