OB06 - Six of the Best

After checking the save the spot 3 N of Amsterdam does look tempting normally I would be wary of settling two cities so close but the land around has much potential sci and production wise.

I think we should revolt to slavery, I know uses one civic change but I'm sure we did it in last one and we only had five then. I cant see any other poss changes until Monarchy or Montheism and that is not going to be soon. Otherwise we could stuggle to control growth and maximise production.

Also tech plan?? either Wheel, Pott, Hunt, Archery, AH (middle road)
or Hunt, archery, wheel, pottery, AH (conservative)
or AH, Hunt, Archery, Wheel, Pottery (cottageless)
or AH, Wheel, Pottery, Hunt, Archery (risky)

It really pains to say this but "I vote conservative"

AH will be cheaper if we already have Hunting. And from the looks of those screenshots, we are going to need Archery this game. But I think I'd still like to know where the ponies are before we put down too many more cities, plus just getting the pigs online since we're swapping into Slavery. Thus I'd probably vote Hunt, AH, Archery, Wheel, Pottery. Or maybe Pottery before Wheel. :dunno: And then we might be looking at IW after that ...

I would say we would only get the 2nd city down before AH whatever tech plan we choose , and the suggested site for this would cover all the nearest possible slots. Plan was to 2 whip worker and get 2nd wrkboat out whilst growing before settler so we would have two clams online so not having pigs for a little while is no biggy.

Slavery now is probably better in the long run.

Tech path is tricky to determine. I would probably stay conservative and head towards Archery. We can decide what to do after that at the next turnset.

Agree to swap to Slavery now, seems the best idea. I'm not sure that 3N is a good idea. Seems too close. Hopefully we can build Amsterdam into an absolute powerhouse city and stealing tiles away doesn't seem right. I don't have access to the save right now but will check later.

Its close to me too, but to move it any further away we would lose the ability to build a dike due to not settling on the river. It would mean that 6 tiles would be shared between the two cities. As pretty much every tile has potential to become very productive in the long run I think it should be ok.

We need to get some more scouting done.
We don't need the happy from the Amsterdam garrison so I'd send it out to the W.

I think we need to go hunting-AH-archery or maybe even hunting-archery(tho it pains me to leave those piggies unworked).
Unless we get really lucky with horse I don't think we can get decent units in time w/o archery.

Settling 3N seems a bit anticlimatic. While it is a reasonable spot, it blocks no territory and claims no resources that we need. I'd rather get more scouting done and try to do better even at the cost of delaying our settler.

Longer term I think if we are alone with Toku our best bet is a rush.

I just dont see another poss site for 2nd city anywhere else requires jungle clearing and calendar. It has corn, fresh water and forested hills making it useful in short and long term the only other option is to delay settler but I'm not sure thats wise on Immortal.

I'll play tomorrow.

Played 17 until last tech researched

Turn 0 - Changed research to Hunting moved worked tiles for one extra food to grow in one turn.

Turn 1 -changed to worker

Turn 2 - D'oh forgot to revolt to slavery so revolt now.

Turn 3 - whip worker => wrkboat

Turn 5 Warrior kills wolf, Hunting to Archery

Turn 7 Judaism found in distant land.

Turn 8 Find Toku just a bit further north, Wrkboat=>Warrior

Turn 11 Find Mansa Musa's scout on another land mass just south of Amsterdam, wrkboat investigates further.
Archery=>AH
Find a hut to the west.

Turn 12 Goody hut is one barb warrior, luckily the hut was in the forest and defending our warrior wins.

Nothing but exploration until 17 AH in and not a horsie to be seen :(

There is some wine on land across the channel to the south and some other health resources, but still the only half decent land for second city nearby is on river 3 north.

There is one barb archer who is around the sign mark, we have one archer and three warriors currently another archer in production with forest/jungle and hills around they should be able to defend area.

No copper or ponies?!?!?! :gripe:

Surely there has got to be some iron around somewhere then? I'd bet that we would find some on one of those plains tiles north of the jungle. Maybe research IW next? We could queue up a Settler and head him towards one of those plains coastal sites?

No copper or ponies is a problem if we want to rush Tokogawa. Hopefully something turns up in the fog for us. I think some serious scouting is called for (3 warriors/2 archers and a work boat should do it). Not sure about researching Iron Working. We can get rid of the jungle and hopefully reveal iron but I think Pottery for some cottaging and granary (especially if we are using the whip) would be a decent proposal at the moment

Who wants it next, Kodii, Conroe or ungy?

I'm around this week but gone for a week this weekend.
So why don't I take it--I'll post up some thoughts later.

:hmm: If IW isn't in the cards, then you may be right about some serious scouting, Oz. That one screenshot makes me a bit nervous that Toku might be in a position to block us off from further expansion. Hard to tell at this point. That lake next to his city is showing as 1F, which implies a peninsula of some sort. Although there might be land NW. Agree with the WB, but how about adding a Scout to the mix? Or do we want to start prepping for an Archer rush instead?

I'd say Pottery then IW we do need some cottafes sooner rather than later. An archer rush against Toku could be very expensive as he is Protective.

I think scout the NE and see what turns up. If nothing there, settle between the corn/pig. We're creative so let's claim some territory.
I wouldn't worry too much about the dike--90+% of the time the game is decided at that point anyway.

Mansa has no EP's towards us. I'm no expert on this but I think that means he has 4 other contacts and that's the main continent to the S. That is a very favorable lie for us--we can get overseas trade and trade tech but should have little interference in our affairs.

I'll play tonight.
