Never did find the registration book when I walked in until now. I suppose that's what happens when you're too busy checking out all the spiffy digs! So anyway, in light of some recent interest in who and what I am, thought I'd put it down here so I dont have to repeat it elsewhere.
1)
I'm an American.
That'll be obvious when you read some of my posts. I was born in the United States and I've lived here all of my life. I have visited several foreign countries, and discovered something truly amazing. The food might be different, the people might talk funny (to me, I'm sure I sound equally hilarious to them), they might have some very strange concepts of what constitutes a Real government

but when you get right down to it, the people themselves, heck, they're just like ME! What I mean is.. no matter how much we might disagree on politics, or religion, or who's got better hair, we've got a hell of a lot more similarities than we do differences. It's important to remember that sometimes. Because of that, you'll almost never see me get steamed on here. If I ever start pushing your buttons too hard, please let me know. I'm not here to make enemies, I'm here to engage people in lively discussions hopefully that will help me understand the world better.. and if I'm real lucky help them too. But enough rambling (bad habit of mine)
Here's a few more tidbits:
2)
I am a Racist.
Yep.
I dont deny it.
I happen to believe that the human race is without any question, the Most important sentient form on this planet and all other life comes second to the human bean. Er, Being!
3)
I'm a Sexist.
Now you think I'm going to qualify this with another cute little wordplay like the last one, but I wont. I Am a sexist.
Cause I believe that men and women are very different. Both special. Both vital for the human race to continue. You'll never get me to admit that men and women are equal. We're not. And I know this is going to irk someone somewhere, but the reason I feel that way, is that I was brought up to respect women and treat them with honor. I do not feel a woman is incapable of Anything that a man can do. Except one thing maybe.. to understand why the toilet seat should be left up. That is so blatantly obvious, but I dont have time to go into it here. However, there is one other point I need to make and that is this.. While I strongly believe women Can serve in the military in every field, I do not think that they should serve in combat. Why? Because as horrible as it sounds, and selfish.. Someone has to remain to pick up the pieces. And biologically if nothing else, only women are capable of continuing the species and restoring civilization.
4)
I am a Homophobe.
Because someone very close to me in my family is a homosexual and was at one time promiscuous. It was never my place to judge him, and it never will be. But I was
scared to death that I was going to lose him because he engaged in very unsafe activities that noone, straight or gay should ever engage in. He no longer does these things, for which I am relieved beyond words. He is still a homosexual and that is his decision, and no matter what, I will love him dearly. This is not a forum for discussing sexual preferences and I apologize if anyone is offended by my comments, but I felt the need to explain them. This is the only place I will ever mention these things, and the only time. I will never get in a discussion about the merits of the issue, period.
5)
I'm a Conservative Republican.
And in the United States that often draws a quick negative response from many people. I'm used to it, trust me. I am not a Libertarian, because in my opinion, they've only got it half right.. Libertarians love freedom, which I totally agree with. But they often forget that with freedom comes immense responsibility. Freedom without responsibility is Anarchy, which to me is diametrically opposed to Civilization. I am not a Liberal Democrat either, because while I value and admire the compassion for others that they exhibit, they sometimes forget the forest for the trees and in trying to Help people, only end up Hurting them in the end. And you cannot force your neighbor to be compassionate through Socialist programs because in so doing, you defeat the whole purpose of Benevolence, creating Tyranny. On the other hand, I am not a Fascist, because I never feel that to surrender all one's Freedoms in order to gain complete Security is acceptable. And Fascism is by its very nature exclusionary. The only things worth excluding in my mind are evils such as bigotry, hatred, tyranny, and ignorance. And these are all things that Fascists embrace. And lastly, I am not a Pacifist because there Are some things worth fighting for. One of my personal heroes says it best..
"Justice among the nations of mankind, and the uplifting of humanity, can be brought about only by those strong and daring men who with wisdom love peace, but who love righteousness more than peace."
-Theodore Roosevelt, from his autobiography
6)
I am a Veteran.
I served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps. We have a saying, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine." And it really is true. I am retired now, but I will always value and treasure the great privilege I was given to serve in my nation's defense. I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, and I will hold fast to that oath until my final breath. This does not make me better than anyone else who did not serve in the armed forces. I am not more courageous than the fire fighter who goes Into a burning building when everyone else is running out. I am not more honorable than the policeman who turns down the drug bribe. I am not more patriotic than war protestors who out of Honest conviction choose to gather peacefully to try to change government policy. I am no more important to the future of my country than the schoolteacher who instructs young minds and gives them the tools to become successful citizens as they grow up. But I am still very very proud of my service and expect me to staunchly defend my brothers in arms if I ever feel them impugned or demeaned by ignorant people who do not value their sacrifice.
7)
I'm a Christian
And the core of my beliefs are a matter between me and my God. I will defend Christianity, but I will not judge or belittle other religions except when they appear obviously opposed to rational behavior. Read into that whatever you will, but please do not try to tell me what I believe. Again, my faith is between me and my God, not you.
8)
I am a 30-something family man.
And that's All you're gonna get about that too

I am here to speak My mind, not my family's. They stay out of it. My career and family have nothing to do with this forum anyway. But if Elgalad gets to be too much of a mouthful..
If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al
Call me
Al
-Paul Simon
So now that you know a little more about who and what I am, please don't try to place me in your pre-defined mold or explain to me what I believe. You do not know me.. yet. Well not that well. But you might in time. In any case, my beliefs have changed much over my life, they might change again. But that old adage about old dogs and new tricks definitely applies.. and I aint getting any younger, that's for sure.
