New Technology Tree Analysis

The positions and prerequisites of the items in the grayed out area are unknown.

I don't think Construction leads to Iron Working according to this post

ETA:
The DLC wonders probably stay in the same techs. The spread out of wonders is nice so AI's can't get them very fast. :)

That makes sense. Bronze Working, Archery, and Masonry (iirc) are all empty now so that would make a lot of sense.

Thanks for putting this together, Arioch. Could the extra ability gained with Civil Service be the research agreements (which has been taken away from Philosophy)? Having said that, I hope they put it with Education.

I've found confirmation that it is, in fact, Education where the research agreements sit - which makes sense. It still leaves the second ability with Civil Service unknown.

Additionally, I'm wondering where the trading posts are!

well salt is a luxury thats cool

It's interesting to see that Iron Working has become more expensive than currency and engineering.
If those two are still at 250 research (with 35 turns), then iron working is now 280 research (with 39 turns), almost double of what it was before (150 research).
Assuming none of those have already some research points in them.

This should really kill off early swordsman rushes.

What happened to the trading post under trapping? Are trading posts getting an overhaul?? Maybe they're going back to the towns from CIV

Another interesting thing to note is that if you look through the screenshots from G&K as well as videos you don't even see trading posts. WTH?

That is true that alot of screens are fabricated and what not. Still though, it is interesting. I'm curious if there are changes being made to trading posts.

see that's interesting that they say that because i saw the same screenshot you just posted and i re watched the pax demo. I watched the mouse very closely and i didn't see him mouse over that particular improvement. I'm not so sure about that being the new trading post. It looks possible but im not so sure. I hope they go back to cottage--->hamlet---->town.

Edit: Nevermind I do see the tooltip now. Hmmm idk i prefer the other style of trading post. That just looks like a big house. Still though, something is changing with them.

The spread out of wonders is nice so AI's can't get them very fast. :)

It also measn that I can't get them fast.
I liked Civ4's flexible tech tree better, but it is good that you won't be able to easily follow a route to grab all the good wonders. The wonder spread and all the prerequisites force you to make harder choices. That's definitely an improvement.
The new tree also obsoletes some OP tactics. The inclusion of Horseback Riding as a prerequsite for Civil Servirce -silly as it may be- should kill the CS slingshot and might nerf the Great Library. If the Galeass proves helpful at conquering cities it could be a good idea to jump to Compass instead.

I've found confirmation that it is, in fact, Education where the research agreements sit - which makes sense. It still leaves the second ability with Civil Service unknown.

Since Customs Houses, Manufactories and Academies have their yields improved by technologies, could it be that now we have a new GP tile improvement (the Great Prophet's Holy Site) this extra ability could increase faith from Holy Sites?

Having said that, do Landmarks not receive a boost from any technologies at the moment?
