Oh, the weather outside is...

This is what's been going on in Alberta.

People are insane to be driving in that weather. I had enough trouble today, just trying to maneuver my walker through the slush and over patches of ice where the store owners didn't bother to shovel.

Based on the interviews it sounded like people may have just been trying to get home from work. Of course if you have time, wait in a parking lot until you see a snowplow go past, but sometimes that may be hours....

In bad weather on my way home in the middle of the night and the snowplows aren't really out yet I sometimes have a debate with myself. take the interstate and go 40-45 mph (speed limit is normally 70) and may irritate a couple people if they get behind me and think they can drive faster, or take the less used county highway and go only 25 and likely not bother anyone.

Unless they're in one of the towns or at a rest stop, there aren't any parking lots on the highway.

It's a very busy stretch of highway. There are people who work in Banff-Canmore but commute from Calgary, as living space in Banff is restricted due to it being located in a national park. Canmore is just outside of Banff, but there isn't a lot of living space there either.

Of course there will be other people traveling between Alberta and BC, or people going to Banff for the skiing.

Unfortunately, when winter storms hit Alberta, either on the Trans-Canada or Highway 2, it really packs a wallop.

many areas can suffer a 'wallop' from a winter storm if it hits during the day when that is many cars on the road. Have been a few 100+ vehicle accidents (more often from fog, but some have been from snow and ice) in the US.

IIRC, we had fog one morning last year. It was gone by 9:00.

Arizona (?) has dust storms that can be just as bad as fog for driving.
Not in AZ; I live in NM and while we do get wind blown sandy days in late spring, they are nothing like the serious dust storms in
AZ.

I guess I'm fully acclimated to the local weather. It's been hovering around 50 all week here and I am miserably cold.

Sudden snow storm last night. A cold wind from the west brought 3" of snow. Sunny and clear today, highs in the 40s, snow is all gone from most places.

The red New Mexican deserts are beautiful when they are covered in snow. Truly one of the most scenic drives I have ever taken was through Albuquerque after a snow storm. It was so pretty it actually made me feel better as this drive was returning from my grandmother's death bed.

We are always glad to help sooth the anguished just by being here and accessible.

Windy as hell today. When I biked in to work this morning I got stopped cold by the wind twice.

We've been getting quite the wind storm for the last 24hrs, with gusts exceeding 100kph. So far not too many power outages, and only a few roofs blown off and trees downed. Authorities have also closed the main thoroughfare thru Central New York to empty trailers.

Looks/sounds positively miserable. Sunny with a high of 55 today. Getting ready for spring!!

White out conditions from blowing snow the last couple days made my travel home....interesting. At least I was nowhere near that 131 vehicle pileup elsewhere in the state that will take days to clear up.

Well below freezing with 50kph wind gusts all day...and i had to shovel....

My sympathies. A wind storm here is what prompted me to start this thread.

We had a couple of days when it wasn't too bad. Now we're back in the deep freeze. It's -30C now, expected to get down to -43 by morning.
