Ok, this thread goes to the top. DUMBEST THREAD OF 2009!

You guys had to beat out horseporn, cheap nike shoes, pannonius, and anarcho-capitalism but you found a way. Be proud.

This is the version some here would have prefered: "I r prezdent of WESTERN democracy. No bow to muslin islamofeces diktr. Me carrier big, u smelly barbarian. WESTERN ppl r teh progressif n advansed, not like barbarian azns. So me no bow. u bow to me!"

:run::run::run::run::run: :run::run::run::run::run: :run::run::run::run::run:
America will soon be a islamofascacommunistatotalitariansocialistaterror state!

Respect?

So I guess when Obama offers the Saudi King a glass of whiskey and pork chops, he will respect his culture and drink/eat what he's been given?

Bowing to some autocratic fundamentalist pig is not really something any Westerner should do, much less when he's the US president.

Generally, one acts polite in a polite setting.

Finally an educated and respectful president.

Why is this a big deal? I think the Saudi King should have bowed back but I am not completely sure if bowing is part of Saudi culture. The king may just have been too surprised to return the compliment.

Saying something over and over again doesn't make it true. You compared the bowing to an aspect of Saudi culture that is Islamic in nature and origin. I then brought up Christianity.

Since bowing to a monarch is a purely Islamic trait...

The American President is not in charge of a global supreme dictatorship either.

Exactly, which is why other politicians don't bow to him.

If he bows deeply but carries a big stick I for one will not hold it against him.

I imagine many Americans will see it differently. I definitely would.

If I was in charge, I'd definately want people to think I'm soft. So when crunch times come they'll be more surprised. Like Dachs said, he can be soft and carry a big stick..

If you believe that it shows that you don't understand global politics. Weak leaders invite attack - even if they're in fact tough and only appear weak to others.

If Obama acts like a sissy, certain other countries might try to test his resolve, potentially starting a crisis. We don't want that, do we?

I'm not saying he should act like a sissy. If other countries are basing their plans on an assumption that he will fold, I don't see how this is a bad thing for Obama. A minor crisis would be a good way for him to assert his power. I can't see any major crisis happening like Cuba and JFK.

So far, he doesn't strike me as a strong leader. He still talks a lot, that's for sure.

This is political politeness gone too far!!!

Would anyone give a flying frick if he had bowed to some non-Muslim ruler? For some reason I doubt it.
Considering that, as I said earlier, everyone bows to Japanese officials - who don't always bow back, though they they usually will - including US heads of state, I'm guessing no.

I think people have little right to complain about this while continuing their oil wasting habits. Do you guys want oil or not?

:agree: This is such a pointless thread. :shake: And it even got to 5 pages.

The year is still early, there is more to come.

But Obama freggin bowed.

and to a religiously fundamentalist, absolutist monarch at that!
Nothing a Republican president would ever have done :mischief:

Frankly this outrage is quite amusing - but others already pointed that out. There are things to criticize this president for that have merit - this one is just not it. Even though he did look rather less dignified than Bush does while bowing above ;)
