New DLC at August: Korea ()

Third. An economic/scientific bonus would be most fitting if Sejong is chosen.

If Gwanggaeto were chosen, I would imagine a defensive military bonus would work.

Since when has Civ5 had the leader reflect the traits?

I am not going to buy this. If any announcement is made about the next upcoming DLC, they ought to tell us by now if we are ever going to receive an expansion pack any time soon after it.

I am kinda tired purchasing more DLCs in hope that they can get the revenue they need in order the get the "ok" from 2K to start developing a much needed expansion pack. ... Just saying.

Hardly ever. I was just guessing is all, knowing from what I learned in history, these would just somehow work, but UAs seem to be more about what the civ accomplished or is famous for, so I was just throwing guesses.

Letting Koreans decide though will be interesting to see what they decide.

Gameplay changes are made through patches. Content is added through DLC. What makes you think they have any reason or need to make an expansion pack (which would require considerable investment up front for uncertain gains).

I have purchased all the DLC for this game even though I am a marginal player at best -- though I am a bit of a "completionist" and hate the idea that I don't have access to an available Civ if its just out there.

Every recent Civ series has had expansion packs, so it is a very reasonable assumption to make that 2K would put one out. I certainly hope so and look forward to it. Mostly what I am looking for in an expansion would be:

- Religion
- Espionage
- More bonuses, resources, techs, wonders, buildings, units, etc.

In other words, hopefully 2K has listened to its customers and will respond in kind... hopefully.

By the way guys, this event of who will be the next Korean leader in Civ V will reveal on 08/09/11 Korean time. To be more clear, it says voting date is from 7/18 through 8/2 and will give selected 91 people who guessed it right an event gift. It says on the webpage OP posted.

To be even more clear, selected 91 will receive one of these prizes.

Duke Nukem Forever, Duke Nukem Forever Limited Edition, Civ V Special Package, Civ V Map Pack, and Korea DLC

Which means at least no DLC until then.

So that means they have the leader all done, but it's a competition to who can guess it.

Right. On the forum, people are demanding moderator who is the leader, like "I know you know the answer mod! Tell us now!!!!" haha

None have had DLC, though. It's reasonable to think that this changes things to some degree.

Is that the 9th of August or the 8th of September?

Yup, August 9th.

Also, I was reading the news section in Korean Civ 5 main website, it said on April 5th 2011 that they are currently working on Korea DLC and will release sometime this year. Next news was on July 19th 2011 that it's confirmed Korea DLC will come out this summer.

Yeah, here's my suggestion:

Sejong the Great
UU: Hwacha
UU: Turtle Ship
UA: ???

We had this discussion a long time ago. A suggestion was made for a scientific UA. This made sense in the context of modern Korea. Plus, it'll give competition for Babylon. I do think they'll go the 2 UU route, just because they have two that people have generally heard of.

UA: I want to say "Juche" - it seems like a noble concept in and of itself. Effects are -50% maintenance to units within borders; +2 science from defensive buildings.

I have suggested Juche before but there seemed to be a lack of interest, unfortunately. I do think it would be an excellent unique ability as it would reflect Korea's historic position as the Hermit Kingdom quite well. Korea turned inward and relied upon itself for the most part for hundreds of years.

Juche is a concept that was popularized by Kim Il Sung.
Roughly translated, it means self reliance. If they were going to use that, it might have a production bonus of some kind or have something to do with resources. Perhaps a bonus to resources within their borders. Pretty cool stuff. However, I think this would be verboten as it is a sensitive/controversial subject for some.

Juche or Chuch'e (Korean pronunciation: [tɕutɕʰe]) is a Korean word meaning "main subject." In the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), "Juche" refers specifically to a political thesis of Kim Il-sung, the Juche Idea, that identifies the Korean masses as the masters of the country's development. From the 1950s to the 1970s, Kim elaborated the Juche Idea into a set of principles that the government uses to justify its policy decisions. Among these are independence from great powers, a strong military posture, and reliance on Korean national resources. "Juche" has sometimes been translated in North Korean sources as "independent stand" or "spirit of self-reliance", and has also been interpreted as "always putting Korean things first."[1]:414 According to Kim Il-sung, the Juche Idea is based on the belief that "man is the master of everything and decides everything."

There are also critics of the whole idea behind Juche as well, who question the validity of the concept.

Human rights monitoring organizations and political analysts such as Brian Reynolds Myers continually report that the actual situation in North Korea bears no resemblance to Juche theory.[29] Myers in fact goes so far as to propose Juche is nothing but a sham developed to establish Kim Il-sung as a political thinker alongside Mao Zedong. The country's economy has depended heavily on imports and foreign aid before and after the collapse of the Communist trading bloc. They also claim that the opinions of the people have no actual weight in decision-making, which is under Kim Jong-il's autocratic control. Leading Juche theorist Hwang Jang-yop joined these criticisms after defecting to South Korea, although he maintained his belief in the Juche Idea as he understood it. Political scientist Han S. Park in his book Juche: The Politics of Unconventional Wisdom (2002) and theologian Thomas J. Belke in Juche: A Christian Study of North Korea's State Religion (1999) liken Juche to a religious movement.[30]

Juche is unlikely to be the UA name, as the South Korean government may well censor anything related to North Korea. The North Korean YouTube channel is also blocked here in South Korea.

Why not "Morning Calm"? :)

Sadly, that would likely be the case. Anything to do with Communism is censored or repressed big time. (Labour unions (South Korean workers get screwed big time), Jeju Island http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeju_Uprising etc.)

I am not so sure about Morning Calm. Bad memories about fruit sellers at 6:30 AM with bullhorns, I guess. ;)

How about Taegukgi? Meaning "great extremes" it sounds kind of like a cool name for a UA.

Taegukgi might work, I remember a popular South Korean movie with that name.

Regardless, I guess we'll find out when it's released. They really didn't give us many hints at all about the Korean civ. :( I dislike how Firaxis releases all this info 1) very late and 2) all the info at once. Why not leak info slowly? Sadly the hope of future DLCs and much better patches are all I'm really interested in regarding Civ 5.

The gameplay is too bad for me to play it often these days. All the AI backstab you whenever your army is less strong than theirs, no matter how friendly you've been towards them. It'll be funny to see Queen Seondeok/King Sejong/whoever the Korean leader turns out to be backstabbing you a lot. Korean kings in that poll list *generally* didn't backstab much at all. If Korea does turn out to be cultural/scientific and defensive in nature, it'd be odd to see a truly aggressive AI with the Korean leader's face. Just...bizarre, like Gandhi declaring war on you over and over again. =|
