Pharaoh

That's odd, I'm actually God and I don't remember that conversation.

I must have been out of body at the time.

But Metahu Thah, Metahu the God's chosen! There will be a monument.

But it shall be built in the capital of Egypt, which you don't control, yet. But your time shall come Metahu, your time shall come. Chosen of the Gods, I shall be back!

Scribes, make a note of this. They say keep your friends close, and your son-in-laws closer.

Pawelo, your in. Throne room advice at the moment, but governor positions are coming up all the time. You know, son-in-laws have chariot accidents sometimes.

You didn't suppose to know! :mischief:

:goodjob:

Anyway, that was basically my advise. build a wonder, build city in gold + corn! The Gods demand! :)

No, I am not infidel on my Pharaoh! It is just that... Well, I never saw him vanish in thin air!

By the way, build the great-wall might be counter-productive, but very funny when you use the Great Spy in a enemy and all the governors try to steal a different tech with their own spies(i.e. built in their city!)! CHAOS!

By the way, it might be wise to rename all the units no? Units built in one city gets the name of the city in front, right? hehe

:worship:

pawa-ra will stay away from the wheeled machines, and while inside the throne room, he will always try to keep Metahu or Slobahothep between him and the crocodiles

Slobahotep, a third cousin of the Pharaoh, returns to the Palace from a hunting expedition and bows low.

"The hunt went well, Mighty Pharaoh. The largest antelopes for your household and the Gods," he said, as a servants presented the beasts. "The land is wide and open for the settlement by your people, Pharaoh. We must take what is ours before the other tribes move there."

"If it is your divine wish, let us build a city to the east, just beyond the desert. There is fresh water, wild corn to be harvested, and ... gold! Gold for the glory of Pharaoh, for the gods, and for Egypt!"

"It is also a place of canyons and deserts, where the tombs of generations of Pharaohs may be hidden from thieves and defilers. It would be a Valley of Kings, Pharaoh."

He bowed again and returned to his household.

"Victshupset, my lovely wife. Have the servants prepare our belongings. We soon travel east!"

___

I would like to settle in the desert tile one tile north of the gold, next to the oasis. I want to name it "Valley of Kings."

Here is a proposed usage for that city:

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0017.JPG

F = farm, C = cottage, M = mine, W = windmill (eventually!), and the brown lines are roads.

Of course, if we find copper, horses, or iron before we settle, I may want to tweak that. :p

As far as Thebes goes, I suggest that Pharaoh build Stonehenge, a warrior, a settler, a warrior, a settler, then the mighty Pyramids. We will need BW at some point to chop the trees to build the Pyramids and farm the grassland.

Why 1N of the gold? I can't see the save right now, so maybe I missed something, but by the screenshot(which is not very good) there is too many deserts there, and we probably won't be placing a city south of Paris anyway, so why not get those grasslands east around the corn?
1E of gold perhaps? I gotta see the save anyway first hehe.

I edited the post to show a proposed dotmap of the city.

By settling on the desert, you make it usable. Also, you get fresh water by being near the floodplains, allowing irrigation through the city tile to the eastern grasslands once Civil Service is discovered. Also, by not settling on a grassland or plain, you get to work that tile with a farm or cottage. Believe it or not, the tile I suggest has the same number of grasslands as any other tile that gets the gold and corn. Notice the two grassland tiles in the upper left of my city's BFC. After Civil Service, all of the cottages could be farmed and the plains forest farmed too.

This city could grow to size 12 before Civil Service. With CS, it could grow to 16. With Biology + CS, it could grow to size 21 and support 7 specialists -- or size 18 with 4 plains cottages and 4 specialists, if I'm counting right.

I'm not too worried about coastal access, unless Pharaoh decrees that we shall connect the cities by Sailing. Frankly, Thebes looks like a great place to build the coastal wonders.

I get your point, but what about 1S of desert? I think I prefer a coastal city rather than a city with many deserts! Ah, I wish I could look at the save right now hehe.

1S of desert?

The tile I suggested is the only one that gets fresh water, the corn, and the gold. It is the only site that can chain irrigation to the eastern grasslands.

I'm willing to give up harbors in exchange for irrigated farms. The fresh water health bonus offsets whatever we'd get from harbors + seafood, too.

ups, I meant 1S of corn!

Sorry!

By the time CS kicks in, the border of our empire will be over there anyway, and we can do irrigation anyway...Or not?

Why is the workboat just sitting in the capitol? We should be heading for BW instead of AH if nothing else but for the ability to chop....we need that worker to chop out another worker and a settler. I know AH unlocks our UU, but chopping early can be the difference of getting the mids or not.

After the worker, I would send him in the forest and build a road towards the stone....if he doesnt, he will waste a turn on the way back. I normally would head into that forest...chop it and then improve the stone, but we cant chop yet.

Notice the cows at Paris?...if he sends a worker there and you can take it...he cant retaliate...nice

Depending on the situation, I might even build Stonehenge before the settler....might give us a better dotmap and allows for growth in the capitol.....but Im fine with either decision. If you start on Mysticism now and build a warrior after the worker, the the stone should be hooked up just after the warrior is completed which will make Stonehenge around 11 turns or so.

As for the placement of the 3rd city....my city...I like Gandhi"s capitol....it looks like a good Wall Street.

Our scout gets into a very hard place

hard_place.JPG

Gold, gems, bears and panthers . He has movement so he gets out of there OK. There is a lot of wealth in this land.

Then look who he meets

cyrus.JPG

and..

gilagamesh.JPG

The spitting image of my twin daughters.

You know what this means. There's plenty of land to grab if we decide to do so.

We learn Animal husbandry but have no horses to husband. They are way up here near France.

So we search for metals. BW in, and looky here

copper.JPG

That might alter Slobahotep's placement.

The monument to me is coming along nicely

city_screen.JPG

It's nearly done

And Lo and behold

Happiness and options for the new city govs.

2 Governors request Stonehenge to make their borders expand quicker. It's a good idea .

stonehenge.JPG

No shortage of monuments. On to the settlers. My workers chopped 2 major forests. And mined the hills. The capital needs more food.

Here's the land nearby

slob_s_map.JPG

Further north

Gov Sloberhotep. Send your final orders. Settler in 1 turn.

Also we have this choice to make

techs.JPG

and Cyrus asked for Open borders.

Tech and diplomacy advice from the entire throne room please . Thats Slobhotep, Cabledawg, Mehatu, rolo and pawelo.

"Aim for Priesthood your highness - it will allow us to get this future-guessing monument for you. And your choices will be at best accuracy." whispers pawelo to the pharaoh's ear.

"Let Cyrus come and admire your greatness through this pointy monument to your glory"

Pawelo retreats to his shadow corner of the throne room, far from the crocs.

My resolve is unchanged, Pharoah -- please settle Valley of Kings one tile north of the gold to the east. I sense that our future will be decided there. Give the word, and Vickshepsut and I can settle there and raise our beautiful daughters amongst the golden canyons and fields of maize.

Perhaps your mighty third city can be situated to mine the metal.

May I humbly suggest the scribes research the ways of organized Hunting and Archery. Such trifling things would take little time and add to our defenses while the metals are acquired.

Updated possible dotmap:

Civ4ScreenShot0005.JPG

*EDIT* (out of character) looked at the save ... we need to settle the gold, copper, and horse cities ASAP ... I still think gold first, though.

"I agree with pawelo.... ( but if it goes wrong, youshould send him ( and not me... :p ) to the holy crocs )

We don't know well our neighbours, oh Mice, son of Ra, first of his name, and there is still a lot of land to settle ( and to give to your loyal servants ;) ), so we should not antagonize them too much. But that small one with funny accent looks suspicious to me, Oh Beloved of Isis... We shoud stop him from expading and block him the nicer spots... And I'm sure that some of us that are in here serving you would be willing to make the sacrifice of governing his cities in your name....
We should have some Holy men in every city.... Ra would be pleased and they would help our scribes to gather knowledge before we can get some of that new buildings to gather papyrus roles, now that we have the Great gold -topped mountain... Maybe Ra will bless us with a Great priest that would help us greatly..."

Ok, plain CivFanatics english  :

Choke napoleon and do not OB to him. Run Rep and priests, atleast until we have libraries....

Go to Priesthood and try Oracle... Maybe CoL out of it?

The governor's decision is final about where they decide to take their ancestral family and build a dynasty.

Valley of Kings was founded in BC 952

The city miraculously erects an Obelisk ! An auspicious omen.

A granary was started until orders come form the governor as to what to build. Tiles worked will follow the plan already given when workers arrive, soon.

A settler is on the way in Thebes. Governor Cabledawg, scan the horizon. (and see earlier post for wider view of the land)

overveiw.JPG

Throne room advice on the Oracle is moot, as another civilisation built it.

oracle_doh.png

But good council will be acted on and Priesthood will be researched soon, for priests.

Gilgamesh would like to open borders. Based on advice I open them.

gilgamob.png

In view of the placing of our great new city, research was diverted to hunting and archery in case we see barbarians coming in from the desert.

"The little one with funny accent was not blessed with talented counselmen by the gods like you were, Oh mighty Pharaoh  ... Look where he founded his city  The gods smiled upon us"

We have two options for the next city: the safe one in the slobberinbear blue spot ( not a bad city... ) or to be bold and try to choke Nappy settling in the horse spot ( he doesn't have cooper or horses, so the worst it can happen is Nappy spit archers..... )

Sloberhotep ! ( edited post was not seen til too late !)

The messenger sent with revised founding site was intercepted and waylayed by a travelling band of magicians and court dancers.

"Bah! The stinking French arrived to the east! Even now they seize the Pharaoh's corn! This must be rectified!"

Pharaoh, I ask the following be built:

1. please rename the city to "Valley of Kings" (it should fit).
2. please build the granary until VoK reaches size 2, then switch to a worker.
3. whip the worker when you are able.
4. finish the granary, then build a library. Whip the library to completion.
5. build the best defensive military unit available.

Please task the worker(s) in the following order:
1. mine/road the gold
2. farm/road the corn, if within borders
3. chop/farm the forest/grassland 2S of VoK
4. farm the grassland 2W of VoK
5. chop/mine the plains/hill/forest 1NE of VoK

Please use our citizens to work the tiles in this order:
1. Oasis
2. Gold Mine
3. Corn or Grassland Farm (2S)
4. Grassland Farm (2W)
5. Plains/Hill Mine

*EDIT* (I am hoping the monument + library will get us the corn tile before Nappy can get any culture going. Of course, if Pharaoh were to research Monotheism and get us a religion, VoK would likely be the holy city, and the culture would flow like water.)
