New Expansion Speculation Thread

Kristina? Is this a joke? That is a literal diversity hire.
She converted to the enemies religion, abdicated and moved to Rome, ruined her family's legacy (her father was one of Sweden's greatest kings) legacy, did nothing useful whilst in power and she gets picked as leader.
WTH Firaxis?

I would personally take more issue with Eleanor myself, since she did not rule in her own right. And Kupe, who is mythological. So they sit nicely next to Gandhi, Catherine, and possibly Gilgamesh for me in the dislike pile.

ohhhhh I LIKE these choices <3 The only one I'm meh on is Canada, but like, *fine* (I demand a Belgium civ in the next XPac then :p)

Also using Dido as a leader for Phoenicia... clever move, Firaxis. Clever move.

Two minor changes/additions I really want out of this expansion:
  1. specialists to actually matter - I want a reason to actually grow cities large enough to justify working district buildings
  2. another governor or two - I know they were very hit or miss with the fan base, but I've really enjoyed them

I’m liking this new group! I got Mali, Ottomans, and Inca with the leaders I wanted! Carthage, Hungary, and Sweden are in, which is great. I’m not against Canada or the Maori being in .

Interested in how Eleanor works ...

I think if we learnt anything from the leader choices for vanilla and R&F, it was that they're really going for "quirky and interesting" over "most successful ruler" this time.

I personally don't have a problem with it, as long as the leaders in question were actually rulers. I'm torn on Eleanor; I am a huge fan of hers but she didn't really rule England or France. At least Kristina ruled her country, if badly :P

Wow. That's one hell of a leak. I'm speechless.

Firaxis finally succumbed to the Canadian pressure.....

If this leak is legit, I will play them last.

Leakssss ugh. Bring back the death penalty for these people.

Kupe, Dido, Suleiman... nooo...

I also have very mixed feelings about Laurier leading Canada. On the one hand, at least it's not Yet Another Anglo(tm). But on the other... eh..? Was he really the best personality they could have gone with?

The 20th century's getting a little too crowded... Unless that's the point? Is the number of leaders per era gonna be proportional to the growth of human population throughout history? I don't think I can handle too many leaders wearing suits and bowties.

I think displeasure at non-successful or controversially "successful" leaders is definitely valid, though. Especially for people who are either interested in that nation and its history, or those who live in it (see: Seondeok)

Eh, as soon as Australia came on board all bets were off.

They could be a cool addition, helps fill out the map. I’m expecting some diplomatic and commerce abilities.

My understanding (from secondhand sources) is that the same person who leaked these images and all this info also said there will be a third expansion.

If there actually will be another expansion, I'm making a fully animated Donald Trump leader model with animations based on his real life expressions. Boyscout's promise. Well, unless you ask me not to.

Moderator Action: Please let us stay away from current, living, political leaders in game threads. leif

I'm just disappointed that the Maya aren't gonna be in this expansion, or another African Civ....

Yeah, I agree. On the whole they're decent choices, and better than the earlier leak (now seemingly a hoax) had led me to believe. Christina is an interesting pick, and they probably went with her for her interest in attracting scientists to Stockholm. She'll likely be a more research-oriented Pedro.

Phoenicia is a good ancient pick, and I'm pleased to see the Maori and Hungary in. I'm meh on Canada. Inca and Mali should be staples by now, and leave me wondering where Ethiopia and the Maya are...

Eleanor of Aquitaine is a good choice (I'm past caring about "ruled in their own right"), it'll be interesting to see how she's implemented so that her ability synergises across two civs
