Peace with the Aztecs?

When I checked last night (earlier), we could get everything except Tlacopan. Darn it.

Right, they won't give us all their techs, their map and Tlacopan but they will give us their world map and Tlacopan. Tey have math, lit, CoL, map making and polytheism but England has those as well so we will get them all through the Great Library. I say we make peace and take the city and the map in the deal. We can then start researching monarchy and preparing to attack the Japanese while we continue to settle the landbridge.

i second that proposal. wont they even give lit+city+map? lit shouldnt be worth so much cause we are 1 away from getting it ourselves.

Yep, me too. I walked right by that one. What did I do with my coffee mug? Thanks you guys.

I xth donsig's proposal... While we now have the opportunity to spread worldwide fear and respect by total elimination of the Aztecs, exploiting them for a while longer sounds even more devious.

I agree with Donsig's propsal

I'm just curious to know how many nths we can get in a single thread. Count me in.

We get their city, their map and any techs we can in addition to those two, then let the Library do it's thing.

I agree with donsig's proposal.

Keep in mind that at their size, there is only the most remote of chances that they might actually learn a tech all by themselves, so I think we can freely squash them later as diplomatic circumstances allow.

I stand by my opinion that it is not worth our while to let the Aztecs live a moment longer than we have to. We can purchase the Japanese territory map for 80 gold, and soon enough, we will be extorting their world map. I generally consider 80 gold to be suitable compensation for a city, which is what we are giving up if we sign a peace treaty now. I would like to reiterate that we have no information leading to proof that we have the Aztecs backed into a corner, so they will begin to expand again the instant we sign a peace treaty. They will likely target areas that contain resources or luxuries, depriving us of those until we are free to fight them again. Also, declaring war during the 20 turn peace treaty would damage our reputation so severely that we may not be able to trade for technologies during the middle ages, which means we lose. There is no guarantee that they will move troops into our territory and no guarantee that they will declare war when told to get out, or that that option will even be present in the diplomacy screen.

So, we give the Aztecs a second lease on life for 80 gold, and at the same time deprive ourselves of valuable territory (not just the cities they have now, but the ones they will build in just a few turns because of the emperor level accelerated growth and production rates) and resources? I repeat, they will not remain a one city civilization for more than a few turns, and this may be our only chance to destroy them for diplomatic reasons. They will also not necessarily be technologically backwards, since the AI virtually gives technologies away to other AI civs on this level, which means they may have the means to do damage to us once the effects of the Great Library wear off.

I have to agree with eyrei. After a major loss, the Aztecs will expand like wildfire. However, perhaps it would be best to limit the Aztecs to a single city, and take them for all their worth. After 20 turns are up, the Aztecs should have more than 3 cities. We should keep a few swords in the area, and then let all hell loose on Monty after those turns.

I agree w/eyrei. Let's kill them now..there is no telling what they could become one day and we may have to damage our rep if we do it later. To save our soldiers, let's kill them now.

I continue to say we should use them as a GL farm. We currently have them at our mercy, and in a position where we can extract from them the maximum amount of milk with the minimum amount of moo (in a manner of speaking). They are more valuable to us alive and at war than dead or at peace. If they constantly feel their last city is threatened they will generally build military units rather than settlers, so should remain contained as an OCC for a good while.
