nvm

There are people who don't care about ego at all. The funny thing is, the people who do care about ego will claim that such people are deluding themselves.

I think ego boosting is only a small part of the reasons for being more interested in threads that you have posted in. To some extent you may be checking threads that you posted in because it's ego boosting to have someone reply to one of your posts, but I think it has more to do with the fact that posting in a thread makes you personally involved. Plus you're more likely to leave a comment if you think a topic is interesting, so it's partly a coincidence that you check the threads you posted in and not the others.

forums are named as such, because forums have been popular since ancient times.

Plus, I truly believe forums do have an impact on social and political movements and thought. Just not like TV, it is not so much top-down, more bottom-up. as an individual, it is really useful, but as a whole, it has its impact.

what is more, there have been quite a few times I have read something on a forum, that made my life better.

I think most people who post in the political threads and such (myself included) are absolutely there for nothing but the ego boost. Their only motivation is to be right and have other people be wrong.

Of course at the same time, the whole discussion thing is tremendously interesting.

As much as I want to be right most of the time, I think the greater good will be served if somehow one can learn from discussion.
If somebody somehow can logically convince my views are wrong(or improve my views), I will accept it. I already have a healthy self-confidence in real life. Probably do not need an internet forum to boost it.
I think if one's happiness has ego as a foundation, the foundation is shaky.

I do admit, the few times you do something great is a boost to the ego. However, I'm mainly here to discuss what I know and to learn more.

Do not most social and pseudo-social interactions have some effect on the ego? Forums, like conversation in real life, are for exchanging of opinions and information. If you want to argue anti-social inclinations, that's a seperate argument. I don't know about you, but I have actually learned things from CFC.

Why else have I needed to be re-assured of my self worth 20,000 times?

some of those 20 000 were you exclaiming "WHYYYYYYYY" when you got beat up on in the NES forum abaddon :p

I signed up to play the NES games, in the Colosseum I pop into intresting threads, and sift through the garbage, sometimes I respond, usually I do not.

Sounds like narcisissm and insecurity.

Meh, other players dropping out screwed me over.. damn you not continuing that NES!

I'm addicted to procrastinating, not CFC.

I'm mostly here to spam between breaks and on the weekends. I only picked this place because I used to lurk in the civ4 section.
