PH06: One is the Loneliest Number!

nice turns Furrie, but i agree, those tech choices may've been :smoke: we had nothing more immediately useful?

ahh well, no big deal ~ we'll have some praets to have a chat with Alex about his wang...err...Wang Kon that is.

well, most other techs where 15+ turns, and I decided we could use some cheaper techs.
And don't we still have a shot at the Oracle?
Well, Archery doens't have anything to do with chariots, but as we are only defending with Warriors, Archery is always good to have.

Greyfox's hint says enough. The cheaper techs can easily be traded at some point once we acquire alphabet or if the AI does. I do find on warlords they go for that now a lot sooner so let them get it and trade for those low end techs. Karr I hope you change that as I want to fight with an army that has siege weapons and elephants since my turn is soon.

Hey FuRRie, if you're gonna play with GreyFox, you're gonna have to come up with better rationalizations than that! ::SNARF::

Nah, just kidding ... you done good. Cheap techs and archers is always a good thing.

Yes I see my friend they are powerful but lonely too. They like the company of siege and especially those big elephants. Just wondering then why do we need archery when have Praets.:p

No one will get near our cities with those guys. And of course Praets should have a few axes to keep them company too just in case as they don't do good against axes. (yep axes can be built with iron or copper)

yeah, it's one of my many flaws in Civ4, when I play Roman, I just Build Praets, strangely enough, that always works, even on higher difficulties :)

If it works then it isn't a flaw. Just a preference. I don't play Romans much as there are other civs I like playing. It just seems everybody has the same strategy with Romans - Praets.......

Which of course are the strongest unit in the early era and their use keeps going until maces. Although even with maces I have kept using them as cheaper to build than maces. I must admit I have gotten more into Augustus Caesar as I like his Organized/creative trait.

I usually choose my civ but sometimes randomize. Right now getting used to this new patch and ARGH!!!! Played a prince game and they were teching quite good but in the end flew past them like Vanilla and won. Again Prince even with patch is way too easy so back to Monarch and plan to stay there. Just have to play a bit differently and everythings going to be alright. OH YEAH......

Don't play emperor on my own simply just way too much MMing for me. I was reading about Pholk discussing how governors can be used to avoid that but I'm just too fussy as I find the governor doesn't assign specialist all that well. (too many times puts engineer or priests but rarely scientist.)

i've been having HUGE difficulties w/the new patch. I was playing on Monarch and was dismayed to discover the Bismarck was counterattacking my maces and knights w/cavs!!

I've since had to drop back to Prince!

Something is definitely up with this patch however I find Prince too easy. (sailed by on it in one game) What disturbs me is the AI is teching much faster and even little ones with like two cities. Eg. Ragnar was very small with one good city and two crappy ones but yet he managed to keep pace with my teching and I was mighty Rome with a city with five scientists and another with four and many other specialist running Representation. I had also taken Cyrus's cities which both were GP farms. I did manage to surpass them all as I don't know why but they all went to US for some reason. (this was a prince game)

It was a an easy space victory around 1900 and could have gone for domination as Stalin the main aggressor had stacks and stacks but all old technology. I tried a monarch game and before I could even get close to alphabet they all had it and well it felt like they were laughing at me.

I think city position is everything and making friends to trade aggressively but we have to adopt new ways of playing to adapt to this new patch. Be interesting to see what happens in our war game Mag Seven. Kind of sucks though getting used to one type of level and then having to go back. ARGH..

I'm havind a somewhat harder time with the patch, I played 2 Prince games with the patch which I Won, so I went back to Emperor, won al my games but some were just to freaking close!

Opps ... my two innocent questions seems to cause a splash ...

@Furrie: I hope you don't mind, those who played with me often enough get used to my grumpy nature ... I just sincerely believe that through questioning each other's decision, we can all progress much better.

I think Arhcery is necessary, but not crucial. We are not in always war, so the AI will attack when we declare war. So ideally, we should research construction, build those cats while reseraching archery. Once we declare, w ehave ample surprise element to build couple of archery each.

Mediation, OTOH, I don't understand :p

Anyway, who's up? Karr?

PT - Veto meditation in favor of construction. We need to hurl giant rocks on people and no priests or temples.

For 8 turns I didn't really have anything to report. I built some improvements and some units when suddenly the horn sounds:

:run: (I always wanted to use that smiley)

That was on my 9th turn. Here is the stack he brought in:

I brought the settler and chariot from the future city spot back into our borders and whipped 1 praet in Antium.

T10 - Our goldmine got pillaged so I whip away the unhappiness in Rome and bring some troops in position.

If we get rid of the axeman on top of his stack the 3 chariots are fodder to spearman and praets alike.

I hope the next player can fight back a little and maybe start an offensive. His stack is nothing to be afraid of especially with praets. :satan:

Oh goody I'm up just in time for some warring. I love going after Alex. He is just a psycho like Monty that needs a good Roman lesson. Let history repeat itself Greece will become our slave state. This is I got btw and going to have fun with the Praets. Good call on changing to construction thank you.

that IS an intriguing mod! good eyes, Karr ~ and nice job on responding to that vile man! He surely is trying to force himself on us! Well, we'll show him!!
