NESLife attempt #3

Wow… I expected the Thinking Zeeboo to do pretty much as it did, but I never expected the other branches of the Zeeboo family the thrive so well. More power to the Bubble Zeeboo especially! Best update yet in my opinion, excellent work Daftpanzer.

************************************************

Interactive Zeeboo: Fulton
Evolved From: Thinking Zeeboo
Genes Added (max 2): Phtosynthesis x1, Grasping Roots x1
Genes Removed (max 2): None
Description (Optional): The beginnings of true Zeeboo consciousness had dawned in the wake of the second great cataclysm. The Zeeboo was aware, if not of its own existence then at least of the Zeeboo surrounding it. In youth, it was nurtured by the soothing sounds of the elders. In times of danger it raised the cry of pain and anger, frightening off the beasts that came to ravage it. In its twilight years, its deep, booming voice soothed the new generations that would replace it.

But the creatures that fed on the Zeeboo had developed a tolerance for the spicy meal, and the ability to think, to sooth and to frighten all took their toll on the Zeeboo. The Zeeboo was not yet ready to fight back, but it was ready to protect itself.

The elder Zeeboo’s cries could not always frighten away the beasts of the world. The shrill cries of the dying saplings pained them to their core. They yearned to do something, anything, to relieve their suffering. They could feel the predators coming, yet they could do nothing but scream. Until one day, the urgent cries of generations were answered by their descendents.

An extra set of roots grew just along the surface of the ground. The Zeeboo developed the ability to use them as primitive arms. They could not fight back, but they could protect. Elder Zeeboo coiled their roots together around vulnerable saplings, protecting them and sacrificing their roots, temporarily, to safe the life of their younger siblings.

When rot took hold, they could pick out the infected area and wait for the wound to regenerate naturally. They could pick out and crush the insects and pests that afflicted them. No longer were the Zeeboo inanimate, helpless to the world around them, they were now a part of that world.

To counteract the energy required for this and their ever-developing intelligence, the Zeeboo grew more efficient at drawing energy from the hot sun, since it had once again become a stable source of energy.

Clepsuryte: TerrisH
Evolved from: Scensuryte
Genes (17): Crawling x2, Eating Dead Things x1, Plant Eating x1, Complex Stomach x1, Exoskeleton x1, Communal Behaviour x1, Claws x2, Water Retention x2, Lungs x2, Cold Resistance x2, Eyes x1, Climbing x1
Description: Intense competition on land has led to a development of a further extension of the family Scuteridae. Forced into a new niche, one group of Respirytes began to use their sharp leg-claws to climb the numerous trees, plants, and rock faces present in their environments- thus gaining both protection and access to the richest parts of plants. Eventually, as their Habitat of Choice expanded, they to evolved to follow them, becomign partialy resistant to the cold, and better evolved to survive in dry weather.

Evolves too...

Volaticyte : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Clepsuryte
Gene added (you can add two+one): Flying, Talons, Plant Eating
Gene removed (optional, max 2): Cold Resistance
Description (optional): The previous eras had been very harsh on arboreal Scuterids. Mass extinctions, the near-annihilation of all forests, and the rise of climbing predators like Dendravalions and Xiavalions had put the species through multiple population bottlenecks and culls. Ultimately, those who survived were those who could avoid predation, through fight or flight responses. And those who thrived were those who could do both. Volaticytes, as well as being efficient plant-eaters and warm-weather specialists, developed their middle legs into flat planes, for use in gliding. And every leg or wing now terminated in a sharp talon. This talon had two uses. Firstly, they could be used for climbing. Secondly, they could be used to fight. So when confronted by hunters, Volaticytes could now flap to several trees away- or if their eggs were at stake, make a stand and fight.

Note to Daft: Recall our conversation about Talons vs Claws? IE: Claws are on the manipulator limbs, and Talons are on the mobility limbs.

Chez Delta Panzerus

The location was somewhere in deep space. A rather picturesque spot, with countless twinkling stars and nebulae in sight. In the foreground, one might notice several vessels. The steampunkish vessels of Penguinska, and the eclectic hybrid fleet of NAO.

Onboard, several figures were visible in the lounge of the NAO command vessel. Several Pandas, Otters, and Safavid Persians were engaged in social festivities and partying with a group of Penguins, while near the center of the room, Iggy and Thlayli were immersed in conversation. Iggy wore a hoodie and cape, while Thlayli was bedecked in full Musketeer regalia.

"Drink?" interrupted the Panda bartender.

"Ooh, sorry," responded Iggy "I'm Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficient, S-Z alleles."

"Alphawhodawhat?"

"Um, I'll have a Ginger Ale please. The pop. You know, not the alcoho-"

"Yeah, yeah, okay." shouted the Panda, walking off back towards the bar before Iggy could continue.

"So," asked Thlayli, "Where were we?"

"NESLife. I've influenced the development of the Clepsurytes, to become fliers."

"Really? Quite interesting. I imagine you've heard of my plans for the eels...?"

Both NESers burst into maniacally evil laughter for a few moments.

"Yes I have." responded Iggy, teary-eyed.

"It's quite interesting..." murmured Thlayli, trailing off.

"Yes?"

"You know, I just had an odd thought."

"What?"

"I've always wondered what things on Delta Panzerus taste like. For example, I'm sure the Finners taste delicious, like haddock or mackerel."

"I've wondered the same thing. I did eat a Scuteryte once. Delicious. Like a mix of crab and shrimp. Pity they're extinct now."

"I hope the rest of your Ytes taste like lobster."

"Maybe the Valions taste like Frog or Alligator."

"Mmm, eww."

"Aww, they don't taste bad, just odd."

Thlayli shook his head noncommitally.

Continued Iggy, "I think that many of the Fanel and Tranel fruits would taste like citrus."

"Possibly. I was thinking for the woody fanel, they would taste more like pear. Or a pear-apple crossover with a sheath you peel."

"Mmm, and some would be like sour berries... You know, I just had an interesting thought of my own."

"Yeah?"

"Picture this: Iggy and Thlayli Eat Stuff. Yeah! That's an awesome idea!"

"Go down to Delta Panzerus and find out what species taste like? Let's do it!"

"Okay, I'll set up transportation, our warp drives could get us there within the day!"

"Well, I'll certainly start with a nice fern salad, a bit tough, but garnished with a sliced jubbler medley..." mused Thlayli.

"We'll make a landing, set up camps, and eat!"

"I wonder how the different jubblers taste..."

"Oy! Pikt! Gris! Tekk!"

"Y'ello!"

"Yo."

"Your invitation is acknowledged."

"Set up our ships for the co-ordinates of Delta Panzerus."

"Yessir."

"Alright, let this impulsive- adventure begin."

"Bon appetit!" grinned Thlayli.

*****

And thus, a little less than 24 hours later, two landing craft silently descended onto the fourth planet of the Panzerus system.

Great Update Daft as always, but I believe you mean my Sextupler not my Pentupler in the update as my Pentupler die out in the my mass extinction.

Spoiler :

Sextupler: c&cciv3
Evolved from: Pentupler
Genes (25): Crawling x2, Plant Eating x2, Flesh Eating x2, Complex Stomach x2, Claws x3, Cold Resistance x1, Communal Behaviour x2, Brain Power x2, Eyes x1 Skeleton x1, Tough Skin x1, Water Retention x3, Tough Eggs x1, Parenting Instinct x1, Pack Hunting x1
Description: Since the first Quintupler and it's descendants came on to land they found it harder to catch meat an in the seas (With most other land animals being able to run/fly away or having better develop lungs an them to out crawl them). The strategy the Land Quintupler use was to have one or two of them trying ambush prey and when take it back to the herd but now the Sextupler got a new way to catch prey. By using their “smart” brains they have developed group tactics against prey. Prey now got to deal with groups of 5 to 8 Sextupler it once. The Pentupler while being very social creature's didn't play much care over there eggs after they have been lad. But Sextupler found that by guarding there eggs more of there offspring survive to adulthood.

Aquaupler: c&cciv3
Evolved from: Sextupler
New Genes(2): Long Legs +1, Large Feet +1*
Gene removed (optional, max 2): Fresh Eating -2
Description: With the Sextupler crossing the sea to Lemunesia they evolve a new way to cross the seas. They crawl on water! Using the long leg to spread it weight out and its large feet allow it to displace the water to the point they can do this. Their long legs also allow them to ranch the leaves in forest tree, and allow rise in body above the reach of most predators.

*There is most likely a better name for these genes but I can’t think of it so there! :P

Note: This creature may not work the way i want too because it's maybe either too large or heavy but I hope it's does work (If it will not work out I change my creature)

Blah. Well it's not over yet. And no NK, the Finners will rule the seas.

Wee, Cryoalgae gets a second survival award! They are the coolest! (pun intended of course)

I must echo what Iggy said - this last update was a clear failure when it comes to reduced quality. ;) Quite simply amazing pictures, especially the deep ocean pic with Bathyspires.

Lol NK, I'm joking. I'm not going to try and take your fish job... I clearly can't. I'll take another area of expertise in plankton eating...

Giant plankton eaters. Nothing new but my guys has the stats to handle it fine :)

Double Finner: erez87
Evolved from: Xoso Finner
Genes (24): Skeleton x2, Jaws x1, Plankton eating x2, Plant Eating x5, Plankton Eating x1, Swimming x5, Eyes x2, Gills x3, Mass Reproduction x2, Cold Resistance x1
The Xoso Double finners have nearly no difference from the real Finners. Only improvement comes in the shape of a second digestive system for plankton.

Megafinn : erez87
Evolved from: double finner
Gene added (you can add two): size, plankton eating
Gene removed (optional, max 2): plant eating -1, cold resistance -1
Description (optional): The Megafinn is a gigantic version of the Xoso and double finners that evolved to better suit deep sea lives and solitary plankton eater.

The plankton eating capabilities of the double finner seemed to improve as time progressed but they were never a match to the massive swarms of the Cloudfish related species. A key change for this came from the apparent physical change that begun to appear in several groups of Double finners in the deeper seas. Their size begun to increase and while it lowered their maneuverability that had much left to still be one of the fastest in the world. The Megafinn appeared at a later era after the small changes in those group and soon became a whole species of it's own. It's giant size and quick speed gave it superior defense against predators even when being alone, as finners tend to be. It's lack in plankton feeding was well accounted for in the size of it's meals. It's could eat hundreds of times more plankton than any regular Double finner thanks to it's giant mouth. It was an unusual finner. Gigantic size was not something finners tended to show...

Iggy and Thlayli Eat Stuff: Iggy's Jounal

Day 1
Arrived early in the morning on the continent of Caliburnia. Thlayli and I split up. I think he went off fishing, or something. Anyway, the penguins set up camp in the middle of a Tranel forest and I decided to see how effective a lightsabre is as a hunting implement.
NOTE: Very effective.
After hunting around until the afternoon, I found my first large animal- a Hextupler. I snuck up from behind and incinerated (or whatever the heck it is that lightsabers do- I really must ask the techs some time) its nerve center.

After that, I got the penguins to drag it back to camp. Gathering some Novo-Tranel fruits, I ground them into a sauce (Though the seeds messed up my blender, requiring me to send off the penguins on a supply run to get new fruits and a blender). I hoped it would go well with Hextupler meat.

I would be somewhat disappointed. Hextuplers taste rubbery, with several bits that are too gristly to chew through, and are limited in terms of flavour. On the other hand, analysis showed that the meat was quite nutritious. The addition of some spices would have made it more palatable, but I didn't want to bring in any offworld foods. So I ate Hextupler with plain-old Tranel sauce that night. I was pleasantly surprised when I was brought a Xiavalion egg by some of the penguins. One of them had been eaten, but it was worth it for the omelette. We cut up some ferns and roasted up a few leftover Hextupler bits, for a unique snack. Some of the ferns have a very bitingly strong taste, almost bitter, but very tolerable. The egg tasted oddly metallic. The lack of a good cheeselike substance did hamper my omelette efforts, I shall have to search around more thoroughly to find a good substitute.

With the stars now coming out, we set up an animal net to keep away other creatures and retired to our tents. Overall, this day has had an equal share of ups and downs. I hope that tomorrow will be better, and I hope that Thlayli gets in contact soon. He seems to have left his radio turned off- or worse.

M.... Iggy, I'm gona copy your theme...

There thither be Attack Tranels there where shelturing under. Proffessor Li, Finder and Keeper of Dragons, found Thlayli's tracks toward attack tranel Groves. But we checked the DNA (The Bulds are mostly connectd) and find that Thlayli escaped, then, a couple of dead Attack Tranel Bulds where roasted and Eaten By our Dragons, While I setteled for a snack of LungScrapers, They have a unique tangy but no acidly taste, but the Dragons keep roating them.... I just hope that the ones that ran away are fine, I am happy to see that the weak are killed and the strong survived.

Iggy and Thlayli Eat Stuff: Thlayli's Journal

Day 1

Silly Iggy and his low-tech camping. Hunting is always better when done via silent attack helicopter. It might have been the heavily armed, death-bringing aircraft, but for some strange reason we didn't spot any life forms above the water level of the vast, blue-green Lemunesian Ocean.

Finally, we approached a rocky island with a small fern jungle. Startled by the sound of the rotors, a huge flock of Island Dawnfires whizzed out of the underbrush, screeching bloody murder as they elegantly glided out across the ocean. One guided missile later, we gathered up the remnants of the Dawnfires and pitched camp on the island. The portable moat was a nice touch.

Venturing out onto the rock-strewn beaches at sunset with only my brains, a portable radio, and a simple laser harpoon, I searched for some edible biomass to augment the "cajun blackened" Dawnfires we had collected.

Hiding behind a rock, I observed a few Jubblerus Fruituses congregating around an isolated Novo-Tranel. They were nimble little buggers, but I managed to get one in the scope. The laser harpoon neatly punctured the chitin of the Jubblerus, while its companions buzzed away, terrified.

We were taken by surprise when a SkullScraper lept out of a crevice, bashing some poor otter equipment carrier who had to be boosted back to Orbital Command. Generally these vegetarian creatures are only aggressive when threatened, but I wasn't willing to take any chances. I rounded out the Fruitus and SkullScraper with some fruits taken from the Novo-Tranel, and a handful of Sprouty Ferns, which looked fairly edible.

Walking back to camp, I figured that it was about time to check on Iggy's expedition. I turned on the radio.

"Despite the tragic death of our noble leader Stalin, we welcome the rise of his successor von Dunkelheit to steward Germany into a glorious new..."

Changed the channel.

"Brilliant Federate Victories in the Persian War! The Second Battle of Basra ends with a crushing..."

Harpooned the radio. Note to self: Have a word with the technicians that calibrate the multiverse radios.

Back at camp, we prepared our first Delta Panzerus meal. I was a little nervous about the SkullScraper, and my fears were confirmed, as the meat was largely stringy and tasteless. But as a strange side effect, the unsaturated oil and acidic compounds produced by its skin had a perfect consistency for salad dressing.

Mixing the oil with some chopped Sprouty Ferns resulted in a nice salad. It seems that the Fern is separated into dark green, tougher leaves near the base of the plant used for protection, and newer, light green ones near the top that were much more tender.

Chopping up the Novo-Tranel fruits into cubes, we skewered and roasted them with the Dawnfire chunks. The Dawnfire meat has a rich, pheasant-like taste, while the fruit was tangy, but with a bread-like consistency. Interesting, and very filling.

Last, we tried boiling the Jubblers, which was apparently a good idea, as the shell popped right off. After removing the extremities and the entrails, the meat of the ventral area was quite tender. It had the texture of lobster tail, but tasted more like lamb. Interesting.

Hopefully I won't get food-poisoning from all this. Tomorrow, we fish!

Crimson Slasheel: Thlayli
Evolved from: Azure Serpenteel
Genes (14): Swimming x2, Vibration Sense x2, Eyes x1, Pressure Resistance x1, Cold Resistance x1, Smelling x1, Flesh Eating x2, Scales x1, Razor Scales x1, Strength x2
Description: A rare mutation in a group of Serpenteels caused the evolution of the Slasheel, an incredibly vicious upper-ocean creature that carved a bloody path in its quest to become the top mid-range predator. When the Slasheel senses prey, hormone production causes its scales to flare out and harden into razor-sharp points, while another layer of complex muscles allowed it to become longer than ever before. Prey are given no mercy: They are strangled and ripped to shreds by the razor scales, as the spilling of blood only increases the Slasheel's fury.

Genes added: Strength (Muscular system), Flesh Eating, Razor Scales
Genes removed: Eating Dead Things x2

OOC: I see the Slasheel and the Serpenteel occupying very different niches, so hopefully I can branch them in the future.

Mission Date: D-Day, H-Hour +6

Arrived late morning approximately six hours ago in the Great Tranel Spread on what the Brains back at OpInt call "Caliburnia." Target estimated to have made landfall at approximately H-Hour -3 a few clicks downriver. Its been an eventful few hours, as the wildlife has made things interesting. Needless to say, I've left more than one mangled corpse behind me, but I'm trying to keep impact to a minimum to avoid detection. I don't know what God has in mind for this place, but He certainly got creative, no pun intended.

Mission Date: D-Day, H-Hour +8

Have located target home base. Appears to be accompanied by unidentified ally. So much for in-depth intel. The others were to be expected. Will shadow movement for a few days to fulfill Secondary Objectives. For now, I've made a tolerable bed from some of the indigenous flora, but I have the sneaking suspicion I'm being watched. Will do my best to stay frosty to avoid surprises.
