New civ linked to new resource

The implication is very strong that only one civ will get a unique resource. And if, in fact, Indonesia gets a separate one for each of the first three cities on other continents . . . well, I guess that means they do get happiness for each one. Maybe the Indonesian UA isn't quite as underwhelming as people are thinking. . . .

I was certain it was going to be glass for Venice, and at first I was kind of mad. But the mechanic is so intriguing that it makes me want to play Indonesia too.

I guess the question becomes if each city gets two special luxuries, meaning six total once you've settled every city, or if its one luxury that you get multiple copies of (so you only get the happiness bonus for the first city). If its the former I'd say it isn't the special luxury civ, a theory I'd consider likely since we basically know that Venice is in the game by now.

Wait, if Indonesia gets multiple special luxuries, it must not be the special luxury civ? I don't get it.

Anyway, re: spices and whatnot, there are two pretty clear possibilities that nobody's mentioned: either (e.g.) nutmeg, cloves, and mace are in, and the old generic spice resource has been removed entirely, or each of the first three Indonesia cities gets two copies of the old generic spice resource, and Indonesia is now the only civ that can have it. Not saying it's certain that the old spices have been removed from general circulation, but it would be the simplest solution, wouldn't it?

Interesting that you can't raze those cities—presumably, whoever conquers them gets a share of the spice.

If we didn't know that Venice is in then I'd be willing to accept that they just made six different luxuries for Indonesia. As it is glass still strikes me as the best way to make Venice special and a Glassblower UB would be sufficiently different from the Indonesian UA.

The biggest issue I have is that there are no words yet on whatever the "new resource" is/are... Usually UA can be very specific anyway about resources (Checck Arabia's, Russia's, etc); but now that one would get Unique ones, it isn't specific?

... I also maintain my theory that the Resource they were to announce were related, but not unique to a civ...

The fact that you only get the resources on the first two cities settled could mean that they will be Porcelain and Jewellery.

However, this would give Indonesia very little reason to bother with Mercantile CS's, so they could be new and unique.

It's true that the UA is worded very poorly, but I do think that the word "unique" implies "unique to Indonesia." It's just not clear whether they get one, two, three, or six different unique luxuries.

Not every luxury resource is present in a game when its created. I take the wording to mean that when they found 3 cities on another continent the game will provide them with luxuries not present in the game - hence making them unique.

That wouldn't work on user modded maps though, and i don't know how many luxuries are included on the largest maps, but i imagine they must be at least close to the limits.

Considering how many people play huge true start earth maps with all the luxuries in, i wouldn't count on this theory playing out.

Yeah, the wording on the interview and in Indonesia's UA is kind of confusing me too.

Actually, didnt they say a while back it's just one new resource? That would mean Indonesia's unique is only one and not the three spice theory.

I'm pretty sure not. A lot of people extrapolated that from it, but i went back and read it a while ago and he said nothing of the sort. I didn't even get an implied vibe.

Though on the other hand it's very strange we've seen no new resources so far.

What about tobacco as a Native American resource? No question of its extensive influence on commerce and history.
