I thought the update was posted??!? But its just someone spamming the thread. Damn :p

:splat:

Surprise update incoming!!! Its from the 'just get it done' school of updating, so don't expect much fanfare after all the wait. I will be grateful if anyone is still interested in this.

Link to video.

Expressing unwavering interest in this NES. :p

Extremely interested, still.

Still very interested.

Thankyou ^^ Its all done, I'm just cutting up the map into the visible chunks that can be shown in the update. Taking longer than usual because I previously used a simpler paint program...

General interest post.

Day 5

~ Pandaholme ~

Spoiler :
w4MbQLR.png

Immaculate: morning is well-spent keeping the roof on your house and repairing leaks. As the storm passes, you have a busy afternoon tending your plots, which have had a good watering. At night you see a strange blue glow in the south east, something you have not noticed before. You end the day hungry, though you rest well. You awake with 4AP. Thanks to your green fingers, you now have two garden plots ready for harvest at 1AP each using the hoe. Forest deer have been nibbling at some of the green veg, you scare them away at dawn. Still, you guess each plot will yield one or two day's worth of vegetable food, perhaps even more. You feel you should harvest within the next day or two to avoid spoilage.

Lord of Elves: you struggle to keep building your dwelling as the storm passes over. It proves impossible, and you are forced to take what little shelter you can. As the storm clears, you build a stone-tipped spear. Weapons in hand, you venture out in the direction of the mysterious person you had seen yesterday. But by now night is falling, and you get lost in the undergrowth, frightened by animal noises all around you. At dawn you find yourself on a hillside, with a man-made hut visible in the west – definitely not your own, which still lies half-built. You are very hungry, storm-battered and tired. You have 2AP.

North King: you spend the day wandering around, foraging for food as you go. Something keeps drawing you towards the north-west. You find no fires, but as night falls you pass a cave that glows with an eerie blue light. You do not dare enter at first; you find a sheltered spot nearby and rest. At dawn, you find yourself on a hill. In the near distance is a hut, surrounded by well-tended vegetable gardens, and a stockily-built human male chasing away some deer. You have 3AP.

Seon: You spend a day following Orangutans, seeing what they eat: fruit, insects, more fruit, more insects. They gradually move south-east. The orangs also find some parrot eggs, but do not share these. You rest with them in the trees at night, and recover from your poisoning. You awake with 3AP. Only one orang is nearby. A cool sea breeze refreshes your face; from the treetop, you can see a sparkling sea to the south.

You finish construction of a sturdy stone dwelling. You find a couple more fish to eat today, just enough to keep you going. You sense it may be wise to try a different fishing spot in future. While you are gone, something steals your fish stash from yesterday. But you have a comfortable night in your new shelter. You awake with 4AP.

Merciary and Lord Herobrine:

PY1rS4V.png

While Merciary builds an axe and chops up some wood, Herobrine finds some apples to munch on. In the afternoon Merciary goes hunting for boar. Again the hunt is long and difficult, this time with a detour to avoid angry Giant Moose, but he skewers a young boar just before night falls. There has not been enough time for Herobrine to finish building a wooden dwelling (1 more AP needed), but you are comfortable enough with animal skins and a warm fire. Again, the pair of you eat well and rest well, awaking with 4AP each, and Herobrine is fully healed. You heard wolves howling in the distant night, but they did not approach. You have grown quite fond of each other, and Merciary is especially charmed by Herobrine.

Note: together you now have spare food: 1x Apples (moderately filling), 1x Boar Meat (very filling), resources: 1x Bones, 1x Lumber, 1x Boar Skin, 1x Deer Skin, and items: 1x Backpack (Merc), 1x Stone Tools (Hero), 2x Stone Spears (1 each), 1x Stone Axe (Merc), 1x Fishbone Ornament (Merc). The backpack can hold two large items (food rations, lumber etc) and numerous smaller ones (tools, ornaments etc).

Optical and Nintz

MLQJlHT.png

Desperation sets in as you set out to hunt a sheep on another bitterly-cold morning. Unfortunately, the hunt drags on, and it takes all of your collective effort to corner and catch one of the poor animals. Nintz collapses with exhaustion as you attempt to drag the kill back to the cave. With night drawing in, bitterly cold wind assaulting you, and wolves howling nearby, Optical sees no choice but to abandon Nintz and drag the sheep carcass on to the cave; it is impossible to take both. Optical eats and survives, Nintz is left to the wolves.

Optical awakes with 2AP, to a mind and body still racked by recent ordeals. He now has 1x Wool Blanket, 1x Meat (leftovers), 1x Bones, 1x String (sinew), 2x Small Traps (unset), and a Stone Spear.

Nintz has become a Ghost.

By dawn's light, you visit the shore to choose some pebbles. You carve them to become your runestones for divination. The spiritual forces are restless, seeking new balance. You are only advised, if you seek safety, to be ready to travel across water... After the morning's meditation, you go hunting for rabbit meat. The fox only appears again when you are cooking – one meagre rabbit, that you managed to catch after exhausting work. Nonetheless, you share a morsel with the fox. All day you have noticed smoke rising from the mountaintop, and felt a slight rumbling from deep in the earth. You sleep slightly uneasily. You awake with 3AP. You have: 1x Goatskin, 1x Runestones, 1x Stone Tools, 1x Stone Spear.

tuxedohamm and Angst

52jbrat.png

Despite being heavily pregnant and ravenously hungry, tuxedohamm manages to craft herself a gardening hoe. The rest of her plans for today are cut short by the onset of labour, life developing magically fast within her. Angst meanwhile made several trips to return with vegetables and mushrooms, but none of it seems enough. As night draws in, a freezing wind forcing you to huddle by the fire, tuxedohamm gives birth to a perfect baby boy. Without quite enough food, her body has sacrificed itself to nurture new life. She is left very weak, with just 1AP, sustained by Spiritual forces. Angst has 3AP. Your worldly possessions are: 1x Hoe, 1x Ornamental Stone Tools. The newborn will need close nurturing from its mother over the next day.

Patchy and Vertinari118

KsZPk3Y.png

With the pair of you foraging together, and seeming to enjoy each other's company, you feel much safer and are able to pick out more bites to eat. Venturing west, you fill up on seeds, grubs and shellfish; and as a lucky break, you disturb a giant pelican's nest near the riverbank, feeding greedily on the juicy eggs, before the parents rally and drive you away with large pointy beaks – having already eaten well, you decline to battle on this occasion. You return to your camp and share the blanket as night falls. Both of you awake with 3AP, though Vertinari is feeling the effects of sunburn. If you are to forage again, you sense it may be wise to go in another direction this time, or go further afield, to get fresh pickings.

With a newly-crafted stone spear, you are on the hunt for deer today. Initially it seems luck has deserted you, as you trip and sprain your ankle, while deer scatter into the distance. However, as you begin to forage, your Luck returns; you spot an elderly, poorly deer and are able to bring it down with a swift spear throw. You eat your fill and rest content, keeping leftover meat at your side. You awake with 3AP. You now have 1x Deer Meat (leftovers), 1x Deer Hide, 1x Linen, 1x Antlers, 1x Bone, 1x Stone Tools, 1x Stone Spear.

J.K. Stockholme

QQAC6CH.png

Wary jackals keep their distance from you, but you have success hunting lizards with your mysterious rabbit friend acting as a distraction. It is however exhausting work under the hot sun, and all for a rather unpleasant reward. You do end up with lizard skin that could be made into a belt or some such item, but is only marginally useful as a blanket. In the evening you shelter in some shrubs, harassed by insects. You awake with 2AP, still a little hungry, sore and feeling worn down by recent hardships. At least you have some shade today, as heavy clouds are passing over from the south-west. Perhaps the remnant of a storm?

MoreEpicThanYou

6jEi8kD.png

You are on the hunt for easy prey. None is to be found; only swift horses, bears, wolf packs and giant horned beasts roam the plains. You trek far to the west, foraging some seeds and vegetables as you go. You rest in the shelter of a tree, but the night is painfully cold against your skin. You awake with 2AP. Dawn reveals you are close to a large mountain, a chilly breeze blows from this direction. The mountain where you first appeared in the world now lies far away in the east, looming large on the otherwise flat horizon. Broken forest lies all around, clearing to grassland and what may be a river in the south.

You attempt to hunt the large horned beast you have seen at the edge of the jungle. You attempt to distract it by throwing rocks, but this only seems to anger the beast. Closing in, you throw your spear and strike a blow, but this only seems to anger the beast further; it is a mass of muscle, hide and fat, enough meat to feed a whole tribe, but right now all of that muscle is directed at you. The beast charges you down, headbutts you and tramples you repeatedly. You drag yourself to the trees to recover, but your body is broken. At dawn, you find yourself drifting free of your pain-wracked mortal shell, leaving it to be pecked over by vultures. You have become a Ghost.

Unfortunately, your day of hunting gazelle turns into a day of running from various predators, including but not limited to a pack of giant hyena. You end the day far to the south-east, still close to the river. You find a tree to sleep in, but awake hungry, exhausted, covered in insect bites and sunburt. You have 2AP.

Thlayi

IHetPhF.png

You take the first steps towards your plans. Traps are laid for small animals. A fire is lit inside the cave, which thus far appears to be empty. A brief exploration has not revealed where the cave ends, it curves onwards into absolute darkness. Despite the shelter and the fire, you are still quite cold as you try to sleep, breezes blowing through the cave. Strange animal calls echo from the mountainsides outside. You awake with 3AP, but rather hungry, cold, and not especially well rested. Whatever your traps may have caught, it appears to have been taken by other predators. Giant eagles seem to be nesting nearby; bones lie strewn about the slopes above you.

Now – Day 6 Begins

Human life has disturbed the balance of forces in this world... I want to shake things up a bit and give all of the deceased players (those who died in-game) a choice – to remain as ghosts awaiting reincarnation, or respawn immediately as supernatural beings and become protagonists:

*Beastmen/Beastwomen are burned by daylight. They are creatures of the night. They will require human blood to strengthen themselves, otherwise they will gradually weaken and eventually die. They cannot craft items, but can pick up those made by humans. Beastform can be given up when a player nears the top of the reincarnation list again, and they can become a human once more. Otherwise, if beastmen/women die they will move to the bottom of the reincarnation waiting list again, and will be stuck as simple ghosts during that time, so the choice is yours!

I will post a mini-update for anyone choosing this option, so you know where you stand for initial orders.

People opposed to this idea, please express yourself and let me know...

* Making babies: I want to make clear that female characters will not be impregnated against their will in-game, but it could be against the player's will ;) In fact, anyone can attempt to seduce another player in-game. This may be a whole AP action. The chances are raised by spending time together, being healthy (well fed and rested), by using Spiritual allure, and/or by being Charming.

Regarding all of the above, I will be accepting PM orders/questions if needs be ^^

* I have not spawned any new players this turn. I decided not to, for the sake of actually updating. This turn started with 20 live human players. However...

* Incarnating as tuxedohamm's child: out of anyone who is interested, this will go to whoever is highest in the waiting list (see front page). The child is male and has inherited the Spiritual trait from its mother, but you will be free to pick a second trait of your own choosing. For the first turn the child is a helpless baby and cannot do anything yet :)

Yay, great update!

@Lord Herobrine: I think we need to start farming soon, I've killed most of the things near us that won't murder me.
