NESCraft II Day Three
Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp,
Dare its deadly terrors clasp!
When the stars threw down their spears
And water'd heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?
Tyger Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

As the sun rises, you strike out northwards, making for the glistening waters of the lake on the horizon. Along the way you are ambushed by giant scorpions who unlike their smaller brethren, seem to operate in packs. You feel you are very lucky (karma) and they do not press the attack when you flee. Arriving at the lake you notice that the large turtles are not pleased by your presence and take to the water, emerging on the far bank where they may feel safe from your presence. You forage in the tall grass and along the shore of the lake and manage to fill your belly with bugs and what turns out to be relatively delicious small black berries growing on small shrubs. The sun sets and you turn your mind to meditation, feeling a deep connection with the spirit world and gaining new insights into the forces of life all around you.
The sun rises and you are physically tired but spiritually fulfilled.

Those goats sure look good. But first, you need a way of hunting them effectively. Your spear is promising but you are inspired and decide to build an atlatl to give it range and power. First you craft yourself some rudimentary stone tools and using these, turn to shaping a promising stick into an atlatl, giving it a slight curve and two large holes for your fingers.
As the sun sets, your natural aptitude for animals and hunting serves you well. You set out to hunt and on your first throw drive your spear deep into the shoulder of a young male. Your crude spear doesn't survive the experience but the kill is clean. You eat its meat raw and and have enough for tomorrow also. Skinning the animal with your stone tools, you are able to harvest its skin, though it will soon rot and fall apart without some sort of processing.

J.K. Stockholme
Tired from not sleeping, you none-the-less press on, starting your day with yesterday's salmon for breakfast. Despite the fire, the cold wind is harsh and you set about to build yourself some protection, first building some stone tools and then using these to cut tall grass and weaving it crudely, make a grass blanket. Exhausted to the point of collapse, you wrap yourself in your blanket, pile more sticks on the fire, and fall asleep.
As the morning rises you are no longer 'chilly', at least for now.

Morning comes and your growling stomach makes itself known relentlessly. The sheep remain in the vicinity and this offers an opportunity and so you set out to hunt them. You crawl as close as you can, hiding in the tall grass and behind the trees, trying to stay upwind and finally launch your spear. The throw is of slightly off but none-the-less strikes the target, spiking the animal by its foot to the frozen ground. As it bleat in terror and pain you run up to it and smash its head in with a rock.
You skin the wooly hide and despite the fat and blood on it, wrap yourself in its warmth. Full and finally a little warmer, you gather your kill around you and have a fitful sleep, all too aware that the scent of blood and the fresh kill has attracted the attention of predators and scavengers.
Your hide will have to be processed in some way or it will rot and fall apart very shortly. With the raw sheep hide to insulate you, you avoid slipping from chilly to cold, at least for now.

It takes some time but you are able to find some grasses and seaweed which when woven together, form a sturdy and 'springy' enough string to use as a sling. During the process you manage to break several stone needles and realize your tools are unlikely to last you much longer. You practice throwing some stones with the thing and while it takes some getting used to, finally manage to reliably strike a target at range with some precision.
As night falls, you follow the example of the ever-present meerkats and forage for termites in the nearby mounds, finding enough insects and grubs to fill your stomach.
Morning rises and you realize you have have spent the whole night foraging and have not yet slept. The sun is blistering and you will need to find appropriate shelter today or risk heat exhaustion.

Quite suddenly, you
are. The sun is hot and the ground is hard and dry. The wind is even warm. Zebras graze nearby and do not seem to take much notice of you. Further afield a half-dozen giraffes drink at a muddy stream and you can see alligators swimming lazily towards them. Further large primates, large painted bears, ducks, and deer speak to the diversity of life in the area.
A towering mountain ranges rises in the north-east.

Marcher Jovian
First you need some sort of way to defend yourself and looking around see enough stone and branches to craft a rudimentary ax. The ax isn't pretty or particularly sharp but you feel will serve you well enough in the short term. Munching on left-over vegtables from yesterday's forage, your turn your attention to your wound, crafting bandages from reeds and grass and these bring an almost magical sense of relief as the pain washes away. You find yourself with some left-over bandages and tuck them away for later, just in case.
Full, finally armed, and with your wound's pain receding, you notice the sun setting in the west behind a forest separated from you by a strip of sea and give yourself to sleep.

The tiger does not seem to want to leave and you are adamant that its cave will be yours, and so, you pick up a large femur from the muskox skeleton and 'craft' a bone club. As you step out from behind the fire the tiger immediately lunges, low and left, intent on grabbing your leg. Your warrior instincts kick in and you spin right, bringing the club down violently on its head so you do. You hear a satisfying crunch as its left eye seems to explode and the orbital cavity around it caves in. The femur shatters from the blow and you are left holding a small shiv of bone. It howls in rage and pain and turns to flee, the battle already over in seconds but again your warrior instinct kicks in and your lunge, this time catching it in the hip with the bone splinter. It lopes off into the tall grass, badly limping.
Victorious, you are not keen to share your kill with others and set out after it, shivering in the cold and wind. Less than half a mile away, you find its body in a shallow snow-filled canyon. You try to skin it with your stone tools but botch the job thoroughly, badly damaging the skin and rendering it useless except as a pile of fluff and fur. The meat you do a better job of, and bringing it back to your cave, cook its flesh over the fire you build up with sticks and grass from nearby.
By the time you have botched the skinning and preparation of the hide, and returned with the meat of the beast, which while horrible, promises to feed you for several days, the sun is already coming up.
Near your cave and the fire, the cold of the area doesn't seem so bad and you are no longer 'chilly' or 'cold'.

You pick up some stone and select the best for your purposes, chipping and flaking them until you have a knife and assorted tools you feel might be useful to you. Then, focusing on the eastern coast, you head out, foraging on veggies and berries you find along the way (even finding enough for your breakfast tomorrow). Arriving at the coast, where wild horses prance and graze nearby, you pay homage to the rising sun, and working through the night, make an arch of stone at the sea's edge. When the sun finally does rise, your work is done and you are happy to see the sun's rays shining through your arch.
