Only if you count whatever the tea party has mutated into. Most independents I know are indeed moderate by commonly used nomenclature. Unless you happen to be a liberal and say "oooh, those people look conservative to me" or you happen to be a conservative and say "oooh, those people look liberal to me."

Well I wasn't basing my statement off of "yar there be no true liberals anymore" so much as some study somewhere that showed a majority of proclaimed independents are conservative or right-aligned. I don't feel like looking it up though so whatever.

I don't know about most... but probably the largest "group" of "independents" that fall under being "independent".

The Rs have really been in a downward decline for some time... they've got some moderates than can hopefully pull them into modern society, but I am skeptical they will be heeded... sensationalism/fear mongering/etc sells, and as long as we have one party primaries, well... good luck doing anything but appealing to the "base".

You do to me, yes. But I have a very strong disgust towards any kind of nationalism and patriotism, and the fact that some of those people seem to think their country is 'alive' and not merely a structure constructed over the years, think it's just the same as the one it was at it's foundation and think they're distinctly different from people in other countries is annoying me to great ends too.
