Perry's Ad

No no no no no!

I'm tired of people insisting that people can "pray the gay away" or that homosexuality is a choice! Please, let's save ourselves the hatred, and talk about the ad itself.

Fine, I won't. You don't have free will.

What are you trying to say?

The argument for acceptance of homosexuality is better rooted elsewhere. I recall mentioning this to you before.

What do people have against those who wish to become straight through therapy, and those who help them do it.

It is: Homophobic, nasty, it doesn't work and is a cruel way of forcing homosexuals to deny themselves.

No problem at all, but just because the therapy is out there does not mean that it should be seen as an excuse for bigotry. After all, I don't hold it against you that you are a heterosexual, though there may be therapy out there that can convert you to homosexuality. I don't ask you to keep your orientation to yourself.

It's demeaning. It's like saying that if you're gay, there's something wrong with you, like you are some freak with a disorder.

I hear the gays have a good programme for curing Christianity.

Kissing men in a park? Blimey. I hope they frown against that in the Bible.

I take it you have never talked to an ex-gay before then?

@ Manta Revan, no one is forcing them to join therapy groups, it's their choice.

Accepting bigotry towards gays by hiding behind the excuse that you can have therapy is like saying that Jim Crowe laws are o.k. because people can always make themselves white, like Micheal Jackson.

The question we have to ask is why there are people who want to become "straight again" in the first place.

Because religion, parts of the media and frankly bigoted, backwards views portray homosexuality as being "wrong" and this puts pressure on people who unfortunately are vulnerable and feel that they are "wrong" for something that they could not help or choose.

Therapy does not help this, therapy merely reinforces this belief.

Precisely.

I mean, there is a recision why LGBTers have a high rate of mental illness and suicide, CELTICEMPIRE.

Therapy is not the answer, tolerance and acceptance of LGBTers is, and untill then you'll see more LGBTers committing suicidem when they realise that they cannot change who they are, and that parts of society hate and fear them, for something that they could not control.

Yeah, what's wrong with all these men who claim they "love" Jesus?

Yet discriminating against LGBTers is perfectly fine? That's pretty inconsistent given neither race nor sexuality is a choice.

If homosexuality is not a choice, then it is a defect and we should be working towards curing it. :)

Moderator Action: If you are going to claim something is a defect, you should back your claim up with actual evidence in the post. Otherwise, you're just being a troll.

Awesome! :mischief:

So do you support eugenics in terms of homosexuals?

Also, I liked how you used the word "Curing" as if to imply it's akin to a disease.

*Cringe* Let you hope science does not march on, then.

I think it's been demonstrated by scientific studies that one's sexuality is, in large part, not a choice. Unless you had some other studies in mind? It's hardly unsubstantiated.
