New PBEM adaptation of TGW-Div 1.6: Playtesting!

Britain

British scientists are focused on better guns in order to deliver some massive blow to Germany. This may take a while , but we simply cannot continue the war with light guns we have right now.

Just to illustrate that point 3 BEF's newest light guns failed to hit anything in Metz area.

Near the coast of Lybia British BC sinks Turkish CL and down to 1 HP!

Also British unknown sinks unknown near Beyrut.

In Iraq A Div attacks Sipahi but Turks withdraw!

Italy

More and more units arrive to defend Venice from possible attacks! Nothing else to report :nope:

Week 26, 1915

Ottoman Empire:

Once again Turkish sailors demonstrate that they do not know how to operate a submarine. A British mine was detected near Haifa. Luckily Turkey had a nearby submarine available to deal with this menace however once the battle was engaged imagine the horror that observers felt as they watched the submarine sink without clearing the mine! As a result, the British mine was promoted for it's victory.

On the Jerusalem front the Turks bombard the approaching British stack of troops. Massive counter battery fire defeats two British light artillery for the loss of one Turkish counter battery gun.

Austria-Hungary:

Antivari falls! - After a short naval and artillery bombardment the 2 MG and 1 Infantry were redlined. An Austrian army and two rifle A units finish the defenders off without too much effort.

Austrian officials are successful in convincing a British War Materials brigade near Cherson Russia to join the Central Powers cause. Once they fell for our ruse the British War Materials were executed in the Russian forest.

At Warsaw, Russian troops remained barricaded within the city while Germany cycled in new troops to replace the wounded. Light Artillery began shelling them as the arrived. 16HP were taken from the Moltke Army Group. They were ready to retreat at 3HP, when the Russian Field Commander tried to finish them off. More Light Artillery fired and R-Inf were sent in. 8HP were taken from Elite R-Inf (2 of which were promoted to Elite this week). 9HP were taken from A-Inf. Then a brave Cossack Div. went in and took 1 more HP from Moltke, followed by another Kossack who took out an R-Inf. In light of eight of the LAs failing, more R-Inf were sent in. 13 died that day plus 1 A-Inf. The New Russian Corp was called in from R and R to strike and get back out. The managed to kill an Elite R-Inf before departing.

Subs near Iceland???? They finally got loose in the vast waters of Atlantic? :crazyeye:

A week of scattered activity.

Austrian troops were spotted crossing the border East of Lublin. Light Artilery was sent to the area to soften the dirt on their path. Of the first 7, 4 managed the objective of dirt-softening, but three missed and red-lined an Austrian A-Inf. That left 2 healthy Cav units, and Cossacks were sent out to meet them and possible offer them some "Hey! Watch where you're pointing that thing!" One Cossack dies at the hands of an angry Cav unit. The 2nd Cossack killed his comrade. An R-Inf was sent in to take the red-lined A-Inf, but he died. The 2nd R-Inf finished off the A-Inf. Then one more Cossack took out the wounded Cav unit and captured a Worker who, imitating the 1st Cossack said "Hey! Watch where you're pointing that thing!"

North of Warsaw there used to be a German MG nest sitting on a hill, well, let me rephrase that. There was until this week. LAs from within Warsaw shell the MG nest. The first three missed, but then the correct coordinates were found and an LA hit for 2HP. Then 2 more LAs failed to hit. but the last hit for 1HP, red-lining it. An R-Inf went in and died, the MG promoting to Vet. Another R-Inf went in and died, promoting the MG to Elite. Frustrated, the Russians again fired Light Artillery at the nest and hit for 2HP. The next LA also hit for 2HP. Then another R-Inf was sent in to rout out the Germans, and claim the hill.

2 R-Inf die against the Austrian Cav unit West of Jassy.

An AC shelled the coast North of Memel, but failed to hit nything important.

Near Strassburg two more Armies come in and defeat 3 French Rifle Rs. Regular Rifle A defeats French Rifle A bombarded by Austria the previous impulse. Then an Armored Car comes in and kills the last French Rifle R blocking the road to Strassburg.

The Nicolas Gang hits an Ottoman Light Artillery for 3HP. An AC hits a Bulgarian Inf for 1HP.

An AC sucessfully destroyed improvements to the coast North of Memel.

I am not over-joyed with the fact that the White Guard requires so many techs to obtain, and that a land unit such as it is, was placed at the end of a long line of Naval units that much be researched first. I need land units. The Naval units I must spend 70 turns researching are not that much of an improvemnet over what I have now. I have therefore decided to wait even more on the White Guard (who are no great improvement over what I have now) and research Artillery.
________________________________________________

A 155mm shells Strassburg, takes 2HP from an R-Inf. Ditto.

At Essen, 155mm fails. The 2nd Artie take 3HP from Army Group Est. The 3rd takes 1HP. South of there, a French Colonial and an A-Inf destroy counter Battery positions.
NW of Essen, 155mm redline a lone R-Inf. Then a French R-Inf went in and finished him off.

The French expansion continues.

I agree about "Land unit at the end of the Naval path" argument, however... Techs in this scenario represent not only "techs" as such, but some kind of historical progress, the flow of time, if you will. The idea was to enable Communism in tech 1917 and other Goverments to chose from for Russian Civil War. In any case, this scenario was designed with Russia given more chanse than ever before! If you focus on WHite Gurad you can get him long before the end of the 1918 --- the time when this unit just started to form historically! I have radically changed research times -- in our old game Russia could not finish a single tech!!!

I agree that the pivotal "1917" tech (to which Russian Civil War tech follows), marked my Russian Revolution and American War entry, must be the point where Naval and Land branches merge with each other -- that would make more sense. War on Land and War at Sea brought America into War and Russia into Revolution. But then it would require even more time for Russia to get into Revolution and Civil War.

Before you do so -- consider that White Guard with it's Mobility ability (old Paradrop) is the only unit that can get to the nest of Revolution -- Siberian Exile. Every turn that camp town can produce Nukes -- Revolutionaries, as soon as Germany builds Russian Revolution Wonder there (requires Bolshevik resource and 1917 tech). Germans will simply Nuke Russia into Brest Litovsk treaty if you don't race for White Guard to stop them!

Britain

NOt much is going on, just pressing on Essen. It is completely isolated now.

BEF killed a A Div near Essen for the price of A Div.

Essen Coprs been shelled for the total of 3 HP.

Turkish CA was mined near Cilician coast.

Italy

An Austrian A Div was killed by the Cordona Corps.

One full year of fighting is over at the end of my Italy turn! Guys, time to present small overview of results. I will do mine during the turn 30, but as Italy I must tell that Italy is proud to still be in the War and for destrroying the balk of the Austrian Navy, except for the dreaded Prizn Eugen!

P.S. Guys I am sorry, but I will be away from computer for the Memorial Weekend. I will resume my turn on Monday evening the earliest.

Enjoy the weekend Tigranes!!

4 Trench artillery shell the French stack outside of Strassburg and then two German armies kill two French Rifle A.

Year in review

Overall the war is not going so well for Germany or Turkey. Austria-Hungary has accomplished the most by capturing Most of Serbia and parts of Rumania.

The Western front did not bring much glory to Germany as her Schlieffen plan failed miserably due to the cautious nature of the supreme military command. Now the war in the West is a savage war of attrition with the Entente slowly approaching German soil.

In the East Germany has failed against the Russian hordes. Only one city has fallen to Germany.

Turkey has been ravaged right from the beginning of the war by nonstop Entente naval and land offensives. The Arab Revolt has ensured that Turkey can not gather enough strength to prosecute any type of offensive war. Gaza has fallen, Jerusalem and Haifa are in danger, and Baghdad is under relentless threat from British forces based in Basra.

From a Central Powers perspective it seems that starting this war might not have been such a good idea.
