New Sheriff in town

I do know how to use the "delete post" function and will keep things tidy if I need to. 7 posts deleted.

I've been told by some NESers/IOTers that I should advertise for my NES on these forums, and after reading some of these, I don't really see any difference between the spirit of IOT and NESing. So, what's the word on advertising NESes here and IOT over in the NESing forum?

IOT originally came from the alternate maps thread in OT. Eventually it became a sort of empire building game...

Not sure if NES has em, but on occasions we do get players that tick off the majority of players -_-.

And NESes original emerged from stories, and eventually it became a sort of empire building game :P . Really, look at most of the old NESes from 2002-2004, they're almost identical to what you all have going, except even less complex and certainly less durable that IOTs. As for players, well there's disagreeable troll NESers, just as I'm sure there's disagreeable IOTers. Personally, based on my experience with IOTers who've come over, I find ya'll to be a delightful bunch.

Refresh my memory, were the stories forums a sort of a texed based Let's Plays?

You can advertise here if I can post Saturday's podcast somewhere on the NES forum. :p

The stories forum were usually After Action Reports of various civ3 games.

Double A, still waiting for you to come back, Peru's practically calling out your name.

A post to advertise in the organisation thread wouldn't hurt.

More cross pollination couldn't hurt either forum. Maybe NESing needs a "new games in IOT" thread and IOT needs one for new NESes. Such threads could have brief descriptions and a link.

But if you all try such threads (they have my blessing), please don't use them to be rude or trollish. See what works.

All right, I can definitely come back for the next update.

Birdjaguar, I think that GMs need to be given a signifigant amount of latitude. I mean, they spend days worth of hours a week (on most) to run their games.

In regards to your, "using game mechanics to oust players" comments, I don't think you should do that. Sometimes a nation is ganged up on because they make bad PR decisions, just as would happen in the real world.

Basically, I think you should allow the GMs a wide berth, and mostly deal with things like "bobx21 not allowed to play and GorgeLing run game."

Welcome, Birdjaguar. I hope your presence will resolve some of the conflicts that we have here.

I certainly do understand the effort put into games by mods. I have run three NEses in my day with as many as 35 players in a game. I have little desire to step in and wrest control from a mod. I would want to work to amicable solutions when problems arise. From my perspective everyone here has a clean slate regardless of what their actual history has been. If new problems pop up or old issues come back, I would want to try and resolve them so we all have fun rather then just fall back on old ineffective "solutions". Everything will be case by case. The goal is fun not punishment. :)

I would welcome an "Open IOTs" thread in the NESing forum; possibly started by Birdjaguar to prevent trolling? Nonetheless, it would help me discern the options and differences between open IOTs much easier, because right now, sadly, I can't discern the difference all that well :p, especially the mood or atmospheres the GMs are going for.

Most IOTs aren't serious in the slightest and NES rules are more freeform.

I know most NESers are nice but the attitude of a few is more than enough for me to prefer the separation.

We're separate but equal, except that we're equaler.
