PH14: The Return of the King

    Played three techs; MC->IW->Compass

    I connected Silver, had some cities grow (one city a bit too much but it is building forge so the :mad: will only last a few turns from now)... Also settled the new city, Conf spread after two turns or so, so I changed from Monument to Gran.

    Connected northwestern pigs (wtf guys:p), and made a lot of road in general... Some screenies...:


    Clams (originally protected by a galley) got killed by barb galley (mouseovered).



    We have Iron, next player should probably link it up...

    And before our first Forge is up:


    Great! But wait, it gets wooorse...



    That event tells me I'm missing something since I did not notice them making peace (otoh Qin got a GG earlier so it had to be in my turnset... Duh).



    Guessing the function of the galley with axe stationed in Washington, here is what the fleet looks like at the end of the turnset. I also built a couple of Triremes to clear out the barbs. As you see here, just after I saved. ShwPaya is biafal:

    I like Machinery->Eng for maces and trebs, then rolling over hatty. Pump out cats for now, when we get machinery pump out maces and then add a few trebs at the end.

    This is all w/o looking at the save, so it may be missing something practical.

    OK, here my plan for this turnset:

    Going for Machinery->Eng
    Building some maces
    Getting this barb city
    Starting to collect some prophet-points in Phili

    Will start in 2-3 hours, so hurry with comments!

    So here we go..

    IBT:
    Positioned our troops next to Khazak and made with this deal:

    In 700 AD the barbcity finally fell without any losses:

    The remained Archer, who went or San Fransisco returned to Khazak but was defeated in 730 AD. After Christianity spread to Phili I whiped the forge and started to build the fist temple..
    In 760 we got a GS in Wash and Qin came to us and asked to cancel our deals with Hatty. I accepted..

    In 775 we got another source of copper next to Coldlanta..
    And once again some slaves got really unhappy in NY..

    After we finished Machinery in 805 maces got started in NY and Washington and to keep since rate at acceptable level I sold Mono to Qin for 130..
    Finally in 820 our northern island got freed from those annoying barb galleys.
    We had quite a good time till 890.. We connected our iron, spread our religion and managed to build our first mace. But it became even better:

    I declined, 'course our forces are yet not strong enough.
    Qin even changed religion to Hatty's.. Not good at all. But they're still at war and Hatty managed to conquer one of Qin's city.. So we really need to hurry!
    I finished after getting to Eng..

    So for our next turnset we need to discuss whether to settle the GS from 760 or to bulb paper.. And I switched to drama, 'cause Hatty's going for Musik but starting Drama right now would beat Hatty to Musik.. So worth to think about this too!

    Mea culpa.

    Posting from work:)nono:) so haven't loaded the save yet.

    Looking through the last few posts we've researched currency > maths > philo (bulb) > CS > construction > MC > IW > compass > machinery > eng.

    Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like we don't have a coherent tech path or really a very coherent game plan.

    Its 'only' monarch (and without any variants) so we'll probably bumble our way to victory in the end but it feels a bit messy.

    You may be right in both.. But at least we decided to go for Hatty and that we're gonna do this soon.. But nonetheless we really should discuss how to go on in a bit more distant future..

    Maybe build some trebs, move curent units towards Hatty and assemble some kind of stack.

    Played eleven turns. More perambulations around the tech table.

    930.
    Noticed that the GS would bulb optics so he did. Started a caravel in New York.
    Decided to race Hatty for music and a free Artist.
    Started a couple of trebs. Units heading east.

    960.
    Hats completes (Christian)AP and gets elected resident (we voted for Qin).
    Qin meanwhile captures Byblos.

    970.
    New York's caravel heads west.
    Revolt to Bureaucracy.

    990.
    The Best Defence Quest: build 7 castles.

    1010.
    Bit bored so declare on Hats.

    1020.
    Capture Hierancopolis without losses.

    1030.
    Meet Pericles.

    1040.
    Meet Sally and Hammy.
    Finish Music.

    But they don't seem to be getting on very well with each other!

    I think that we need to whip pholk out :p REVOLUTION.... ;)

    Anyway, we need to put this running again... so I think I can pick it tomorrow ( if I play my SGOTM today )

    Since pholk is out, we might even start having a decent plan , no? ;)

    So a short resume:

    We're in war with Hatty, Paper in 12 , -4 gpt @ 100% cash ( 80 coins on the bag ). GP in washington in 8 turns .

    Military stance:

    The main egyptian force is in Pi-Ramesses....

    I propose to lead our main stack to Elephantine and then to Menphis our secondary stack that is being built in Coldlanta to clean the Pi-Ramesses army and then to join the main stack later.

    Other issue is that we can't push the military buildup much longer if we continue to lose money :p Ideas to end the income crisis ( bailouts not included ) ?

    Sounds like a plan!! :p But nonetheless I'd prefer raising most of the cities instead of keeping them, 'cause we won't be able to pay Hatties empire as well..
    In case we're going to keep Hatties cities, we should think about trading for feuda with Perikles (he'd give it away for Lit and Mach) to vassalize Hatty..

    I'd rather destroy her to settle her land later on, but I'm not sure whether our forces are able to conquer whole egypt.

    I'd purpose stoping military buildup in Washington, NY and LA to whip some courts and market, 'cause theire treb will reach the front too late anyway. And we should build some more temples to grow our cities to get some more titles worked!!

    I would prefer that we worked tiles instead of whipping. Most certainly in cities that have developed tiles at their disposal. We could cover a good chunk of the maintenance by working commerce tiles in those cities, per example.

    Well, that courthouse that is almost built in Boston will help at short run, but if we continue to engulf egyptian cities and making units, the thing might crash down.....

    Well, we'll see when i play ( will try to play today, but the SGOTM sets take a lot of time )

    One option is to switch back to caste, run artists in newly captured cities to pop borders, run merchants in established cities instead of working mines. Definitely finish off the current treb builds: wars always take longer than expected and you always run low on seige. With rep all specialists get the beaker bonus.
