New Mafia Hosting Queue

Type of Game: Small (can easily be extended to large)
Number of Players: 20. Can be extended easily to anywhere in 20-30 range, if a large game is needed.
First time host: No.
Progress: Not much in the writing, but it's fairly straightforward. Say 20%, but I can write the entirety in 1 weekend anytime.

special addendum: I would consider making an HP (hit point) system and would want feedback. Keep in mind there are no RNG abilities this game (as there was in my large game). See spoiler for details.

Title: Smurfette's box: releasing the evils of Smurf

now that the timing would be good, I'd like to throw this back up onto the queue. Here is a detailed description.

Simply put, the Smurf village was once a happy and peaceful place--until the creation of Smurfette. Paralleling Pandora from the greek myth, she was molded from the Earth and eventually releases the evils of the world; her charms and beauty "cause jealousy and competition among the Smurfs in order to cause their fall..... causing chaos among the Smurfs who competed, fighting against each other to win Smurfette's heart".

However, when Smurfette is stolen from the village, the Smurfs unite together to get back their Smurfette. Little do they know what troubles they will endure....


Notes about the game:
(A) victory conditions
This is an overall townie vs mafia game: The Smurfs have to get rid off all non-Smurfs and get back the NPC Smurfette to win the game.

There are more than one mafia faction and each have their own victory condition; all involve 1) having possession of smurfette and 2) accomplishing other goals. This may or may not involve eliminating the other mafia factions as well. Only 1 mafia faction can win--either the Smurfs win, or one of the mafia do.

(b) items

There will be numerous items in the game and abilities. Smurfette *should* change hands during the course of the game, and people in possession of smurfette will have their abilites boosted. The mafia need smurfette to win, and smurfette may give a generic benefit to the town when it has her (as well as an individual townie who possesses her). There are no RNG odds, so don't think of boosting an ability as being +25% odds.

One major factor with items in games is that you have to prevent the end game (where everyone can have like 3 items each) as being weird. You can limit it by having specific types of items (like one handed slot, head slot, two handed slot, etc). But for this game I think some items will exist only to be in use with other items, or be specific to characters. (eg: "having Brainy Smurf's glasses and tracker smurfs stick to be able to have 1 role scan. Usable by Brainy Smurf or Tracker smurf only). Having possession of smurfette could eliminate such conditions (brainy or tracker need only 1 item, or allowing a different smurf to use the ability).


(c) debate of HP system

Previously I said it could have an HP (hit point) system, but I'd like to know what people think. There would not be any RNG to it (like my other game had RNG abilities for things like thieving and even attack/defend successes). These types of things can be featured in a HP game
  • items that give/take HP (namely, smurfberries can be used to give + HP). Smurfberries would be up for vote every day.
  • triggered events, like a plague hits the village and everyone goes -4 HP or something if the doctor smurf is dead by then. The "trigger" could be something like a mafia ability (would require them to have accomplish certain goals), losing smurfette, etc. There would only be like 1-3 (a plague would likely be one, since that's the origin of the idea. though to be successful certain smurfs would need to be dead).
  • Smurfette would have done things like give + HP to the the owner of her when in their possession on top of other things.
  • You can adjust the relative strengths of mafia/town a bit easier. For instance, I can make generic smurf #14 have less HP than the said Doctor smurf. Enough such that the doctor smurf may survive 1 attack while generic smurf #14 will die.

keep in mind not all these things would have to be implemented, but just some ideas out there.


(d) roles and how Smurfette will be allocated at the start

Every smurf will get a role PM of what smurf he is from the comic (there is a handy list on wikipedia with like at least 40). That makes it extremely easy to extend the game to any number, as I just slap on a couple more mafia (make teams of 3 per se) and then add general smurfs. The mafia are not necessarily from the smurf village.

The game starts at night 0. Smurfette starts out just belonging to the "village". The mafia basically have a choice of either trying to steal smurfette from the village (only 1 faction would get it), or opt out to do some sort of permanent ability upgrade night 0 (that is less than smurfette would provide).

The Smurfs have no abilities the first night. So, the mafia have a "risk not getting anything to try to get a bigger benefit, or get a guaranteed smaller benefit" night 0. There is no night kill for night 0. If the mafia all opt out of trying to take smurfette night 0, then the town gets her and gets their benefit (and she will be randomly assigned to one townie member).


As a fun side note, you can think of this game as a lose-lose for the town....either they are wiped out, or they return Smurfette and go back to chaos. There is no happy ending for humanity smurfanity!

Take Star Wars Mafia II: Bloodlust out of the queue. My apologies to Zack and anyone who was looking forward to it, the game looked pretty good, but I can never seem to find the time or the motivation to actually finish it, and whatever I made, it was never going to be as awesome as it was supposed to be anyway. Maybe you can try and save it, or something, but I'm officially calling it quits on that game, after about a year of not caring enough about it. Again, I'm sorry.
