You can thank the two terms rule for that. Thank you George Washington.

Actually, thank Truman. Washington set the precedent, but people could still do it.

Personally, I think anything less than 3 is overreacting.

I gave him a 4. I was using the 1-10 scale as compared to other American Presidents, not to other world leaders.

On that note, I don't know that I'd give a 1 or a 10 to any American President. I can think of several 2 and 3s, and a few shining 8 and 9s. However, Bush I think is below the average, but not the worst.

1) How far does your acatalepsy extend? Certainly not so far that it prevents you having an opinion on posts in this thread.
Key word boldfaced.

Opinion, Erik. You and I are not politicians and don't know the first goddamn thing about running a country. If you think you do, you're wrong.

At least I know where to draw the line between opinion and official policy. A lot of people in CFC and elsewhere think they know how to run the whole planet. I know for a fact that many of the world's problems are actually due to overpopulation, and beyond that I avoid calling my opinions facts.

Or, I try to. Sometimes I just let it all go and start screwing around with peoples' minds. :D

In comparison to other American presidents? I'd give him a 2.

In comparison to the world/history at large? I'd give him a 3 or a 4.

Either way you slice it, he just hasn't been a good president. He's pissed off everyone, liberal, conservative, you name it.

Most people will be glad to see him go.

He hasnt pissed me off....and I happen to know a great deal of people who feel the same as me.

And since his overall approval rating may be pretty low, it sure as hell isnt a zero. So on any given day roughly 100 million people probably share my opinion.

I gave em one. since he has came into office, gas prices went from $.99 a gallon to $3.64 a gallon. Is it strange that he has shares in the oil company that sells us this gas? Haha.

Yeah...because presidents have so much control over the price of gas!

The reason we have expensive gas now is because stupid congress keeps the gas companies from drilling for new sources of crude. Demand is only going to rise as world populations rise. If production doesnt keep pace with growth, of course prices are going to rise.

Btw, you may want to check your facts on those gas company shares. I am pretty sure he dumped those a long, long time ago.

No, he still has em I belive. And yes, the president could regulate the price of gas, if it wasn't so profitable for him to look the other way. I garrentee you, if Clinton or Obama are elected, gas prices will plumit.
Look at it this way....
Carter-low gas prices
Regan- high gas prices
Bush-high gas prices
Clinton-low gas prices
Bush-high gas prices
Anyone else see the connection?

No, he still has em I belive.

Wrong. Pretty sure he sold them once he was running for president, same way Cheney had to sell all his Haliburton stock and leave the company prior to becoming the Veep.

And yes, the president could regulate the price of gas, if it wasn't so profitable for him to look the other way.

No...no he couldnt. Why? Because the price for oil is set internationally and is really dependant upon world production vs world demand - both of which are directly out of the Presidents range of power.

/sheesh.

I garrentee you, if Clinton or Obama are elected, gas prices will plumit.

I gurantee you they will rise even further. Why? Because both dems have promised to make it hard on the oil companies. Do you think they are going to take it on the chin? Or will they simply pass that cost on to the consumer?

Think about it.

Look at it this way....
Carter-low gas prices
Regan- high gas prices

Are you friggin kidding me? Do you have any idea why we had higher gas prices during around 1980? It was because of Carters screwup in the middle east that led to Iran becoming a Islamic fundamentalist state - which destabilized the region and led to the Iran-Iraq war.

Thats why gas prices rose. Not because of Reagan taking office.

/sheesh go learn something would ya?

Clinton-low gas prices

Uhm...by the time Reagans 2nd term gas prices had once again stabilized and were pretty much the same as during Clintons term in the white house.

Anyone else see the connection?

Probably not...because there isnt one.

I have the opinion that I do. You have the opinion that I don't. You're hoist by your own petard here. :p

Yeah, and I'd say you're the one who got hoisted. :p

My opinion that your opinion is just an opinion? That's fact. :D

Edit: Ow. That one gave me a headache.

But your assertion that I "don't know the first goddamn thing about running a country" is an opinion, not a fact.

Wrong. Pretty sure he sold them once he was running for president, same way Cheney had to sell all his Haliburton stock and leave the company prior to becoming the Veep.
I can't speak for Bush as he pretty much ran most of the oil companies he was associated with into the ground, so even if he held any , they were likely pretty worthless and may be bringing down the value of his blind trust. As for Cheney, he took office with almost half a million shares worth of unexercised Halliburton stock options and still had some outstanding as late as 2005.
