NOTW XXXV: Life's A Bore (Game Thread)

Takhisis tried using his ability several times, but predicting who will be killed is remarkably difficult.

Yay Town!

(And hehe to Kennigit. You have no idea how close I came to vigging you with the cutlass the night I died, though Auto mentioned it would not have worked, IIRC. You had scum written all over you, I thought -- the only thing that stopped me was I had been away and had to make the decision on whether to do it with like ten minutes left in the night -- I wimped out. When I died, I was sure it was you.)

Once more yay town!

I do want to congratulate the town and it was fun to be a Mafia (for once) and compete with the specific composition of the town here. People need to be more paranoid and active in the future however. Kennigit, though a SK, made an excellent point about items and the Innocents did a poor job using any items they had - just lucky the right ones didn't fall into someone's hands I guess, we were close with Flevance at least. (though in this game I had a pretty solid excuse/cover - it's more that people didn't realize there was another Mafia faction and too many lurkers couldn't be sorted out).

Also I noticed we haven't seen the Ritual QT, I'm sure it'll be interesting. The Shade QT was really interesting on what they didn't know but explained how they were using abilities at the least.

So nice survival by the town and especially a good job to Frozen (who fooled everyone about secretly being the guy with his ability, not Diamondeye) and Ravus, really carried the Innocents through to the end.

Stumbled to the end not carried. It is fun reading your Invasion quick topic seeing how i was "allowed" to live. :P I was only convinced of Landlubbers innocence at the end there and was itchy whenever Frozen posted. Did you actually know Kennigt was the last scum Frozen or was it a shot in the dark?

Was good fun though and i'm glad i was allowed back in under the second role. No hard Feelings Winston for targeting you whenever the opportunity arose? That wacky personal ability said you had to die but then i realized you were probably innocent and then you turned out to have a useful talk ability, bah!

I am so envious of you, Kennigit. That was like, the dream role. A national hero gone loony, who HAS to kill everyone and who can stomach a single lynch without problems...

Instead, I get to be the boring Kuriotate who can't even fade :p

Gripes aside (we can't all be SKs), I liked the game. A shame I died early, then again I wouldn't have been of any use later on. My role was simply pretty bland :p

Good game, all. And I was actually on the winning team, even though it wasn't really my fault :p

Also - the other questions I was going to ask then - how did Romanichine get voted the Orb and some of the other tiebreakers/extra votes get counted, and how did the whole conversion/Ritual of Death work there? Otherwise it seems like Roman was an Innocent pretending to be a Mafia, even had the other Innocents believing that at the end (as can be seen on our QT too I really believed Roman was full scum at that point too, we were still looking for his other ally like Zack though)

I never pretended to be mafia :D

What I said was true, Skooma attempted to recruit me and my religion changed from nothing to "Order", however Autolycus made it clear that my goal (National Integrity) did not change. It was unclear, and it still is, if I counted toward the Ritualists total strength, while I was alive.

Yet again Earthling lies like crazy and I tell the truth, yet he says (and apparently believes) the complete opposite.

He certainly has a gift for that. Tell you what: I'll put you two as a two-man lover/SK team in my next game, how 'bout that?

Yet again Earthling lies like crazy and I tell the truth, yet he says (and apparently believes) the complete opposite.

Zack everything I said about what happened between the two of us was the truth, and you were specifically lying.

Now the game is over, I'll post the private message (that Zack lied about). As I said on our QT, I don't know how you think lying about private messages is a good strategy - the only thing it has going is that people aren't allowed to post the private messages during the game so other than the person you're lying to, it maybe can't be proven. But that person will always know you're a scum. It would be better if you just didn't answer rather than lie about things someone said publicly, or a private message that's been sent.

Just like what happened in previous games, where another player KNOWS you are lying, I could sit there and read the private message that you were obviously lying about.

So here's what we had:

Earthling: ASKS Zack if being a roleblocker is his ability and what he's been doing.

Zack (word for word, the exact PM he sent)

Zack said:
I've only roleblocked Beefy, and it was the night he was killed. That's it.

Why'd you make my ability public?

Anyways, I think that I should roleblock either Frozen In Ice or landlubber - whoever doesn't get lynched.

So Zack lied about the following:
-Obviously lied about his actual abilities. Course you don't expect him to answer "I really had the ability to work on the ritual of Death" but it was clearly a lie. In the gamethread, Zack said roughly that he "kept forgetting and didn't have time to send in orders" which was pretty clearly a lie as well - he'd been online CFC plenty and participating in other games.
-Lied about what I actually did, as I did NOT "reveal Zack's ability" in public. When I posted in public, I did ASK if anyone had more knowledge and I even asked for speculation on if a Shade could roleblock, but I did NOT say "Zack did this"
-In the thread, he lied about wanting to go after Frozen in Ice or landlubber - I specifically pointed this out in the thread, and Zack denied it.

In the game thread afterwards, Zack denied some of these things and changed his mind, and also refused to explain other things - he just never answered on any questions about, say, his item.

Now, I certainly had extra knowledge about other players - compared to the average Innocent I knew who my allies were and knew we were looking for the Ritual of Death. But Zack was still quite clearly lying and I think other players really should have been able to figure out he was lying about his abilities - he wasn't just a "lurker who 'forgot' to use his abilities"

Please stop the name-calling, both of you.

This isn't name-calling. The forums as a whole have a problem with how they treat other arguments as it is generally disapproved of to ever call another person incorrect, but that's not name-calling. And forum games are already exempted from that sort of thing anyway if that was a concern.

It's a statment of something factually true - Zack lied about his abilities. If you need people not to use the word "lie" (even though everybody always does it in Mafia games) then we could just saying "what Zack said was false" if that's more politically correct.

edit: Again, I am saying I don't see anything wrong with any of that - that's the point of a Mafia game. People are going to lie, I never considered that an awful thing. I lied about things this game too.

What I saying I didn't get and trying to point out is how Zack didn't realize or won't acknowledge he was lying/lied about some things in an obvious and scummy way - really just a tip on the future for playing the game.

Does it even matter? Just be quiet, both of you, and stop disturbing the peace. Discuss this in PMs.

No, you're right, it shouldn't matter and I won't hold it against Zack in the future either. And I've already said too much about the end of the game here, I agree, it was fun and I know other folks are trickling in/final commentary.

I'd love to hear some AARs from folks like our Serial Killer or Innocents who didn't post on QTs (for folks like me who had QTs I don't think an AAR can add much but it was fun)

Alright, here's my AAR:

I completed my PG on Day one, getting Renata/Winston lynched. After that, Diamondeye asked how that happened and I told him about my ability, and then nothing much happened. Then I died.

AAR over.

Well my shot at Kennigit was just a gut feeling really, so not exactly a shot in the dark, but close to it.:p I definately feel like I didn't deserve that win though, I didn't seem to do a very good job choosing me scan targets, and I was kind of inactive in the thread in the middle of the game. Part of my inactiveness was a strategy to not get killed at night, and part of it was then I was just busy or distracted for a while.

Anyway, thanks Autolycus for a great game. The mechanics worked well and it was very balanced. It's always much more entertaining when it comes to such a close finish.

Yeah; it really almost went 3 ways. If I hadn't killed king F the invasion probably would have won.

Unless I won out above them.

So until the end, there really were 3 possibilites for victory.

Good game guys. I was wondering if it was you who killed me Kennigit. :p I was actually trying to figure out how to get Link16 (my ally) lynched at the right time, subtly, for a personal goal of having the highest strength at the end. Your role would have been pretty cool also Kennigit.

I didn't want to use my power to mess any innocents up, so. :/

I did learn that the actor apparently tried to lynch me by making me say some ridiculous things from reading the role PM!
