Of Obama and earmarks........

When earmarks become the new anti-change symbol, tell me.

Until then, stop trying to point out a delusive argument.

So staying the same isn't change? But Obama is all about change. He was hope and change. What kind of change is he if he isn't about changing earmarks for campaign donations? That's the kind of change we need. Is his only change that he is black? What kind of change is Obama for if not substantiate change. And I don't know how this is inappropriate to facts. I find very appropriate to question Obama's "change" if he is just more of the same.

I like the Straight Talk Express, really. I find that the man tends to speak his mind. Sometimes it makes him look dumber than if he had obfuscated or refused to answer, but when you notice a politician obfuscating, it's even worse.

I'd much rather a politician who refused to answer a question (since he didn't know the answer and needed to ask his expert) than one who just gave an opinion on a topic he was ignorant on. McCain's "I don't know what the best lending rate is" is a damn site better answer than Bush's "I think both sides [Intelligent Design and Evolution] should be taught to kids".

It's a bit tougher when he's wrong on a topic he's supposed to be an expert in. The "Al Qaeada/Iran" mixup really made me sad.

Honest politicians? You're silly.

But yeah it is nice to see McCain with a little more honesty then most.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I want all of them strapped to lie detectors and explosive collars.

I really hope he can keep it up. He's going to be under quite of bit of pressure and 'grooming' from his more hardcore political aides now.

:lol:ROTFLMFAO:lol:

Too fallacious of an argument... Cannot breathe...

Unless there's a plan to nuke the entire government and completely restart the constitution to prevent pork to begin with, I doubt the pork problem will ever be fixed.

So we don't need to change earmarks? Or that those who make donations get earmarks?

Pork, along with agriculture subsidies, are one of the few issues where McCain is better than Obama, but McCain has requested a few earmarks despite his claiming that he never has.

Pointing that out would have had more impact!

Two of the three earmarks are to Universities. The third was from a company that gave 500 to Obama's campaign. I really don't think that earmark was bought. If 500 to 2 Senators can get someone a $1.3m grant, then something is majorly messed up in the US.

There are a lot of things messed up with the US.
Healthcare, Education, Environment, Corporate Puppets (politicians), and Republicans.

What earmarks has McCain requested?

Pork wouldn't be a problem if every one was muslim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think a POTUS with balls enough to veto each and every bill with BS earmarks in it would help. One that got on HDTV or XMradio or podcasted once a week explaining why he vetoed and who put what earmarks in bills.

A boy can dream........

So, still better than Obama.

I actually found something that I agree with Bush on. In 2007, Bush wanted to reduce federal subsidies to rural airports from $114 million to $50 million. These subsidies are especially pointless since the airfields would be easily solvent if they weren't subsidized, as the subsidies average $74 per flight.

Then we'll switch to beef instead of pork :p

Nah. Think of the farm bill - it's then simply a matter of stuffing so much pork into a single bill that there would be a guaranteed veto-proof majority. As long as the fundamental flaw of pandering to one's constituency exists, pork will exist.

Everyone should know that according the the GAO (Government Accountability Office), aid to Israel is an earmark.

So McCain wants to cut off aid to Israel!!!! Weak on National Security!!! Won't spend a dime to help hurricane damage prevention, storm/flood/tornado recovery!!! Hates America!!!

Which is why cutting earmarks sounds great in theory, but doesn't work in practice. Hence, McCain should specify which earmarks he thinks are terrible. Because then you are denying specific voters their bridges, electrical infrastructure, military contracts, foreign aid to Israel, and have to address each specific earmark on the merits.

Dont diss our magical negro!

Yes I'd love to have the president address the nation on a weekly basis explaining how and why he did the stuff he did or will do.

So what bill did McCain stick that earmark in? And was it voted in? Did POTUS sign off on it?
