NESLife attempt #3

Bathysspire: NPC
Evolved from: Bathystower
Genes (5): Mineral Eating x1, Pressure Resistance x1, Eating Dead Things x1, Large Size x1, Heat Resistance x1
New Genes: Mineral Eating x1, Mass reproduction x1
Description: Over countless millions of years, the Bathystower slowly evolved into a new form. sharing all the traits of it's ancestors, it has developed better and better methods of extracting nutrition from the vents, and as a result, now reproduces at a accelerated rate.

oh, and great update. all are in position to retake the world. these guys looked overdue for a change.

Old Species: Jubblerus Frigidus: Splime
Evolved From: Jubblerus Multiplicitus
Genes (12): Eating Dead Things x2, Crawling x1, Complex Stomach x1, Water Retention x2, Eyes x1, Flying x2, Smelling x1, Mass Reproduction x1, Cold Resistance x1
Description: The colder climate was upon the planet, and Jubblerus Frigidus evolved to deal with the cold. While this slightly reduces the rate of reproduction, it is still high, and allows for the skies to be spammed with Jubbleri. Other creatures, look alive, or you may be bitten by one of these pests.

New Species (And, a new Genus...):
Jubblera Desertia: Splime
Evolved From: Jubblerus Frigidus
Genes Added (2+1): Water Retention x1, Complex Stomach x1, Flying x1
Genes (15): Eating Dead Things x2, Crawling x1, Complex Stomach x2, Water Retention x3, Eyes x1, Flying x3, Smelling x1, Mass Reproduction x1, Cold Resistance x1
Description: Tough times call for a tough creature. Jubblerus Frigidus just managed to scrape through the cold times, but is not as prepared to handle the new age of heat. For this reason, the Jubblera Desertia has evolved, designed to better retain water in the hot climate. Also, due to the lack of food, its stomach has complexified in order to more efficiently take energy. This also helps fuel its better flying ability, in order to get to food faster. While this extra complexity will lower reproduction levels slightly, the tough climate cannot support such huge numbers as before.

Time to finally take out the Wavy family that we hate so much, they only got 2 weak and dying species left...

Well, I would have focused on land. But if you insist *pulls on gloves* then so it shall be.

EDIT: Daft, why did the Skyscreamer go extinct? It was occupying a niche that no other species fit into, and it was quite different from my evolution this turn; the Skyscreamer would be extremely efficient at diving, whereas the Longbay is nothing of the sort.

What's the Scavenger Fanel descended from? I need to know in order to finish my latest evolutionary tree? The stats don't say.

EDIT: Evolution coming soon.

Spoiler :
Audorix: Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Viparix
Genes (26): Crawling x2, Eating Dead Things x1, Plant Eating x1, Complex Stomach x1, Exoskeleton x1, Communal Behaviour x1, Claws x3, Water Retention x3, Lungs x2, Cold Resistance x1, Eyes x1, Walking x1, Flesh Eating x2, Brain Power x2, Live Young x1, Pack Hunter x1, Smelling x1, Vibration Sense x1
Description: The ever-successful Viparix has continued to advance. It has developed a variety of sensors around its body to detect vibrations in the air, to help sense prey, threats, or other points of interest. In pursuit of more and more potential prey, it has become better adapted to survive in dry conditions, spreading its range further into the dry lands. Finally, its increasing sensory power has necessitated the development of a larger brain, which in turn allows a greater amount of co-operation and successful hunting.

Evolves too...

Arix : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Audorix
Gene added (you can add two): Walking, Water Retention
Gene removed (optional, max 2): None
Description (optional): Faced with a greatly increased scarcity of food, and particularly arid conditions, Audorixes continued to adapt to better survive and thrive in their new conditions. In all facets of their existence, they became more water-efficient, and their legs became longer and stronger to facilitate quicker locomotion in order to allow the tribes to cross vast territories in search of food.

The Arix's orange eyes have withdrawn back into the structure of the head, though the central eye is still capable of extending out of the head to provide a greater range of view. Its legs are longer and somewhat more graceful in movement than the scuttling and scuttlewalking of the past. The animal is a variety of green, yellow and brown shades found on the Fern and Zeeboolands, and its crest is a brilliant yellow and orange flare.

Great update. Good to see several Zeeboo species survive, despite the large number of species no longer with us. I always cheer when I see the Bubble Zeeboo still hanging on, even though I didn't create it.

*************************************************

Thinking Zeeboo: Fulton
Evolved From: Tougher Zeeboo
Genes Added (max 2+1): Mineral Eating x1, Brain Power x1, Heat Resistance x1
Genes Removed (max 2): None
Description (Optional): The Zeeboo had once again weathered a great catastrophe. Though the hard times had hit it not nearly as hard as it had most other species, life was harsh. Just as had happened in the first great cataclysm, the unreliability of the sun increased the amount of energy the Zeeboo derived from the ground.

The Zeeboo was able to withstand the constant flux in temperature, but it fared not nearly as well in the heat as it did in the cold. The necessary adaptation was obvious. The Zeeboo became better adapted to the heat.

The cataclysm itself awoke something in the Zeeboo. The great blast of energy, the fiery rain, and the end of the warm sun rays caused screams of terror and anguish throughout the Zeeboolands. The haunting sounds of the moaning Zeeboo terrified those creatures who could hear and disrupted the primitive thought patterns of other Zeeboo. The event stimulated the development of the Zeeboo ‘brain’. Though not well developed yet, the Zeeboo were beginning to understand the basic concepts of existence, though they as of yet lacked the tools to interact with the world around them. By the end of the era, the Zeeboo’s songs had transformed from the mournful tones of the cataclysm to the sweet song of survival.

Another great update Daft! :goodjob:

:wow: Did all my little babies survive another mass extinction? Hmm no, I see that the Algaceae Dendrorethermis went, and the Proto-Moss is missing from the document of living species even though you said it was doing fine in the text. :hmm: But Cryoalgae, Algaceae Dendrocovitis, Patcy Fern and Parasitic Moss are all around still. :D

NK, an extinction event kills animals with no regard to what niche they hold. Thats what good in it. It opens niches for new creatures to evolve into it and take it instead of the old animal while normally animals only improve in their own little niche. For example your wavies are a dying species now so the Finners could easily take over plankton eating. Were faster and better, and soon will be even more good.

Xoso Finner: erez87
Evolved from: Mouha Finner
Genes (22): Skeleton x2, Jaws x1, Plant Eating x5, Plankton Eating x1, Swimming x5, Eyes x2, Gills x3, Mass Reproduction x2, Cold Resistance x1
Description: The Xoso is the newest member of the Finner family. It also radically changes them. Evolving from the hyperactive Mouha Finner the Xoso takes it's speed, agility and perfect body and makes it better. The Xoso body has become much longer and new pairs of finns have been added upon it's body, 2 more pairs to be exact. This brought the Xoso to develop newer and better swimming styles and together with a growth in it's skeleton strength and length it has became a an animal that truly shows the meaning of it's family - The Finners. With 3 pairs of Finns and a long body that in the passing millions of years adapted to move in water flawlessly the Xosp quickly is becoming a powerful contesters for existence. Keeping the plankton eating capabilities of it's past ancestors allow it like any other Finer before it to move from one plant grounds to another without risking of dying in hunger on the way allowing it to spread much better across the seas. Beside that it's young usually feed on plankton and move across the seas bringing the Xoso everywhere.

The seas were changing. The once ruling wavy family was dying out and the niche for plankton eating was well open for something new, something better. With their speed, agility and strengths nothing could stop the Finners from taking over the plankton niche. There may be better plankton feeders but nothing would be as efficient in moving any time soon. The Xoso Double Finner could easily be the new ruler of the seas.

Xoso Double Finner : erez87
Evolved from: Xoso Finner
Gene added (you can add two): Plankton eating x2
Gene removed (optional, max 2):
The Xoso Double finners have nearly no difference from the real Finners. Only improvement comes in the shape of a second digestive system from plankton

(which also created a second mouth for them above the existing one. A bigger one made for plankton). The Xoso Doubles's name comes from the fact that it's actually two animals. The Green colored Xoso's are somewhat new and leave in the oceans feeding on plankton while the Red colored Xoso feed upon plants. They can breed among each other but it is thought that each has small differences in itself that makes it breed with it's own color whenever it can and are somewhat less good in feeding on plants, while the reds as well as attracted to their own color but are somewhat less good in feeding on plankton.

Cool evolutions :D

Does anyone have unbroken descent for one evolutionary line since update one? I think there are a few.

I cant think of any that have continued from the first update. As for the ones that came later, it seems the X-algae, Zeeboos, Finners and Yuckius have unbroken lines with no NPC or other people.

I should fix that, its from the Big Fanel V3 (the gold/brown coloured tree).

That's a fair point. Though, i didn't see the swimming/diving being as important as being better fliers and being able to roam further over land too (where small things/fliers where more vulnerable to air attack). There was also competition with better-armed predators underwater, IE the socivalion that could match its swimming, had stronger jaws and fangs, and didn't need to surface for air. There wouldn't be shoals near the surface like before, so to find prey they would need to be going deeper and spending more time underwater.

Hmm, I checked and the Proto-Moss from era 12 is still there in the file. Its the first one that had mass airborne spores and was quite hardy, plus a bit simpler than the Patchy Fern, so I imagined it being able to survive and then re-colonise faster than others.

Im not happy about this being split into red and green varieties, that would be complicating things too much I think. It could be different if you had a social species that lived in hives/colonies (like bees or ants) and you could say only the 'warriors' grew weapons, and only the 'workers' grew the digestion bits, though the species would still have just one entry the stats.

BTW, I should warn you that the species will be getting more complex and clumsy if it tries to be very good at eating both plants and plankton. Its OK for now, given how good a swimmer the Xoso is, but ultimately it might be better to start reducing the plant eating.

Ot improving the creature overall. Complexity can be won by efficiency.

And I understand. So never mind about the green and red types. It's one type, that now lives in both world. (and will evolve to two different animals in time...)

I'll upload evolutionary trees on request. Here's Dibbleria and Blobsterum. The Green Checkmark indicates that the creature is still alive.

I think he was referring only to the Wavy's "Heirs" rather than descendants. So the Redfish and Cloudfish.

I meant those that fit the creation North King made that kicked my finners our of the plankton eating world. So yeah Redfish and Cloudfish.

And never extermination the rest as well ;)

Woohoo Finners live to see another day. Time to finally take out the Wavy family that we hate so much, they only got 2 weak and dying species left... And than the Finners could try the land again... Thought maybe the Lungscraper will finally get a successful evolution..

So many possible ideas.. I hate choosing only one :p

M.... you can try an ottor like creature....

Here goes...

LungScraper: Charles Li
Evolved from: Lung Finner
Genes (16): Skeleton x1, Jaws x1, Plant Eating x3, Swimming x2, Eyes x1, Gills x1, Water Retention x2, Crawling x2, Lungs x2
Description: With a longer time allowed for breathing out of water, it is soon time for a creature more at home on land than in the water, still, it can scrapeslide into water or onto land when ever it wants. A very unusual way to travel (pushing with legs and sliding, like penguins) with it's water retention abilities almost doubled in efficiency.

Becomes....
LandScraper : Charles Li
Evolved form : LungScraper
Genes(17) : Skeleton x1, Jaws x1, Plant Eating x4, Swimming x2, Eyes x1, Water Retention x2, Crawling x2, Lungs x2, Walking x 1
New Genes (2) : Planteating x 1 Walking x 1
Genes removed: Gills x 1
After the Catastophy, some f the better sheltered survivers remained as they where, but the radiation caused a mutation in some of the Species sheltering in north Caliburnia. And athough their planteating capacity increaced.... their fines became straight again. And then, the gills were burned off as they relied on there good lungs to dive up to 3 minuets instead of using the gills. Slowly, they evolved into a more land sufficient form, seperate feed channels and breath channels that helped the plant digesting rate even faster.... The LungScraper is no more.... In it's place is the Amphipios, diving and curios LandScraper... similar to today's ottors...
