New DLC at August: Korea ()

This site is the same site as the last 'announcement' for Korea and it seems it's not even affiliated with 2K. I'm gonna wait till there is some kind of official announcement from Firaxis or 2K that's actually in a language I can read.
It seems you haven't read the whole topic. In fact, it is affiliated with 2K as we are told. Just read this topic.

I find it quite logical that they are first polling Korean fans on who should represent Korea.

I would guess it's more to build up hype than pressure for the Koreans as DLC. With all the speculation that's being happening, Korea seems a forgone conclusion. It's just a matter of getting an official announcement, and this isn't one.

From a sheer commercial perspective, 2K would be foolish not to release a Korean Civ.

World's no. 1 or 2 internet penetration + no. 1 broadband speed worldwide + a culture which has completely embraced online gaming = no brainer.

Surprised it has taken this long actually.

take exactly that thought, then try playing MP...

the game returns would be higher than the sales.

Civ 5 isn't 'fit' to be released into Korea as part of the online culture. So they can't use that type of plan to get it done.

Why is it that whenever anyone mentions Korea, they HAVE to bring up the fact they have the world's best broadband speeds? Stop making me sad!

It's sad that they don't have two of the greatest Korean leaders on that poll.

Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

Two very appropriate choices that shouldn't have been left out.

Are you serious about this nonsense? People in North Korea are starving to death because of those two, while tiny country like South Korea is ranked 12th GDP in the world and you think Jong Il and Il Sung are the two greatest Korean leaders? If this was a joke, it's not even funny.

Let me ask you something. What country are you from? Whenever I read any Korean threads here, you are always there commenting negative stuff about them. Just wondering why so much hate? Some kind of jealousy and rivalry thing?

Moderator Action: Please don't answer to such trollbait, it's considered trolling itself.

Just curious, why does that make you sad? I think it's pretty important thing to have...Correct me if I'm wrong.

I take it it makes him realise how slow his internet is?

Embracing Starcraft =/= Embracing non-RTS'

There have been multiple titles who've attempted to capitalize on the 'e-sports' phenomenon that happened in Korea and none have even remotely been accepted with the exception of Starcraft, lol.

i think civ has potential in korea

 Well played, well played ...

Well, it wasn't really meant to be a joke.

North Korea are the true heirs to Joseon Dynasty Korea.

They've kept their language largely pure from outside influence and have maintained a steadfast isolation from the rest of the world except for China, for starters.

I will concede that Kim Jong Il maybe isn't the best choice but Kim Il Sung definitely is.

Firaxis would be very wise and forward thinking to draw from his legacy.

If I had to guess, the Korean website releases things they're not supposed to. It could be completely bogus, but the German guy has been right in the past, so I trust him here (he's also mentioned the Wonders of the World DLC). Maybe it's a promotional thing, but I don't think 2K is entirely in control of this either way.

Anyway, I would recommend Sejong the Great. Wang Kon is alright, but doesn't impress me as much.

Alright. I know you might just be trolling, but nonetheless, I'll bite.

ARE you serious? Ill Sung was as bad as Adolf Hitler himself!

Do you even know how many people he massacred? (Well nobody knows the exact number, since North Korea is "isolated"(you say it's like a good thing. really?) but from the words of those who escaped from that hell-hole(yeah, 'ESCAPED' they have NO freedom to leave their homeland, they risked their freaking lives getting to South Korea. Even now there are guards on boarderline firing at will to anyone who tries to escape.) the horrific things that are being done in concentration camps(mainly filled with political prisoners and their families) would surely make anyone shudder.

There are some articles depicting the atrocities of Il sung family but it's all written in Korean. So, for now, this will suffice.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_North_Korea

and see if you can still call him 'dear leader'.

P.S. This might be derailing from a topic, but I couldn't resist. I just couldn't sit here and watch someone praising one of the most evil men that ever lived.

Thormodr has a habit of posting controversial stuff where Korea is concerned. I wouldn't worry if I were you. Back to the topic at hand Moderator Action: I strongly suggest that you do that. The_J , it seems Korea will be released in August, even though it's not official. This would be the first time that Korean Civ 5 site has set a pseudo-specific date for the Korea DLC release, so more pressure is on them. I suspect they have some kind of source or contact from 2K that allows them to make the guess/announcement that Korea will be released in August.

King Sejong as leader for Korea please. A man of science, culture, letters, and he stomped out the Japanese pirates before making peace and trade agreements with them. The early prototype of the Turtle Ship was made in his age, likewise the Hwacha. :)

Yeah, here's my suggestion:

Sejong the Great
UU: Hwacha
UU: Turtle Ship
UA: ???

We had this discussion a long time ago. A suggestion was made for a scientific UA. This made sense in the context of modern Korea. Plus, it'll give competition for Babylon. I do think they'll go the 2 UU route, just because they have two that people have generally heard of.

Agreed. Culture/science synergy would also be a good idea.

Third. An economic/scientific bonus would be most fitting if Sejong is chosen.

If Gwanggaeto were chosen, I would imagine a defensive military bonus would work.

I live in Daegu, Korea and my internet is a lot slower than my American speed. Both at work and home. I think the PC Bangs in Korea raise the overall national speed. It's kind of an illusion.
