Several years ago, there was a story of an illegal immigrant girl that suffered much the same fate from a citizen.

I don't doubt it. However i am sure you see that the thread is not about illegal immigration. While that is a crucial backdrop in this particular case, the thread is virtually entirely about the mere shock that the girl has suffered. I rarely am alarmed by reading such things, due to misery being spreading for quite some time anyway. But this story did make me feel very sick. I did choose to not mention anything from the very graphic violence that took place there.

Then why bother to include multiple time that her attacker was an illegal immigrant? Why suggest that walking by yourself would be dangerous in the presence of an illegal immigrant?

And how would she have known there was illegal immigrant around that she should avoid for some reason? Are you Greeks forming xenophobic citizens defense brigades now?

Can you explain the story further? Your explanation falls short and the only article is in Greek.

The rest is gruesome and i would rather not post about it. Some parts were broken forever.

Regardless of the thread not being a good idea here, i think i feel better for posting it. Sometimes the ugliness going on should be pushed towards the faces of those who still want to repeat that all is as it always was.
I suppose it is a sad oxymoron that what can cause offense is merely a defence mechanism of another.

I wish the girl will recover.

Sadistic people have always tortured other people in gruesome and barbaric ways, often taking pleasure in it. This is not new to the human experience.

What makes you think that "all is not as it always was"? That's always a true statement in some way or another. What are you trying to emphasize here?

You must think us all awful credulous.

I might with some, but it has nothing to do with what you quoted ;)

As said, it's RD, so if you don't want to discuss the OP but want to chase your own problems with phantoms of your own, maybe do it on other threads ;)

@Warpus: Yes, i hope she does, thanks for the kind sentence, but even the article states that her mother has stopped having the hopes she originally had that the girl would make improvement with time. Which sucks, entirely.

^No mate, you got it all confused there. And given this is an RD thread i ask that you refrain from posting more crap like your above.

Every part of that post is a serious question. What happened to that girl is a real tragedy, I don't think anybody will dispute that.

But I really don't understand why you made a thread about this. The OP is loaded with xenophobic implication that goes beyond expressing sympathy for this terribly unfortunate young woman.

Uh, i won't bother with the above again. Just don't further infest the thread with it, if you want to keep at least a semblance of what the thread is about. If you want to keep trusting that what you typed is correct, then just leave and be privately disgusted by your own false assumptions. A fair deal i suppose.

Do note that it is the last time i will reply to such posts. I will just use any next ones as an argument to ask the thread is closed, cause by now it is obviously not a good place to have it.

So what is this thread about then? You just linked an article and described some of the things. You haven't actually given a start for discussion or your reading of the significance of the article.

Then what is the thread about, exactly? What are you trying to discuss here?

Edit: <3 Senethro.

Mostly you are right and i had that in mind, then again for me the center of the OP was always this line:

from the OP said:
Sometimes some people pay even more of a price for the general collapse that is happening. The image of her screaming suddently at her mother...is too much to handle

It just made me very depressed to read that in the article. I have read enough of horrible stuff, given that in many countries there are horrors everyday. But this particular one struck a different chord for a while, and during this morning i was not really able to think many other things apart from it.

It seems that horror is reality by now. I know in many areas it always was (endless civil war, machette-carrying militia chopping limbs off and so on), but sometimes a mere picture, along with a sentence, can bring the wave of horror a lot closer.

You can't just use a Red Diamond to stifle anyone who disagrees with you. And it really seems there is nothing to discuss; you seem to just expect us to say that this is a tragedy and nothing else and then move on.
