NOTW XLIII - The Walkingdead!

One frustration I found about the town was the fact that they hardly did any work and allowed those who were in charge to do the work and not think for themselves. For the most part there were bandwagons everywhere.

Teaming with Classical was good.

I was bitten by a Zombie, and we hoped that they would get in contact with us, but they never did, though I found out why soon after.

GOOD JOB WINNING SIR!

What exactly was the Authority VC? I honestly didn't know.

BTW, what is a paranoia setup?

Teaming with Classical was good.

I was bitten by a Zombie, and we hoped that they would get in contact with us, but they never did, though I found out why soon after.

It was a shame they were mindless and could not contact each other.

It wasn't clear those were also my VC, you just said "these are mine" in the QT, so I skimmed over them and forgot about them. And it didn't help that you didn't ask for the papers and clarify why you needed them until after I gave them away.

Then I discovered our VCs were impossible, just like in the other game I played in hosted by Takhisis.

So yes, I suppose I was a bad teammate. But at least I got the papers - they were voted to me, because I wasn't suspected by everyone like you were, classical_hero. Not to mention you weren't exactly the perfect teammate yourself. So don't blame all your troubles on me.

Also, guess what? We all make mistakes, and this is just a game. Learn from it and move on. :)

Sorry I completely fell off the face of the planet. RL chewed me up and spit me out a couple times running.

I'm not sure many people did think you were scum, it just happened to be two people who had guns and were able to kill you that did. However, at the time you were against it we DID need to lynch people - and so we got Autolycus, and if we'd done classical next as a bunch of us wanted and caught Visorslash soon after, yes, we then could have been in the clear. (Optimism that the scanners would catch the serial killer eventually, that would be easy, and then people would stop dying)

Pretty sure half the people in the game wanted me lynched from Day 1!!!

The short deadline screwed us over a bit, but eh.

Getting Bad Player killed was a masterstroke CH.

Funny thing was that noone asked me what my role blocking ability would look like if I used it (I never did use it). Classical Hero made something up about seducing people IIRC but it was ninja skills - and Backwards Logic didn't bother to ask me what my role block would look like!!! :/

I was killed (in part) for suggesting that CH seemed to be scummish because he wasn't working as a supposed doctor should but I was the one deemed scum!

Then I discovered our VCs were impossible, just like in the other game I played in hosted by Takhisis.

Well, all the VCs we know about were just about the same. Townies had it ridiculously tough since all vanilla townies who died automatically lost (had to survive to the end). Being a zombie wasn't much better, not being allowed to post or talk to people privately was incredibly difficult and if a couple people had become zombies earlier in the game the town should have easily figured it out. Plus conversion was also broken; mayor did go after people and so did I, but only 1 out of those 5 attempts (mayor biting me) actually succeeded, the other attempts to bite people just failed for unknown reasons.

I was bitten by a Zombie, and we hoped that they would get in contact with us, but they never did, though I found out why soon after.

You must've been bitten by NPCs at that point, one of the random zombie attacks on a location.

When I got bitten I knew it had to be from another player and that other people were infected because we were supposedly in a safe place for like the third day and it just happened out of the blue one night. Mayor really put in a lot of effort to keep up with it for so long as a zombie so too bad that didn't work out, wish we'd just gotten a couple more zombie teammates.

Sorry to Mat as well, that was a brutal way to go, I even thought on the day it happened that the result would be no lynch. I didn't even particularly think you were scum, I thought johnhughthom was the last human scum/killer of Backwards Logic. I just had to vote somebody and then got lucy on the draw too.

It was more unlucky than brutal, kind of unlucky that you chose me, and also on the lynch (if you had been lynched, I think the game would of ended there, with all the survivors and me as winners, but not completely sure, tak?). I did at first think you voted for me because of what the message from the homeland said, possibly pointing out my actual existence (after it had been pretty much dismissed earlier), but I guess it was randomly bad luck. Oh well, shame it was so close.

Takhisis said:
You are Joe Rouerk, a former prisoner, bank robber and heistmaster who has broken out of jail after the Zombie outbreak.
joerouerk.jpg

Your goal is to escape the Authorities, this can be done either by surviving them and joining the Survivor rebels or else by getting yourself 'lynched' and escaping from any port facility. (that is, any shoreside location) Lynches in inland locations will result in a normal death.

Items: None. But you do have a lot of ability with weapons… you could pick one up if the party went to the right place.

There was a way to get myself lynched at a port facility, however I didn't realise that until too late (no one else particularly wanted to go there, and it would of looked suspicious), just by claiming to be bitten while there...easy enough. I have no clue what I would of been able to do with a weapon, as I never got one, again, tak?

But a winnable role definitely, although potentially difficult to get a weapon in this game, without being scanned and found out. Oh and thanks for a good game takhisis, despite only playing about half of it :)

Well, I wasn't really around for long but I tried to follow as best as I could after I was killed. I was part of the Farmer faction, and had to collect the deeds to some land (exactly how? I'm still not sure). I let Olaf die since if I wasn't sure if the grey in the opening posts matched our faction. Once he died, I thought it was straightforward that grey = my faction. I think everyone in the faction, myself in particular, did a pretty bad job in keeping our faction together. But that's how it goes sometimes I guess.

Definitely an unorthodox and frustrating game. Paranoia setups suck (no knock on Tak, I just hate them) because it's a game where everyone is chasing a phantom. I'll wait to comment further once Tak's game notes are posted, but I'll hit on the BP killing: Had BP not missed a scan that night, he never would have been killed (and Frozen probably sticks around too). The fact that he did, plus c_h's fake testimony, pretty much sealed his fate. I even asked in response to one of his PM's regarding classical how he missed the scan and got no response, so I assumed foul play. I couldn't call him on it behind the scenes (or publicly due to the TFA lynch) and risk him turning the vigs (which he knew the identities of) on me or anyone else. So yea, I had them killed, though I also sort of/knew Kennigit had super-scanning powers at the time so the loss wasn't going to be as bad.

Question for Tak: When was mayor converted? Before or after I scanned him with the Coffee?

Every single dead player achieved a loss, correct? (Or were there a couple authorities or other non-Survivors who still accomplished some group goal?)
We vanillas had nothing there at all, and Takhisis wouldn't give us any VC information, except all vanilla survivors automatically losing if they died (the only thing Takhisis ever clarified) also was brutal.
Yes… the 'town' were the Authorities and the Company were their rivals, but not really werewolves… the Zombies were a location-determined Cult; and the Farmers got eliminated too quickly, but they could've gotten a win with a single visit to City Hall.

Everyone else was a Survivor, you're mandated to survive. It's harsh, but it's in your PM: survive the Zombies. You can win with anyone.
Autolycus was inactive. Zack threw away important papers. I was planning on killing BL the night BSmith died, but the short deadline screwed us over. In that case, you, BSmith and BL would all be dead.
Yes, sorry about that, I didn't realise I'd written '48 hours' and some people were asking for an extension (which I couldn't grant, I don't remember why, it was some RL stuff) so I kind of fooled myself into thinking we were all playing by 24 hours :(.
It wasn't clear those were also my VC, you just said "these are mine" in the QT, so I skimmed over them and forgot about them. And it didn't help that you didn't ask for the papers and clarify why you needed them until after I gave them away.

Your VCs weren't at all impossible, the only copy of the papers ever found were to be burned with some Fuel and the Radio Station's equipment destroyed. That'd basically shut off any chance of anyone finding the truth.
Sorry I completely fell off the face of the planet. RL chewed me up and spit me out a couple times running.
It's OK, it happens. I had several three-day phases because of such things.

I found it odd when the party just decided to camp the Radio Station, a one-off message and off you go to receive extra Supply Drops, if necessary just batten down hatches somewhere with Martial Law and manipulate the votes so no one gets killed and you can strat grilling people at night and letting the two detectives do their stuff.

It's strange that the thief became the antagonist when his thieving ability was supposed to help take the deed from the Farmers and/or take the Secret Papers (or vaccine instructions) from the Company.

He was Zombified at the end of Night Thirteen, he'd been infected on Night Twelve when you moved to the Coastguard from the Detective's Agency. He then attacked Earthling on Night Fourteen who was conveted on Night Sixteen. Both of them failed many other attacks.
I don't have all the PMs here, when did you target mayor?

btw Coffee wasn't a scan, it was a track/watch combination.
Tak, was I ever going to get a special ability with that chainsaw?
You should have started vigging away!

So, Role PMs. The copy-pasta machine's going away!

Spoiler classical_hero :
You are Dr. Lazar, in the Company's employ.
drlazar.jpg

You've escaped into this room with all the other Survivors and know that the only way in which you can continue with your life of maniacal experimentation and illegal drug development is by carrying out the plans laid out by Director van Allen to control a level 1 scenario:
  • Cutting all Communication Channels to the mainland so the Authorities don't learn about it all
  • Destroying all Evidence
  • Developing the ZV-69 Antidote
  • Issuing a Press Release with the help of Spin Doctors.
Only then can you deal with the Authorities and control the civilian population.

Victory Conditions: Survival. Elimination of all Zombies. Fulfillment of van Allen's Plan.

Item: Syringe. Shots: 1. This syringe contains one (1) shot at present of the elusive ZV-68 Anti-Zombie medication. When used, this will cleanse the target of any Zombie infection(s) they might have. It's recommended that you acquire more.

The special forces unit "bravo" was sent from the mainland to assess the situation on Paradise Island before the regular army would be sent.

You are a Marine under orders from the Authorities!
hankn.jpg

Private O'Donnel is the sole survivor from the Armory.
You were the only member of your squad to report at the armory to find the "code red danger" shambling towards the place in hordes. The soldiers in the armory were few but had a heap of weapons at their disposal. You defended fiercely against the living dead and fought for every room, felling heaps of Zombies until finally being overwhelmed... You made a final stand in the main armory room. All the other soldiers were already fleeing in panic or dead. You decided to die fighting - when you saw a crate of LAW anti-tank charges. Deciding that you had nothing to lose, you fired charge after charge at the shambling horde and rushed forward. Burned and battered you emerged at the armory's courtyard. All around you there were signs of fighting. Hordes of Zombies were walking everywhere, and you thought you were the only survivor in the place. You made your way cross-country through the forest and emerged on the outskirts of downtown to find a scene straight from hell...

You are the leder of the Authorities' forces!
fullbright.jpg

The grizzled and slightly crazy 5 Star General.
You, General Fullbright were given command over the Paradise Island operation, being stubbornly brave you made your way to the thick of action by motorboat and took charge of the besieged military base. While being anything but subtle, you are still a brilliant leader. You have never failed an assignment. Never ever. At first you proposed your own plan of action, entitled 'Operation Sledgehammer' which involved an all-out war with ordnance, levelling the Island block by block, but your superiors considered that too much for a small scale (as they thought) riot. It might not be good news for the average Paradise Island citizen, but you are gonna do all you have to in order to stop the undead menace or die trying.

Objectives: subdue the Zombie menace by any means necessary. Obliterate those undead monstrosities. Find the culprits and deal with them as they should be dealt with.
Paradise Island must be brought back under the Authorities' control.
The dangerous criminal Joe Rouerk must be captured.
Get to HQ at once! Only there may you contact the remainders of your forces, assess the equipment avilable and start retaking control of the situation.

'Always ready, always there.'
Guardsmen are National Guard reservists who have been called up to restore order to Paradise Island. Unfortunately, most of these soldiers have no combat experience. But you do (or, rather, did) have M-16s, which make up for a lot.
The Zombies have killed most of your regiment and most of your equipment is lost, but at least you survived their onslaught. Now you want to get back at the scum and reimpose order.

Abilities: You have no Abilities as of now.
Items: You have an M-16 rifle which would be useful if you could actually repair it with some Tools and load it with some Ammunition…

"Oh man, what the hell are those things. I mean, when I joined up they said 'Be All You Can Be'. Now I'm down to 'An Army of One'. Man, I didn't sign up for this. This sucks... we're all gonna die. Game over, man!"

You are a no nonsense private detective who's been caught in this.

The pink neon sign across the street cast a flickering shadow through the half-drawn Venetian blinds of my office window. It picked out my name, seen in reverse on the other side of the frosted glass of the office door: remmaH maS - eyE etavirP...
Spoiler continued :
It was one of those days that feels like the air's been put in a tumble drier on high cycle and then dragged through the gutter. My powder blue trousers were on the desk in front of me, with my legs inside them. Business was slow. It was time for a conference with my associates, Mr J. Beam and Mr J. Daniels. I was just about to call the meeting to order when my office door swung open. In my line of work I meet a lot of dames. Most of them come with Trouble with a capital Troub. Makes no difference whether the dame is the guilty party or innocent victim - you know that before it's all over she'll be your judge and jury. But this dame was different. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Was it the way her stockings were as ragged as my nerves after a night in the gutter wondering who turned off the stars? Was it the way her make-up had run like a hired goon after an abrupt conversation between his knuckles and my kidneys? Or was it the way she was moaning "Braiiinnssss" while shuffling her way across the floor towards me like a two-bit grass with some embarrassing news?
"Lady," I growled, "Didn't your parents tell you it's rude to enter without knocking?" I sensed trouble from this one, and when it comes to sensingtrouble from dames, I'm the best in the business. Instead of replying she lurched towards me, her bloodshot eyes fixed on my hat. Or, perhaps, on itscontents.
Clearly this customer had no business for me, at least none of the kind that pays enough to keep my partners topped up and me happy. I'm a broad-minded kinda guy - I'm happy to take what's coming to me from most broads, whether they're white, black, brown or yellow - but I draw the line at grey. It was time to adjourn the meeting, and for that I had a rebuttal that I felt even this determined dame couldn't say No to. I pulled my rebuttal out of the top desk drawer, lined it up, and pulled the trigger.
As the twitching subsided, I glanced around at the walls - well, the office had needed redecorating anyway, although Eggshell Brain hadn't been exactly the shade I'd had in mind. I stood up and took my trusty raincoat from the chair by the door. There was something behind this. Some crime had been committed. I didn't know exactly what sort of crime, or who had done it, or why, but I was going to find out. I took a slug of whiskey, reloaded my revolver, and opened the door.

Tak, my role PM said that my ability was "Weapons Master." I did get me some weapons, but I never noted that ability kicking in. Was it a passive ability?

The Farmers
Spoiler General Olaf :

You are Zeb, leader of the Farmers!
farmerzeb.jpg

Your family once owned large parts of the island but over the years most of the land was lost: either stolen, sold or gambled away. You are now using the opportunity of a Zombie apocalypse to reclaim what rightfully belongs to you and your family.

Personal Goals: Survive the Zombie Apocalypse.
The Farmers outnumber each other faction at the end of the game (I know, might be hard).
Thankfully, them silly townboys don't know the difference between one hillbilly and another.

Abilities: Baa Baa Bomb. Dr Lazar is not the only "genius" on Paradise island. Woolly Cruise Missiles are a novel invention by Zeb The Farmer. If you're in the Farm you might pick up a sheep and turn it into a suicide attacker.

Spoiler :
Yes, you can use your Sheep as deadly bombs against the Zombies and your enemies.
One day, you were clearing some of the tree stumps on your property with dynamite. After completing the job, there was quite a large surplus of dynamite remaining so you stored it in the barn for later use.
Several months went by and you had another tree stump to remove in a new area that you were plowing. You went into the barn to get some dynamite for the job and upon arriving, found a wet looking spot
on the floor just below the dynamite and one of the sheep lapping up the area. You did not know then that the wet spot had been caused from the dynamite "sweating" from being stored for a prolonged period of time in a hot barn. (...other educated people know that dynamite "sweat" is actually Nitroglycerin!)
Well, you didn't think much about it and took a few sticks of dynamite so you could clear the stump from his new field. The sheep that was in the barn followed you along to the field. Before you could get the dynamite out and set, the sheep ran playfully ahead, towards the stump. All at once there was a huge explosion and the stump was nothing but bloody toothpicks. Shocked that the sheep exploded at all, not to mention the extreme magnitude of the blast, you figured it was because that sheep lapped up that dynamite "sweat".
It was the beginning of the animal bomb technology that your family has perfected and learned to control. Because you raised many sheep and had plenty to spare you simply called his new Exploding Sheep discovery, Baa Baa Bombs.

Items: You have no Items as of now.

Spoiler DaveShack/sprig-->Turquoiside :

You are Jethro/Shadrak, one of the Farmers on Paradise Island!
farmhand.jpg

You are here with the remnants of Jeb's farmers and have mixed with them townfolksmen to see if something can be done about them Zombies. Some firepower could sure come in handy, boy.

Abilities: You have no Abilities as of now.
Items: You have no Items as of now.

Spoiler Seon :

You are one of the Farmers!
lawmanjed.jpg

You are Zeb's brother and owner of the Wild Boar Inn, the self-styled Lawman "around these hereparts".

Abilities: Pacifism. You may use your pistol to force them delinquents to give up on following you.
Items: Pistol. Sadly, you have no more of them bullets after fighting them Zombies, but this can be fixed.

Personal Goals: Survive the Zombie Apocalypse. Nail a Zombie yourself. Would do the family pride good.

Spoiler Team PM :
The Farmers are "simple folks" that most think of as just dumb, uneducated, "expendable" people that don't matter. The Farmers are "simple" enough to be more direct in what they say and do.
They have been robbed of their rightful land and want back what used to be theirs.
They are not as dumb as most believe because they are smart enough to allow the Zombies to do what they have not been able to do until now… take back their land. The Farmers will fight anyone who messes with them because they may be "dumb" but they have great pride and would never allow any bad deed to go unpunished.
They possess strange individuals that will fight with the best of them. The Farmers have weapons such as exploding sheep. The Farmers have to fight because they have been dragged into the Zombie Horror on the Island but this allows them a way to try and get back their land.

Faction objectives:
  • reacquire the deeds (Item) to the property that have been sold or gambled away by your ancestors. No one's going to check afterwards whether a few square miles of devastated countryside were owned before by someone else, as they won't be alive to claim it!
Don't let the deeds fall into the hands of the Authorities if you can help it. It would only mean trouble.
    Survive the Zombie outbreak.
At least one of you must be alive and in possession of the deeds to achieve victory.
  • (Optional) Achieve the completion of the Baa-Baa bomb project
  • (Optional) Outnumber all other factions for total victory.
Thankfully, them silly townboys don't know the difference between one hillbilly and another, so they don't know which of you is a simple farmhand and who leads the party.

Joe Rouerk
Spoiler Sparthage-->Mat93 :
Sparthage Mat93
You are Joe Rouerk, a former prisoner, bank robber and heistmaster who has broken out of jail after the Zombie outbreak.
joerouerk.jpg

Your goal is to escape the Authorities, this can be done either by surviving them and joining the Survivor rebels or else by getting yourself 'lynched' and escaping from any port facility. (that is, any shoreside location) Lynches in inland locations will result in a normal death.

Items: None. But you do have a lot of ability with weapons… you could pick one up if the party went to the right place.

Wait for your Cover Role PM! If the game has started and I've forgotten to send you one, give me a prod.

Kaden cover role
You are Kaden, a Survivor!

zombieff.jpg

Now what, you'll expect?

  • You have a new Victory Condition: Only Zombies can be left alive! All others must be eaten!
  • New ability: Zombie bite. You may attack one player every night.
  • Restrictions: you may not use any forms of private communication anymore, and you are not allowed to make 'intelligent' posts, i.e. anything else than posting votes and unvotes.

Backwards Logic said:

I thought that you said part of the reason you had me killed was that I didn't want any lynches without scans.
