Hey there, stories and tales forum...I've been lurking around these forums for ages and never posted anything at all. Anyway, I've finally joined the forums, and this is my first story. Note that this is a game from a while ago, (About a year, actually) and was basically just a "conquer the whole world" game. I played on the BtS earth 18 Civs map as Cyrus of Persia. The only two victory conditions I have in are conquest and domination.

I'm basically going to go for a complete conquest of all 18 Civs. Why as Persia? Well, aside from the Roman Praets, the Immortals are among the best UUs around in the early era. The fact that there is no Babylonia makes it easy to destroy the Arabs within a few turns and spread your culture across Mesopotamia/Levant/Anatolia, and eventually into Egypt.

Since this wasn't intended for posting originally, this will jump around a lot. This probably won't be high quality, but anyway, here goes:

The very first move I made was to rush three warriors and attack and conquer Mecca. The Arabians were destroyed within six turns. I founded Persepolis on the spot and then built the second city at the head of the Persian gulf.

Once the Arabian capital was under the control of Persia, peace reigned over the empire. Until the Egyptians founded a city, Heliopolis, across the Tigris in the Levant. By now, I had acquired Immortals, and soon Heliopolis was in Persian hands.

Oh, and I met the Mongols. Fun.

Jumping ahead about 200 years, I'm still at war with the Egyptians, besieging Thebes. Memphis has fallen, and I have a great general leading an Immortal. Note three more Immortals moving into the Levant. Egypt is a dangerous adversary, given their unique unit is roughly par to the Immortal. Still, they can't match my production, and they're ultimately doomed.

And just two turns later we're marching into Thebes with the Immortal horde. Two civs down, sixteen to go.

The Persian Empire, 500 BC. Just finished the Great Wall.

This concludes the first installment of my 18 Civs Conquest. All comments welcome. :)

I'm updating again. Within a half hour, too, because I have nothing else to do with my time, it seems.

Anyway, here goes.

275 BC. Persia is at war with Greece, who controls their path into Europe. In order to continue their march to victory, Greece must be brought down.

attachment.php

Corinth, in Anatolia, has fallen easily to the Immortals. The main army has left Corinth and is besieging Sparta now that Corinth is nearly pacified.

attachment.php

And Sparta falls as well to the unstoppable Immortal onslaught.

attachment.php

Using settler from Persepolis I've constructed another city, Susa, south of Mecca, and another north of Pasargadae, Ecbatana. The Persian Empire is flourishing but it remains to be seen if they can bring an end to the power of the Greeks. Their pathway into Europe has been opened through Sparta, but the city of Athens with its vital port remains up for the taking.

attachment.php

Fast forward to 400 AD, nearly six hundred years later, and Athens still remains out of Persian hands. The Greeks annihilated the Persian army with Phalanxes and forced them to retreat to Sparta. I've started a Golden Age as well.

I plan a war with India next. That city Pataliputra is much too close to Persia for my liking. I plan to take control of Delhi as well, if possible. For now, the Greeks remain too powerful to test in war, and with my power already so fragile in Europe I don't declare war again.

But Cyrus will not let this defeat go unavenged. They have not been defeated only forced into a strategic withdrawal. The Greeks will pay for this humiliation after the upstart Indians are quashed.

Forces under the command of the Great General Francesco Pizarro crush Pataliputra and continue on toward Delhi. We also capture a fast worker, which of course converts to a regular worker. Ah, well. They work just the same, for our purposes. :P

Delhi falls, and Pizzaro remains in the city until it is pacified.

attachment.php

As soon as Delhi is pacified and north India is firmly in the grip of Pizzaro (a few inconclusive border skirmishes wind up destroying the rest of the Immortal force sent with his Axemen, but Delhi is not recaptured by Indians), I declare war once again on the Greeks. This time, though, they are almost certainly doomed to fall.

This concludes installment two, ending in 720 AD. North India is under the control of the Persians, but Asoka refuses to make peace. Meanwhile, the Persian army is once again invading Greece.

Just some notes...

You would have been much more well off founding your capital 1 south, on the ivory; you would have access to the clams and be on the coast.

Heliopolis should have been razed and put in a better spot (1W or 1NW)

One of your Great Generals should have been made into a Medic 3

You should not have claimed so much land so quickly; you're taking a -9 gold deficit a turn at 40% research. It would have been wiser to simply take Arabia, Mesopotamia, and India alone until you tech Currency, Construction, and HBR. Then you could overrun Greece and Egypt (and their neighbors) with War Elephants and build Wealth in some of your cities to pick up the slack (along with building markets in your richer cities). With the riches of Mesopotamia and India, teching up to the sky wouldn't be difficult.

Exactly what I was thinking and I agree.

Do listen to them. You won't get anywhere with a crap economy and a suffering army

Also, 400th post.

you're taking a -9 gold deficit a turn at 40% research.

Now, if that was a -9 gold deficit at ZERO research, then I'd be worried. As long as he can reach currency in time, there's nothing bad with deficit at all.

There's nothing wrong with deficit, no, but overextending to 8 cities before the AD years is poor planning. And, in his last screenshot, he's running +0 at 0% research.
