OB06 - Six of the Best

Just Checking in, will read up on the discussion once I have packed the Ankle Biters off to Bed but will go with the flow if a consensus emerges.

Well as we are playing on Immortal level Darius's Immortal just feel in theme so I will vote for them. Of course this now means Ungy can vote for Willem leaving Oz to decide!

hate to be a spoiler but I'm for Willem.
Those immortals are just too strong and with Darius's traits it's pretty easy to have a huge empire pretty early if we have a rush target.
So pick away cap'n!

Nice one - Glad I called it right

No part time captains in this game Ozbenno...... let's see how many tricky decisions we can land him with.

Note I am on Annual Holidays 12th to 26th July inclusive which I guess makes me a bottom of the roster bidder please.

How about this then...

Not too shabby at all. Settle in place I think (although I always say that). As we start with Fishing, a work boat of the bat seems a good plan while researching to Bronze Working (we need Mining first) and Pottery.

proposed tech path: Mining, Bronze Working, Pottery
proposed builds: work boat, warrior, worker

Plans will depend on who is out there and where they are but an early rush does seem the best option at Immortal.

I feel a cultural or space win is a possibility here and would be different than the two conquest wins we have has so far. The cultural win would probably mean trying to snag two religions (CoL and Philosophy), which could be difficult but would require less expansion maybe and the space win means keeping up in tech and using our dikes to full advantage ;)

Any thoughts on the start and how to approach the game.

We should be able to get you a turn in before the 12th Ralph!

Settle in place sounds good.
WB first as well.
I'm away from the game--what is our other tech besides fishing?
I'm a believer in getting your big tiles working ASAP so I might tech to AH before BW and if not before then immediately after.

Immortal barbs will break culture around 2000 so unless we get lucky with copper or horse we'll need archers before then.

Other plans and VC methinks need to wait.

I'm away until 7/14 so put me down the roster a bit

I'm normally a settle in place kind of guy, as well. Unless there is a compelling reason to move, which I don't see on this map. Mining and BW sounds good. Are you thinking of doing some early cottage spam with the Pottery?

I believe the Dutch start with Fishing and Agr. With all the seafood on hand, I don't know that getting the pigs online quicker helps us much. Thus I'd say BW before AH is the way to go.

I wouldn't mind a culture game, only from the standpoint that they don't seem to get played all that often. :dunno:

Agree with settling on the spot. Also agree with the WB and Mining -> BW. I'm not so sure about Pottery right away, even though it'll be nice to get cottages up early. I guess it depends whether or not we can get copper. Also keep in mind that we need The Wheel before Pottery.

Perhaps AH after BW is the better choice?

I'm all for either a space or cultural victory.

Yep, settle in place seems good. Coastal capital, 4 hills and 14 dyke bonus tiles I can sense Ralph eagerly rubbing his hands together already.

Im ok with any victory condition culture, space or even maybe diplo will be a move away from our war mongering days of yore. Although I think Culture maybe tricky with our limit on Great People. We are going to need multi religions.

Tech plan to BW sounds good then I guess depends on whats nearby.

Culture would be nice apart from the GP issue Mighty mentions whihc I think rules it out, I would prefer a peaceful victory for a change.... but know when push comes to shove applying the :hammer: is always too tempting to resist..

Settle in Place WB and Bronze Beeline seems good to me but if no Bronze I suspect Archery will need to follow.

Bronze allows us some chopping as well as copper (hopefully), if no copper do we go Archery for barb protection or Animal Husbandry and hope for horses?

As for culture, if we can get three great cottage cities it should be possible as we have less reliance on Great Artists (financial, free speech, printing press and culture slider would give masses of culture) but as ungy said it is early to start deciding, lets just get off to a solid start and see how it develops. A peaceful resolution seems to be everyone's desire so lets aim for space/culture/diplo but keep the axes warm just in case...

EDIT: BTW, I'll start things off in approx 24 hours.

Looking at all the nearby forest there doesnt appear to be much chance of any resource until second city so I think Archery after BW the safe option.

Better late than never, here we go...

Amsterdam is founded.

The square with the hut is the only place we can have metal, very unlikely I would think with our other goodies.

Anyhow, research set on Mining and build to Work Boat. The hut gives out 41 gold.

Turn 5 brings us first contact. Just who we wanted as a neighbour for a peaceful game heh :mischief:!

Another hut gives 49 gold and Mining is followed by Bronze Working.

I play 22 turns in all. Bronze working comes in last turn as does our warrior in the capital.

Research is set to The Wheel but I can see that Animal Husbandry and Hunting, even Sailing would be good choices as well.

We will grow to size 4 in 2 turns, so I queues me up another warrior, we should go worker/settler after this I think.

Here is world as we know it.

No copper . Tokogawa's scout came from out of the north west but we haven't found his borders yet. There are plenty of good city sites around but most require Iron Working to be in.

Our starting warrior is healing his wounds and should be ready to start exploring again next turn.

I didn't revolt to slavery but we do have a big food excess, so could be a good move now (if we do that I would consider maybe throwing/whipping in a work boat between the worker and settler).

I think I delayed this long enough to cont Ralph out until he returns from holidays. We'll set the roster by the order people can grab it in the first round. Whoever is next play 15-25, stopping at a good discussion point.

I've updated the 2nd post of this thread for a count of our goals.

Who wants it?

I can't take it this weekend.

Our land is decent, but very jungly and very post-Calendar. Perhaps there will be something more tasty in the west?

I would probably go AH or Hunting -> Archery next. We're at Immortal and we wouldn't want to have any barb/AI problems too early on.

I'll take it, whilst it pains to suggest researching Archery early we do need some barb protection and am concerned with lack of possible tiles for horsies.
Do we want to go straight for Settler with the aid of the whip or worker first??
I guess somewhere up near the corn, sugar, silk is spot for second city??
I'll take more detailed look tomorrow and wait for comments.
