Conclusion of my last Story

Because you all care so much about Canadian democratic politics. :p

The winter elections were technically difficult. A cold snap and terrible weather had buckled out the railroads to the west, and it took weeks to get the votes in from the more remote regions.

Most political prognosticators had predicted a People's Party victory, but none had expected one at such a huge margin.

Van der Laaden's party was elected with an incredible 79% of the vote. The Liberty party's platform simply could not stand up to the excellent and consistent results of the People's government over the last few years since Canada's independence.

The Liberty party ended up with only 15% support, far lower than had been expected and hoped for. In the wake of the political 'disaster', the whole party's leadership was once again overhauled. The awarding of Official Opposition status to the Liberty Party was little reconciliation.

The Freedom Party received only 4% of the votes, decimated by vote-splitting and strategic voting by its supporters (in retrospect, quite unnecessary). It only managed to retain official party status due to a clarification of one electoral law, lowering the number of votes needed by a party to receive official party recognition*.

The remaining 2% went to various minor fringe parties, ranging from Egalitist idealists to Theocrats and Monarchists.

The results of this landslide victory were immediately obvious. The People's Party were now rather unhindered in their goals, which could now all be passed (assuming party solidarity). For the most part, Van der Laaden's 'Business as Usual' went on. However, the small opposition remained vocal, assuring Canadians that their democracy was by no means in threat of becoming single-party.

In the mean time, the People's Party policies from earlier years began to pay off. Canada was beginning its economic rise at last.

*Presumably because the People's Party wanted a divided opposition, and wanted an ally for further support in the future.

Keep up the good work, when I originally rebelled as Finland, I didn't expect it end up so well. Even if it once got overrun by Russians. :) ;)

We do not agree to this. The Islamic Caliphate has barely contributed at all to the war effort.

It is our intention that the Byzantine Empire be absorbed by the Holy Roman Empire. This includes Greece and Anatolia. We shall not allow a nation which has thusfar contributed but a slight amount to dictate to us what the terms will or will not be and we shall divide the Byzantine Empire as we see fit.

Excuse us for the insult, as we were only putting forward a proposal.

Arrgh, of course you people couldnt create a Ukraine state :p

I'll continue to lurk for nows.

OOC: Symphony, i had a rebel movement in your country:cry: And my movements were to get a nation, not to bring down the HRE. In fact i have continually complimented you guys. You're generalizations are insulting and unwarranted.

BTW, Panda and Symph, whats the situation with Badawistan?

From: The Islamic Caliphate
To: Badawistan

For a long train of abuses and illegal usurpations of power, the Islamic Caliphate declares war on Badawistan, in solidarity with our Persian brothers. May Allah see the liberation of a fair land, and may Arabia be enthroned anew as it is restored to glory by a rightly guided Caliph and Shah. Caliph Hassan promises amnesty to all who abandon the hopeless cause of the traitors, and requests that the government of Badawistan surrender unconditionally.

PEACE AT HOME, MOBILIZATION ENDS
by Charles Depuy

The Emperor (center) with de Terrailon and Dumouriez (to his left and right, respectively)

PARIS -- Today, in his first public announcement in almost a year, Emperor Valerien has declared "the beginning of the end" of the Second Great War. All around Europe, there is much proof that a turning point has been reached. Byzantine forces have been crushed, and both the Russian and Byzantine fleets have been left at the bottom of the world's oceans. Furthermore, with the unconditional surrender of the Provisional Russian Government headed by Chancellor Panin, the central conflict of the war is set to close, though analysts are especially unsure of this, due to the fact that conservative factions, lead by the notorious Suvorov, still maintain control of large portions of the army. The effectiveness of any Russian attempt at continuing the war is likely to suffer, however, as populist revolt consumes the countryside and active protest of the war grips the country. The Byzantine Empire, meanwhile, is similarly, if not moreso, on the verge of collapsing, with Allied forces occupying huge swaths of Greece and with the guns of Imperial warships hammering the port of Constantinople.

At home, too, have conditions begun to improve. The Emperor declared, in his public announcement, the "effective end of war-time economic pressures", and indeed, such an announcement was followed up by the closure of the ration store-houses, and the end of the rationing system for crucial materiel. Oncemore, the markets and homes of Europe are fully stocked, and already there is a noted increase in standard of living indexes, as consumers begin to spend more money instead of saving, was was the common practice for much of the war. Meanwhile, the Imperial Reserve has declared an end to its cyclical raising of interest rates to combat war-time inflation. This move, combined with overall increased confidence in the Empire's institutions, has lead to a rallying of Europe's markets and exchanges. Yet though rationing has ended, the government continues to maintain more control over the Economy than before the war, and much is still centralized under its authority, as this is all part of the "Dirigisme" reform. Industry, aswell, continues to develop, as more and more factories are built throughout Europe. The War, it seems, has stimulated the economy, and chief economists believe that the Empire is headed in the right direction, especially with new competition from the EUA and especially the Greater East Asian Republic. In the face of such competition, the Emperor also announced the beginning of a new economic and public works project as a "re-assesment and expansion of our economy" in order to "re-establish Europe at the forefront."

But Confidence in money is not the only bright sign, as in their attitudes, people began to display increased optimism. His Majesty's public declaration was especially soothing to the ears of Europe, ears which have, for the past few years, heard only news of despair. For the past year or so, the Emperor had vanished from the Public eye. His usual annoucements and speeches were given, yet they were no longer spoken to the Senate, but instead addressed through speeches, and read by de Terrailon. This has lead to the belief by conspiracists that the Emperor was infact dead, yet such beliefs never held much credence - and it was deemed essential to many in the government that the Emperor did hide himself for the better part of a year, as assasination attempts became more and more frequent. It would not be wrong to say, many believe, that the death of the Emperor would be an immense blow to the Empire, especially with the murder of much of the Imperial family. Some, however, have claimed that the Emperor's actions were cowardly - to this the Emperor has not responded, and rightly so, for it is not in the practice of a Monarch to stoop to the level of muckrackers, but de Terrailon, ever the fiery Premier, has lauded the Emperor's return whilst lashing out at those who denegrate him.

It looks like the hardest years have since passed. Europe, now, is on the road to recovery and further still, it is on the road to renewed majesty.

Final Statement

"
There are those who would critize the start of this war, the fighting of this war, and the end of this war. There are those who could call us fools simply for attempting to prevent the guranteed. But I stand here today to say I care not for neither either their words or thoughts. I regret not making war nor shall I regret ending it.

This war was fought in the name of brotherhood, and with the dissolution of our previous held alliances, this war has become uncessesary in every form. Neither our Southern allies or our western friends exist in their origional state at this point. It would be pointless to carry on a war that we have no purpose fighting.

Too many livess have already been lost- it would be a travesity to allow any more. It appears that it is not in Allah's wishes for our state to have won this war, and as such, I offically declare it over. I ask that all fighting men lay down their arms and return peacefully to their pre-war jobs. More fighting shall only result in more death and destruction, a bad omen for our people.

With this final statement I shall announce the dissalvoment of the state of Segu. May Allah go with you and may peace once more return to this land."-Koro Tambalil before departure.[/i]

OOC: I have my reasons.......

@das its the Maratha Confederacy not Marathi. Marathi sounds so feminine.
Marathi is like shriveled hairless bollocks, while Maratha is like big hairy bollocks. Maratha is so much more masculine and worthy of a warrior people.

And the forces of blue and dark red conquered the world. teh g@m3 is 0v3r
