PerfNES I: Ultima Ratio Regum

I need my questions answered before I can send orders.

Well, the deadline has passed, but since I've been mostly m.i.a. for the last few days I'm going to extend it to 4 PM Friday, so that people who needed questions answered can get them answered. Everyone else, get your orders in.

Thanks. I may not be able to make Friday's deadline, depending on work and life crap...

Oh, sorry, Perf, I misremembered and thought the deadline was today anyway. I ought to be able to make the new one.

Righto, deadline is here.

I have orders from: England, Rome, Egypt, Poland, Frisia, Denmark, Swabia, Isbunah, Italy, Sicily, Hungary, Chobanids, Delhi, Mongolia.
I need orders from: Gascony, Sweden, Moscow, Ethiopia, Lithuania, Nanhai, Guangzhou, Yamato

Bit of a disappointing turnout. I've got enough to do the Med, at least, so everyone has a day or two more to get orders in before I get to their section, and even if you can't manage that I hope you'll send in brief NPC instructions.

OOC: You're just a wonderful person :p

Been consumed by RL. Will send orders though.

14. The Two Dynasties Period

While official imperial histories savage the Nanhai (the name itself implying a barbarian origin), even the most hostile court historians admit grudging respect for the calibre of Nanhai generals and administrators. While the Yongzheng Emperor's questionable strategic talent, he possessed a remarkable knack for appointments; during the Two Dynasties period, Nanhai possessed a pool of talent unequalled among its contemporaries in its brilliance, dedication and loyalty.

Chief among them was Wang Yangming, whose impressive accomplishments as a general were outshone by the astounding brilliance of his philosophy. Driven out of the rival Haishu state for his association with the Wu clique, he was given high honors by the Yongzheng Emperor. The Chuanxilu, the best-known of his works, was written during the evacuation of Sichuan; it remains one of the canonical texts of the Neo-Confucianist interpretation. His establishment of China's first reliable courier service and postal system kept the imperial court in touch with its far-flung armies and allowed the Nanhai to continue directing armies well after Haishu troops entered Sichuan.

While less well known in the West, Zhu Dayou is known by every person in China above the age of 8; his biographical poem, written by the Yongzheng Emperor to commemorate his unswerving loyalty, was made required reading for third graders during the early twentieth century.

His protégé, Qi Jiguang, is best remembered for his military exploits, and his close personal relationship with the Yongzheng Emperor; his three-hundred mile march across bandit-infested Jiangxi has been the subject of several comics, three movies and one critically-acclaimed MMORPG.

Right, so bad news: something's wrong with my laptop and I'm not sure whether I'll be able to get it going again. But aha, says I, no worries cause I, being a foresighted bastard at times, just backed up to an external a couple of days ago. But no luck: external seems to be completely broken, though it was fine two days ago. The universe apparently hates me.

The good news, such as it is, is that the update is basically finished - I was in the process of putting the finishing touches on the map when it stopped working - so once/if I get my laptop working again the update will follow shortly. Really sorry about this.

The data should almost certainly be recoverable. Don't reinstall any of your drive software (or mess with your computer at all) before taking it to the on-campus IT people and seeing if they can safely recover all your documents first.

At times, the safest external possible is your email account. It can't get broken/electrocuted like a USB unless someone nukes Google/Yahoo/Microsoft's servers.

I still love you Perf. :)

BAH! Typical Francophile quitter talk; real Anglo-Saxon men solve their problems by themselves. On which note, GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! While the laptop remains uncommunicative, I have managed to scream the external hard drive into submission and force it to cough up the backups. My delight is only slightly tempered by the fact that the backup isn't exactly current; specifically it's pre-China, pre-merealizingImesseduptheBaltic. So no immediate update, but I can (AND WILL) start redoing those bits immediately.
