On the Floor of the Senate

I think there are other positions, Ill look at the rules and get back to you.

If you aren't a senator, do you just wait or do I get to do something?

People who are not Senators are just Roman citizens and have no say in what happens in the game. At that point you would just work with your family members behind the scenes to decide what is best for your family.

Advisory Council

Advisory Council Address to the Senate:

Salvē august Senators of Rome. We are your Advisory Council. We are your eyes and ears in the Republic, and are here to advise you on the issues of the day.

We believe Rome should begin by researching Iron Working. The barbarians are all around us and are multiplying and settling. Before long Rome will be boxed into this small peninsula with no where else to peacefully expand. In preparation for this, we should research Iron Working and secure the Iron to the West of us. While the research time seems inordinately long, once Rome is established this will shorten quickly.

We believe Rome should begin by producing a scout. The world is large and there is much yet to explore. In addition, we do not yet possess the technology to make open borders agreements with other peoples, so will soon be unable to get our units out to explore. Finally, we do not think it advisable to send out the spearmen, as we will need them closeby to fend off treachery from our rivals in the surrounding area.

We believe the spearmen should scout the surrounding area, looking for ruins and learning the positions of our rivals. They should be kept from going too far for reasons previously stated.

Our first improvement project should be on the nearby horses. Improving this plot will not only increase production in Rome, but it will also give us access to Chariots and eventually horsemen.

We have many options for social policies. Depending upon the goals of this body, we would suggest Tradition, Honor, or Piety. Tradition will help us to quickly gain access to more social policies, and will be beneficial for our early empire, which will be inevitably small due to the large number of peoples surrounding us. In addition, Tradition will help stave off rebellious fervor once our borders begin to overlap with others’. Honor will be beneficial if we wish to nip in the bud the growth of the peoples around us. Piety would be beneficial should we wish to found a religion further down the road. We would remind the senate that there are MANY other peoples in this world, so it may be harder than normal to found a religion.

We believe the Senate should put a stay on the decision for Praetor Dux, and for now directly administer the actions of the military via majority votes until our people grow and we have more among us to man this position.

Beyond these issues, we believe the Senate should keep in mind the sheer size of this world, and the fact that Europa is the home of many Civilizations. In addition, the Senate should consider the uniqueness of this world, and how different it is from what they have always known (OOC:take heed of the mods).

Plebeian Tribune
Plebeian Tribune Address to the Senate:
I am honored to appear before this high body of government, being from among the lowly Plebeians myself. Affairs in the world of the Plebeians are great: we have 10 extra global happiness, we have no dissatisfied minority groups among us, and Rome is growing. The only advice I can give, is that the Wine resources to the Northwest of Rome would bring to us even more happiness. Besides this, life is great in the Republic!

Consul Princeps, Laurentinus Princeps Maximus

As Consul Princeps, I am temporarily suspending the pre-established Senate Consul Positions other than my own. I will reinstate them when the Senate reaches 6 members. That is all.

Not such a great start. Wonder how the Romans did so good with it?

Those chosen to be Senators were chosen by RNG and the formula I set out (it's under Consul Princeps in the Magistrates section). Of those who were chosen, the position went to the most senior, or the person that was first chosen by RNG.

Senators, I stand humbly before you. Our spearmen are beginning to get restless. They are young, and have fire in their hearts! They need something to keep them occupied. I recommend sending one unit south until he reaches the end of our peninsula, and sending the other north 4 tiles while training a scout unit to scout more efficiently.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have added a few interactive charts to the rules to help clarify things a bit. Under 'Senate > Senate Overview' there is a link to a chart that details the structure of the Senate. Under 'Senate > Legislative Sessions' there is a link to a chart that details how legislative sessions work. If you hover over the boxes in each chart they will give you further explanation on how each piece fits together. I hope seeing it laid out this way will make everything more clear, and serve as a quick reference in the future. Here is another copy of the links:

I will now give my Verba Fecit.

Senators, I am here to give my Verba Fecit on the state of Rome. We must debate about what is best for Rome and her people. Firstly, I would like to Set the Debate to What we should research as our progress in technology is vital to the health of our nation. Our researchers have many directions that they can explore, it is up to you, senators, to choose their path.

The production of Rome is also important. I believe that we should equip a scouting unit to better understand the land around us, this scouting unit will go north, once it is complete. After the scout, we should erect a monument to Rome's founder, Romulus. With the completion of the monument, a granary should be built to better preserve food supplies in Rome.

Finally, I shall lay out my plans for the two legions of spearmen we have. I believe the second battalion should head south and explore until it reaches the end of our penninsula. The second will head north into the great land of our continent, exploring and finding new cultures.

Now, it is up to you, senators, to decide the path we will follow.

I'm terribly sorry, but I will have to drop out of this. I have even less free time than expected, and I've got a study trip to China coming up, which will limit it even further.

Looks like we are down a senator. Looks like he will have to be replaced:mischief:

Laurentinus Princeps Maximus, Consul Princeps of Rome

It has come to my attention that Senator Magnivus Claudius Regulus has been called east, indefinitely, to the distant land of Serica. Because he will not be able to meet the duties of his office, he has abdicated his position. Gods go with him, and may he grow rich in fine silks!

I have prayed to the gods they have told me they wish for Sunsnus Cornelius Cincinnatus to ascend to the Senate. Congratulations Senator, may you bring glory to Rome!

OOC:@Magnive: No problem! Good luck with your trip!
