NESLife attempt #3

Another great update, I pity my Land Quintupler on the Agonia die out i was going to evolve them this turn. Oh well!

Spoiler :

Sextupler: c&cciv3
Evolved from: Pentupler
Genes (25): Crawling x2, Plant Eating x2, Flesh Eating x2, Complex Stomach x2, Claws x3, Cold Resistance x1, Communal Behaviour x2, Brain Power x2, Eyes x1 Skeleton x1, Tough Skin x1, Water Retention x3, Tough Eggs x1, Parenting Instinct x1, Pack Hunting x1
Description: Since the first Quintupler and it's descendants came on to land they found it harder to catch meat an in the seas (With most other land animals being able to run/fly away or having better develop lungs an them to out crawl them). The strategy the Land Quintupler use was to have one or two of them trying ambush prey and when take it back to the herd but now the Sextupler got a new way to catch prey. By using their “smart” brains they have developed group tactics against prey. Prey now got to deal with groups of 5 to 8 Sextupler it once. The Pentupler while being very social creature's didn't play much care over there eggs after they have been lad. But Sextupler found that by guarding there eggs more of there offspring survive to adulthood.

Become:

Hextupler: c&cciv3

Evolved from: Sextupler
New Genes(2): Walking +1, Lung's +1
Gene removed (optional, max 2):
Description: After the last age Sextupler was not doing very well but it has survive! There main problems was that the increasing size to the desert in the heart to the Caliburnia continent and the amount of time taking going between feeding sites! The desert in past age's main problem was it's dryness but now the heat as become unbearable as well. Now the new Hextupler can deal with it new Temperature Resistance skin. It's Temperature Resistance skin allows resist the heat of the desert in the day as well as cold at night. It also develop a way to rise it's body higher off the ground change the way it's move. It now less of a Crawling motion and of a walking motion now which allows it to travel distances quickier.

Note: If you can't have “Temperature Resistance” which does both hot and cold resistance (possibly not as well the two individuals resistances) then change it to Heat Resistance and i will keep Cold Resistance as well.

Edit: changed genes after hearing what Daft has to say.

Temperature resistance for complex lifeforms is a kind of dumb idea. It's like saying "Hey, Polar Bears and Penguins can survive on Aruba, because they both have water retention and temperature tolerance.

I think it should be one or the other, though I really don't see how they overlap. It's not like having both plant eating and meat eating, which makes sense.

Not true. I'm not biologist, but i know that Palm trees do better in Florida than in the Yukon. But i also know that for some reason Evergreens do better in both.

There is obviously some evolutionary precedent, and plus it seems natural since they already survived a bunch of extremes for them to develop some mechanism for future survival.

The same conifers that exist in say, California, are different than the ones in the Yukon. In this game, they would be closely related, but not the same species. One might have evolved cold resistance (Yukon), the other might have evolved large size (Cali), while not specializing for northern climactic and soil conditions.

Yeah i think 'temperature resistance' would be unfair, i would have to count that just as 'heat resistance'.

Though, im now a bit confused myself about 'heat resistance' as opposed to 'water retention', especially for plants. I can see a need for plants to evolve resistance against being damaged by freezing temperatures (cold resistance), but do plants really need any 'heat resistance'? IE can plants actually be hurt by high temperatures, except for drying out faster?

For simple animals too, would they actually take any damage from the hottest desert temperatures?

Now I'm thinking that 'heat resistance' should only be for A: sea creatures living near the deep sea volcanic vents (very hot), or B: complex/high metabolism/warm-blooded land animals (ones with lots of stats, and lungs) that live in hot places, and actually need to keep their body temperature below a certain level. Or maybe those are another two seperate things :crazyeye:

Any opinions about that are very welcome! And if i change things so that heat resistance becomes less useful, id allow it to be swapped in the stats for something like the 'water retention'.

Well, I don't think that it's fair for a species to be heat AND cold resistant.

Heat resistance is temperature control by tricks like sweating, or creating cooling air currents. Water Retention along side of this is important, due to water loss from panting, sweating, etc.

Okay, point taken. Swap Heat Resistance for Fruit x1. I want to help repopulate the planet.

Aren't i so altruistic and not insidious:D

Mmm, fruits. I wonder what they'll taste like. My Arices can eat plant material, so they might be a dietary supplement.

I don't think that landscraper will dominate lungscraper, because i fear the flyers catching them when they come up to breathe.... Also, I want them to be manatee like, swimming in the (future) swamps of Panzaerous and across the world! I declare it well ever be a flesh eater again! (until a new genus comes out, they are still Landos Finni)

The tentacold thing was not an evolution just a protest .

A protest against Daft's moderation? It's probably better to just ask him specifics on why it went extinct.

Spoiler :
Scavenger Fanel: Grombar
Genes (24): Photosynthesis x7, Water Retention x3, Acid x1, Stem x2, Leaves x2, Cold Resistance x1, Carpeting x1, Roots x2, Fruit x2, Fast Growth x1, Scavenging Roots x2
Description: In this offshoot of the Fanel the roots systems of the plant evolved into taking more nutrients out of the soil from the dead (both plant and animal) around it. This was especially useful since there was much decay in the Zeeboolands and Fanel Forests of the world. The fruit seeds as well as the fast growth helped start this offshoot off in the right direction but does it have what it takes to survive????

Woody Fanel
Genes Added (max 2): Bark x2
Genes Removed (max 2): Acid x1
Description: In the era following the mass destruction of much life on Delta Panzerus life was much harder on those that survived. The Woody Fanel in an attempt to stabilize its numbers started to form a bark to help protect it better from the herbivores that where left. The bark proved to be a good deterrent from eating the actual plant and just having them go for the fruit to help spread the seeds out and start repopulating the Fanel's of the world. Of course if there wasn't many other plants in the area the Terradid and Cronodid's could still get through this bark with a bit of effort, but many times it was enough. Along with the development of bark the Woody Fanel lost its acidic nature since it wasn't that strong in the first place and was just a drain on its energy.

If anyone else plans to post an evolution for this turn, please do so within 24 hours! Ive been working on an update and ive drawn most of the new species.

@Grombar, maybe i made the update too big to read, but the world is actually in a heat wave at the start of this turn, and all the ice caps have melted! You can still add the cold resistance if you want though.

@Charles Li, Bark x1 might not be too tough, but it should protect the main body of the plant from too much nibbling by herbivores.

Hrm, I missed that part (the problem with scanning the post after you read it a day or more beforehand). Ill have it updated tonight with a different skill.

Edit: Ok the species is edited, so I should be good to go.

Kakoo : Luckymoose
Evolved from: Penniger Lacerta
Genes (23): Complex Stomach x1, Flesh Eating x2, Vibration Sense x2, Eyes x2, Brain Power x1, Skeleton x1, Cartilage x1, Jaws x2, Fangs x1, Communal Behaviour x1, Crawling x1, Water Retention x1, Lungs x1, Walking x1, Scales x1, Digging x1, Feathers x2, Strength x1
Description: A continued and much greater evolved version of the Penniger. The feathers are longer and over the full body. Color changes during the year for seasons and the plants around. A more complex flesh eating ability allows for the more efficient eating of those tasty anthropods. The feathers still do not allow flight but the front legs are still shrinking and folding back a little more. Giving for a more two leg walking behavior when in a running or fast walking mode. The rest of the time it crawls with the smaller front legs over things like rocks and such.

Evolution Template:
Kyponea : Luckymoose
Evolved from: Kakoo
Gene added (2 + 1 Bonus): Complex Stomach x1, Skeleton x1, Brain x1
Gene removed (optional, max 2): Scales x1
Description (optional): The Kyponea is a similar species to the Kakoo. Increased brain power gives the beast the ability to think out the hunting of prey and the skeleton helps insure the safety of vital organs in fights with other critters. The stomach is becoming more complex to help digest the food and give more energy in the every changing and harshening world. The front arms are even shorter now with little claws and only used to hold down prey. The feathers are darkening and becoming longer but still no use for flight. The head is becoming longer with more teeth growing in and the mouth becoming longer and less wide.

Think i will re-enter such a NES after the update..
