New Name for COTM

I prefer Smackster's suggestion. Both GOTM and SGOTM are now well established acronyms, and it might be hard for many to drop using these conventions for something else. As well as being less confusing, CGOTM remains fairly short as an acronym.

I was under the impression that the only monthly games were going to be the conquests GOTM games. As such is there any reason to change the name from GOTM???

I suggest that conquest class is renamed "Challenger" class. Predator class is mainly the preserve of of dominant established players, while conquest is made of those who would like to usurp those players. Conquest players are the challengers who perhaps wish to create a new order on the GPR at the expense of the Predators. :spear:

DRAMA!

I like it. :)

I thought of another one.

How about ACME as in the old Road Runner cartoons

Ainwood's Conquest Monthly Experience

I think that the best way would be leaving the "GOTM" and "SGOTM" without changes.
So, the problem is more easy then it appear. All we need now is to find a good abbreviations for Conquest expansion pack.
I think that adding letters at beginning like "CGOTM", "SCGOTM" or "C3CGOTM" is not a good deal and can easy confuse. It is better to add some letters at the ending of the abbreviation.
So, I think it should be looked like:

GOTM - game of the month for original Civ3 or PTW
SGOTM - succession game of the month for original Civ3 or PTW
GOTMC or GOTM_C or GOTM(C) - game of the month for C3C
SGOTMC or SGOTM_C or SGOTM(C) - succession game of the month for C3C

I think that for new players it will help to understands different types of month games which are played here.

About difficulty of the games: IMHO it should look like "Novice/Easy", "Regular/Normal", "Expert/Hard" or something like this.

Well, we've successed in confusing one player then ;)

There will be two monthly games. One for Conquests (C3C) starting at the 1st of the month and one for "Classic" (1.29/PTW) starting mid month.

I thought I'd already made it quite clear in one of the threads that, as a Mac player, if I were disenfranchised from GOTM my toys would be severely cast from the pram. Ainwood would receive a personal and very unfriendly visit, even though he thinks he's safe 12,000,000 miles away in the antipodes ;)

A big welcome, sir. :wavey:. And thank you for a very sane and simple approach to the question. GOTM, with prefices for type of game play and suffices for the software. I like it!

..... but it's altogether too logical for this crowd :(

It came up in staff conversations, and I liked it as soon as I saw it

I'm not sure about sane, but I can definitely relate to the simple bit. Sounds good to me!

How about Conscript/Veteran/Elite? I've got some other ideas too. How about Conscript/Regular/Veteran, or Conscript/Regular/Elite, or ... OK, getting a bit carried away here :crazyeye:.

The problem with this is that they were divisions in the Medal Play series, which could be confusing. Currently there aren't any plans to run more Medal Play games, but that's not to say there won't be in future, and one of these days I do intend to complete and release the season 5 and 6 results. ;)

AlanH: Thanks for not letting the old tournament games fall in the bit bucket. As a faithful player of the last 3 tournaments, I do miss them (though SG's have filled the void)

As for new names Sir_Ortin's proposal makes sense to me.

SirPleb made a similar suggestion in another forum. His is a slight bit simpler and I favor it over Sir_Ortin's:

"Regarding the name (COTM), how about:
GOTM - means anything to do with all GOTMs, e.g. the forum
GOTMO - the Original (or Old ) game, run on the mid-month cycle, GOTMO32 this month
GOTMC - the Conquests games, GOTMC01 this month
GOTMS - the Succession games"

The advantage is that every choice begins with GOTM and it is only the last letter that you have to remember to change.

With regard to the class names, I also think the Conquests class should be changed to the Challenfer class.

How about "Seekers" for the conquest class.

The problem with this option, and the beauty of Sir_Ortin's, is that if we had a Conquests succession game we'd have .... what? Maybe a different number, but it wouldn't self-evidently be a Conquests competition.

Just a quick question that popped in my mind. Has anybody actually had any kind of confusion at all with the COTM, GOTM, succesions...etc. Apparently not, I think we all pretty much got it down. And it probably wouldn't take but a few clicks of the mouse by somebody new to find out what is actually going on. Maybe we should just keep it "as is".

Re: the Class names Open doen't mean much either. So while we are changing, how about:

Adventurer to replace Conquest
Contender or Challenger to replace Open
Predator to stay as is
