Noble01: The One They're Afraid to Start

Cool! We now have two players!
Welcome aboard.
That's two votes for Prince.
Shall we all play on the latest patch version?

Oh, wanna start with just the three of us? I think we can learn more with a smaller roster.

Roster:

Llama
Cheron
(more players?)
RKai

I have only Vanilla Civ, so "the latest patch version" would be... 1.61?

(Sorry, didn't read anything about Warlords in the first post, else I wouldn't have joined in  )

Starting with just 3 players would make things really... speedy, but is fine with me (as long as you don't mind waiting the full 48h sometimes)

Sprite's back? Since when? Did I read in the registration thread that g_storrow wanted to play this game?
Yeah im back I welcomed myself back at Teers3. Finally done with that annoying exam, and my marks will come in a week.

Ok fine, we'll have it in Vanilla 1.61 to accomodate you. I was planning on Vanilla anyway. Shall we begin while I look for other players? Saladin we will be on Prince difficulty. Standard speed so we can play less turns and discuss more.

For those new to SG's let us review the SG etiquette. (Thanks LKendter.)
1. Once it's your turn post a "Got it" post. Got it means: you have downloaded the save AND can open it in your Civ game. Even if you won't play immediately, testing it is a good idea.
2. Any major decisions such as settling a city (outside of agreed dotmap) or declaring war or deciding what to do with a great person should be run through the team first.
3. Before settling any cities, it is proper to post a map proposing potential city sites (commonly referred to as a dotmap) and let the team decide where to settle or which order to settle in.
4. No worker automation please. Learn nothing from worker automation.
5. If you have units moving towards a distant tile but they have not gotten to the destination by the end 6f your turn, make sure to cancel all those orders before the next player's turn.
6. Try not to use the autologger/eventlogger as your report. Write manually about events that are happening, your thoughts on them, and any plans that you would like the next player/s to implement.

For this game our goal (hopefully) will be attempting to grasp the following game concepts:
1. Building enough cities before 1000BC while having military to take out the barbarians
2. Building only the needed wonders for our global strategy (here Pyramids)
3. Building enough military for an early war and waging it
4. City specialization
5. Managing a religion OR doing without a state religion
6. Using the whip
7. Tech trading

Basically we will be going along Sullla's introduction to Civ but on Prince.

Robo thanks for explaining the ground rules, very helpful. I'm ready to give this a shot! Please feel free to advise me on my reports or any technical things I can do to provide better maps, etc. I like the goals you have laid out for us, should be fun.

You can just read other SG's for how they do dotmaps and diagrams and stuff. I recommend HC's Worst Nightmare or RK-01, the first page has a good dotmap (modesty aside). I'll post the start either one hour from now or tomorrow.

OH YEAH! I forgot, we usually post the start position and a screenshot of it because other players may advise moving the settler before the first player begins their turn.

And if you ever want to learn SG ettiquite, never, under any circumstance, read a damned word I've written. (Or Pholk.)

SG schmettiquite. Have fun. Respect others' rights to have fun. Though LK's rules are mostly good. I just don't think rules and video games MUST necessarilly coexist. My $0.02.

One more thing, we usually make screenshots smaller so they fit the screen. I usually edit mine to 600x450 or 640x480.

Discuss the starting position. Looks like Settle In Place is a good option. But note that there is coast near the warrior on the south, just take note of that.

Since this is Normal speed and we have few players for now we'll go
30-20-20... for the first set
15 turns each for the second
and 10 turns each for the remaining turns.

Roster (updated again!):
*Llama (up now for 30)
*Cheron (on deck for 20)
*Abuzeus
*Emp. Killyouall
*RKai

The save:

Oh yeah... the standard "timing" is 24 hours "got it" 48 hours to play... which means that:
1. Once the previous player finishes (and the save is there--sometimes people forget), the next player has 24 hours to say "I got it".
2. After the "I got it", that player has 48 hours to play and report.

If past the deadline, we usually assume the player is Absent Without Leave and have the next player play. Sometimes we're kind and wait some more hours.

If you can't play and you don't want to be AWOL, there are two things you can ask for:
1. Skip - What it says, skip your turn.
2. Swap - Let the next player play first before you.

I would either settle in place or go 1 NW. (...).

@buildorder & research:

(Saladin starts with The Wheel, Mysticism.)
If we go Worker first, then Agriculture.
If not, we could try to get Buddhism/Hinduism/Judaism while building another warrior/scout.
I don't know, which is better.

edit: A close view revealed: there are no other floodplanes NW-NW-W, so half of my post was crap. :) Edited out.

Oh crap, I'm up first?!? The pressure... I say we settle in place, I almost always do that because wasting the turn seems like such a disadvantage in my weak-ass Noble games. I think we should get Medieval on their asses here (i.e, research religiion early)

This should be interesting to see how badly I can screw up our start and watch the peanut gallery go nuts on my decisions.

Question: when I start playing, do I play the entire set of my turns and then post the report, or can I report while I'm still in my turns? I'll start lurking elsewhere to get a better feel of how these SG games move along...

Hi everyone,

have been lurkin' around here since fall 05 and this seems to be the opportunity to change this ;-) So if nobody objects, I would like to join this game. Noble is well in my comfort zone, prince should be ok as well, so both of them would be ok with me. Lets get rollin' !

Please join abuzeus, but I think you'll see above that we already have generated a start in Prince level and I am apparently at bat.

So, like, someone tell me ... can I go home and play my turns tonight or
do we debate this opening more? I am ready to roll...

go home and play! ~ what more could these clowns say? they don't know anything

were it me, i'd probably play for HinJudaism in your capital: settle on the spot, work that floodplain and head Poly>Masonry>Mono, and build another warrior.

W/the religion start, too, you have a good chance at grabbing the Oracle ~ a culture victory is a definite possiblity with Saladin!

OK I will post my "got it" message tonight when I really "got it" ...even though I don't get any of this ;)

Now someone tell me how to make those pretty colored dots to put all over the map...

Walk first, then run :D

Take a large overview screenshot w/the grid and resource icons turned on, then someone can show you how to make a dotmap in MSPaint

Welcome, abuzeus, you have been drafted!

Pholk, be nice. You're scaring them.

We're just going through the motions so they'll be used to it.

@ Robo ~ it's more like a good cop/bad cop thing...you get to be good cop, i'm b.c. of course, they'll all be welcome to an PH SG once they complete Robo's Training School

If you have a space, I'll play, I win consistently on noble and recently won my first couple on prince. I did Beserks01's noble SG before. I would settle in place, go warrior-worker and wing it from there.:D My usual strategy. :D

Fine. Hello, Mr. Bad Cop.
Let's see how this game turns out. Usually SG's with newer players tend to have the most AWOL's, no offence intended, so I am not fully expecting this one to finish.
If they ever do, these bad boys will be ready for PH08(?) in no time. :mischief:
