Obese pets

People are week and want the cupboard love. People keep cats from going out. People are ignorant.

Well at night it is illegal here. Plus our male cat got scared by something and now he does not want leave the safety of the house, but he has to go outside to do his business. Unfortunately our male cat is overweight. Our female cat isn't though and she is much more willing to be outside.

Our dog is overweight, but that is because he is overfed and that is a problem, since my father thinks he is loving him by feeding him like that, but he is not, and only sending him to an early grave, like he did to our previous dog, in spite of our many attempts for him to stop over feeding him.

My cat once escaped from the house. 5 minutes later he was meowing at the back door wanting back in.

Quite often there's dead cats on the side of the road either been mauled or hit by a speeder. So we dont let him out.

This thread is useless without pics. I really wanted to see a picture of the overweight dog who could only waddle like a seal.

Animal cruelty is a stretch too far. It's not like they are forcing the animal to eat so much.

My dog who passed away was a little overweight, and I tried to keep her food to a minimum, but I think my brother gave her too much human food. My current dog is too skinny, and has a continuing problem with worms, and nothing seems to get rid of them. He was an abandoned dog, and always had this problem.

NickyJ and me are cat-bros now.
Yep. And I never would have thought it before the cat came. I always thought they were more aloof...

Same here. Our cat once stretched too far out of the 1st story window, and he immediately began running back and forth between the windows, meowing a lot. When we finally caught him, he made sure his claws were hooked to my shirt.

we rescued an obese cat from the pound, its been almost 2 years of diet food and he's still obese. He's just not into running around, his front claws were taken before we got him and in coyote country he's a sitting duck (actually the duck we had was better at avoiding coyotes) so we're glad he aint too fond of roaming the outdoors. We got stuck adopting 3 other cats but they're all excellent mousers, and with 2 dogs to keep the coyotes away, we're set. :)

And yeah, that's the other reason. Many owners don't have a good concept of what overweight is. I'm not an owner, but if asked, I wouldn't see anything noticeably" wrong with it.

Basically, you should be able to picture the dog hunting large game in the wild.

I can't picture that dog hunting anything until it starves for a few weeks to drop that fat.

People with obese pets should have those pets taken away from them.

I'm too cheap to have obese pets, to get my cats obese means I'd have to pay for more food.

My boy-cat is kind of fat though but that's cause a stupid old lady puts out food for strays & he eats some of that. Also, he's very lazy.

Overfeeding is one of the problems, but I guess the apparent correlation between fat dogs and fat owners is because they're less likely to properly exercise their pets.

You would think the fact that pet food costs money would be a good incentive to not overfeed.

Cats need to go out and do their cat stuff. I'm a week into rehabilitating a cat after 18 months in a Parisian apartment, and he's not the cat he was when he had a big old garden leading onto a railway cutting. Does need ongoing worming, but thats life.

My French is terrible but being stuck in a Parisian apartment sounds like a maladie de gourmandise.

It's illegal to keep your cat indoors?

I live on the 6th floor. Letting the cat out is not an option. I am trying to play with him at least half an hour a day, but obviously he needs to eat less. He doesn't understand why and look at me as if I was the idiot who doesn't understand what he wants :crazyeye:
Friend made a nifty cat toy for when he was out to work. He screwed on of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Amazing-Powered-Flying-Fluttering-Butterfly/dp/B003T7K8J4 on a frame near a sunlit window, so the sun will hit it during the afternoon.

The cats are so taken with this toy, they will be waiting around the toy long before the sun will hit it. Then when the first rays hit it they go into that silly "tiger crouch". Then it's pandemonium for half an hour until they got the top half separated from the bottom half.
