instead of a move by move log i will summarize...

not much action this turn set. built several swords. noticed toku has a few chariots. he declared war on wang. currently he is only pillaging wang with chariots. to help us i started building phalanx. also noticed although the gold around athens was mined, it was not hooked up. since growth was happiness was capped, preventing growth, i turned avoid growth off. next player will want to turn it back on after cities grow to 5 (6 in athens). also noticed we had no specialists in athens. i added one scientist. parthenon was BIDL. per discussion checked trade market.

wang is sending a settler north. been following, and at end turnset is this area...

we did get lit and started horsback riding...

we have a settler in the forest just south of sparta. need to decide if we want to plant another city & where. i was thinking in this area... maybe 1 west of gold hill...before we set out grab units from sparta to join...

I make some trades with Louis hoping to calm it (he is cautious and very high power)
and convert to judaism for same reason

I make peace with togu, we need cats

Louis ask stopping trade with Korea. I agree

We should be able to handle what he send us so far. However we were already so weak that if we survive, we will not be playing anymore the variant.

i think it's obvious i am not at monarch level yet. my sincerest apologies. i normally play a cottage economy on prince and win most of the time. i have begun using a specialist economy, and win about 50% of the time. but i have yet to make the jump to monarch; at least with a victory.

@ Codeman: don't worry about it. I'm still a newbie with teh spec economy, too, so luckily your before someone who kind of know what he's doing, and before 2 others who certainly do though, HBR before Constr

@ Lukep: good going with the quick and limited war. What variant would we be breaking, though, if we won the war? As long as we're running a specialist economy we're w/in the variant.

Variant Settings: NO COTTAGES. [Obviously, if there's no source of water nearby, we *can* use cottages, but they must be farmed over as soon as Civil Service is discovered. Also, if we conquer a city with cottages, farms must be laid down everywhere possible as soon as possible.]

@ Warpoo: if you can grab it now, go ahead and play. I'm going to grab the save and take a peek around.

I would certainly got similar ones if i played a SG with people stronger than me.

What i mean is that we are in survival mode, and will likely be for some rounds. This is no more a SE. It is still an interesting catch-up if we can survive.

I would advise each player to survey closely diplomacy. In case of any doubt, please come discuss about it here. Be very careful with trades if we have an any opportunity.

I did convert to Judaism expecting to calm Louis. We should think of going in no-state or buddhism if we can so that Peter dont dogpile on us.

I would be in favor of a restart. Not because I think the game is unwinnable (though it would be a long, ugly struggle), but because we will spend all of our time/energy on survival, and not on learning how to use the SE properly - which is the point of this game (for me, anyway).

Since I'm up, after all the swaps, I'll wait for the group consensus before I play anything. Let's hear from everyone. I can take the last save and continue, or roll a new start.

i would i have lost everything, he had four longbows and he kept attacking me with stacks of units every other turn.

anything but standard. I love marathon. i just dont like my units going out of date by the time i get to the battle field and have the AI rebuild while im attacking them.
