Pharaoh

Judaism has been founded n a distant land. We got the news just as VoK was founded. A religion will help your city We have open borders with two neighbors.
council needed on religion form my advisors.

If a religion comes into our land, should we accept it?

Gov Slobahotep, your build orders will be executed. I like that word.. "executed"

The second city is absolutely the worst decision for placing a city. Once you found out where copper was, why settle on that useless patch of land near the french.

You find copper....its close to capitol, and you settle there.....I dont understand the decision to settle where you are after you found where copper was. Now, youre researching Archery? We wouldnt need archery if we had copper. And why build the mids before getting a settler out.

Maybe Im not getting something here. Did anyone read my last post?

Yes, I read it. All those things were enacted.

In history things don't always go like an optimal SG. I like the new city. It's a real valley of the Kings. In a desert.

We can take the food resource from the French with axes built in your city.

Governor Cabledawg. Your settler is nearly ready. Where to put him ?

Dawg, I've read your posts before, and I have nothing but respect for you. That said, lighten up.

Mice made it clear that he's the Pharaoh and we are allowed to give input. Obviously, there will be some decisions he makes on the fly to account for the real situation. I told him where I wanted my city -- of course, I didn't know that Napoleon would settle near there before we got there. But Mice is confident that we can out-culture Nappy or take out the offending city. Would I have settled there had I seen Nappy's city? I'm not sure. Given that we have Stonehenge and can crank out a library pretty quickly, it may turn out just fine.

I have already stated the reasons why I wanted the city there. Getting the gold online is key for extra commerce, happiness, and research. I felt the corn and oasis made that city viable. You don't have to live with my decision -- I do. And now you'll have the luxury of taking a good site for yourself, either the copper or the horse city. Even if you hate my decision, you have to admit that it has blocked France and will allow the copper city to grow in peace.

Look at it this way -- by taking the city near ours, Nappy didn't take the horses. That frees us up to run and get it first, hopefully.

Relax and have fun with it.

Yes, I think this is right. we can still make a grab for the horses, after copper.

but that's up to the govs.

Good advice.

Cabledawg, pick your city site.

BTW I'll edit the latest save into the first post so people can check it there to save scroling through the thread.

The best spot i see for the copper is 1N of the wheat. It gains a grassland hill and loses 3 desert tiles. It can also use the stone if and when the capitol is running specialist. An argument can be made for 1SE of the wheat as it gets a fresh water bonus....that spot gains deer, but loses sheep.

As far as builds go, build 3 axes to defend our cities, whip a granary if we have pottery, then barracks.

Actually, you cant start the axes till the mine is done and roaded...so start a granary and whip to completion...then axes...or if the capitol provides archers and you have time for a Barracks first, then do that.

God's Will

Metahu Thah walks in a hurried manner through the palace, as he was summoned by the Pharaoh to his private chambers, <insert joke here>, and with the Pharaoh, faster is never fast enough.
He then just turns a corner and hit on someone and fall.

"What in the name of R..
"Metahu Thah, don't you recognize your own God when you see it?"

Oh that voice again, so sublime! So frightening.
Metahu looks up to the robbed figure and immediately goes to his knees.

"Oh great Lord, forgive an old fool's offense!"
..
<silence>
..
"Metahu Thah, you pleased me in doing what I ordered you. Yes, you did."

"It wasn't hard, my Lord"

"Do never depreciate your own acts Metahu, never. Now I do have another ... Mission for you. Do you want to fulfill it?"

"Ye- yes my Lord"

"Very well. I heard your ... Pharaoh ... do want that creature called horses as fast as possible, no?"

"Ye-"

"I think he has his mind set to get it peacefully, and I don't think a mere mortal like you can change his mind, but you shall try anyway. Try, and convince him that there is no need to get it peacefully, when the heretic and pitifully peaceful that calls himself the Indian leader has it. He insults us with his weak military power, and his pathetic choice of color! PINK?!? In my own name, I declare him NOT to be worthy living, DO YOU UNDERSTAND METAHU?? "

"Yes my Lord"

"But shall you fail on this mission, then you must convince him that Napoleon shall be destroyed! I see nothing but betrayal in my mind when I think of this man, and as sooner as this man dies, the safer you shall be, understand?

"Yes, my Lor-"

" Go now Metahu Thah, and make your true Gods happy!"

And so he vanished again.

Now really, we will have copper soon, and Gandhi has horses, shouldn't we axerush him fast? He never has a big garrison anyway.

But I do understand that France has to be conquered ASAP as well, so we may try also to settle the horse spot and rush France?

By the way, I want some explanation about some rules of the game!
We shall use only the units that were built in our own cities? And when are we going to stop settling/conquering cities to new governors and get more cities to the old governors? And how will it work? You decide which city goes to whom, or if the settler is from my city, then the settled city is mine and if the stack is from my city, then the conquered city is mine?

And you can overwrite our orders, can't you?

How are we going to war anyway? Together, or each city with it's own stack?

Sorry for so many questions, just want to understand! :)

Hakizamanabag II., you're summoned to the Throne room.

Give good council and you may be rewarded with a city, or even a province.

Metahu Thah, trusted governor , you will have a settler to place very soon.

Cabledawg's city is to be founded very soon and you are next in line.

We can have horses for chariots by settling in the North , or by taking them from the Indian as you said. The decision will be yours.

My thoughts on the matter , axe rush India? Well, I think Napoleon will have something to say about us before long. We may be too occupied.

Save coming soon with Cabledawg city.

Yes, bu that is a very good city. And I don't think Gandhi will cause much problems hehe. We gotta see how is the situation of the defenses of Gandhi then. Do we have OB with him?

Good to ask the questions.
Actually I'm trying to work it out as we go along.
It's not easy or simple, but I think it could turn into an interesting way to play if we come up with alternative ideas.

At the moment my thinking about the rules is ; If we go to war we have to fight with all the units in the empire, not city's stacks. I plan to give the empire over to one of the advisors, a military advisor, who will conduct the war . 15 turns or so, and then he passes the save on to another advisor.

This way other players get to have some fun. I dont want to control everything, I'm just trying to find another way to play.

When the war is resolved we divide up the land we got.

Here it could go 2 ways. The original governors get new second cities to start to build a province, or , we give new players a city.

I'm thinking 2 cities each maybe 3 and then increase the number of governors.

I'm going to close the roster so we 3 governors and 3 advisors.

Governors get 2 cities then we include the Throne room advisors (rolo1, pawelo,50_dollar) as new governors.

In the event of war I would like r_rolo1 to take the save first and conduct the first 15 turns of war.

OK, that answers a lot! :)

And about settlers/workers?

And shouldn't we rename military units each time they are built to cary the name of their cities? So we can have some funny things, like alot of units froom one province dies a lot with high odds in a war, or can't hold a city for us(i.e. AI conquer that city), or a unit do some pretty nice heroic things, and the pharaoh can punish/reward the province of this units? Sounds fun! :crazyeye:

EDIT
: Like gifiting the best conquered city to the province with the best army, and etc!

Pawelo steps out of his shadow alcove and bow before the godsend.

"Oh pharaoh, please listen to my advice, as I object to governor Metahu Thah's advice on your first, hmm, object of divine interest. Having heard numerous tales by foreign travellers, everyone seems to agree on a peaceful and religious nature of our pink neighbor. Therefore, my advice is as follows: let the peaceful Gandhi flowerish his so-called religion, build a pathetic (in comparison to Your highness pointy stone structure) holy shrine to his bouddha-something deity, and then come over with our war machines to march over his lightly defended folk. This way, we shall take profit from those pagan people for more monuments to your glory. You could even use their gods to your holy quest to pacify our world.
On the other hand, our frog & smelly cheese-eating neighbor grows in force if we let him, and will be very difficult to match if left for too long"

Having said this, Pawelo listens to Pharaoh's whispers and both vanish - the latter in thin air to consult Gods, the former to his shadowy alcove.

---

In clear text: leave Gandhi go wonder and religion crazy, and take him after Napoleon, once he has his shrine up and religion well spread.

Napoleon is a very hard match if left for later. And Paris would be such a nice provence ;)

Matters not! All I want is my capitol!

Ehm, I meant, not bad ideas!

Pawelo your advice is sound. You are officially the Throne room foreign affairs advisor. i need a decision on religion soon as you will see. This means I listen to all advisors, but the foreign affairs advisor has a lot of clout.

Metahu, Good idea to name the units. I think it's good. I will send plenty of defending units from the capital. Other units that you make, name and they might bring extra glory. ( the unit that actually takes the city claims it ? It's crazy enough to actually work.) We will see how our first war goes.

This is a good idea.

Settlers and workers? I'll make those too, but you can make new ones. As I said, if you build a settler, you definitely get to keep the city. Just order me to cue up a settler.

Metahu, your settler in a few turns away, ...

Spoiler :

Sloberhotep will be pleased. The culture in Valley of Kings has extented out to the wheat. The population in this city will rise quickly.

(image coming)

As ordered, the city switched to a worker at pop 2. No whip yet. You have an archer courtesy of the Pharaoh for protection.

Cabledawg founded Memphis 1N of the wheat as ordered.

memphis.JPG

A granary was started until other orders come in. Thebes built a worker to help work the resources in this rich city, and to road to the gold in Valley of Kings.

An Great engineer Imhotep is born in Thebes inspired by the Pyramids.

I opened borders with all other civs. Our scout sees a sword in France. He has metal, but I no copper, that means he has iron.

I teched to Alphabet in spite of advice to go to Priesthood. No excuse, I just became confused and forgot. Even immortals are fallible.

Buddhism
comes to our land. I need a decision from the advisors, yes or no to this religion.
Here is the religious make up of the land

Here's the view Metahu. Your settler is a few turns away. Tell me where.

I need ; -an urgent decision on the religion , (from any advisors or governors with Pawelo - foriegn advisor's advice most cherished)

-City site from Metahu

Great Pharaoh -- should we turn our backs on our ancestors and worship false gods, when our population is happy under your benign rule? No, my Lord! Let us found our own Religion, codifying our own beliefs!

By your will and Osiris' guidance, the French border has retreated from our sacred land! But it may yet return. Do not stay your hand, sire ... we must use slave labor to ensure the encroachment ends forever. (please whip the worker, finish the granary, then start a library, then whip that -- oh, and change the name to "Valley of Kings" ... thanks!!)

The French have yet to claim the fertile Nile (central river site)! Surely Metahu should lead our people there.

My fellow Slobbathep sounds wise to me regarding false beliefs. I do propose the same path, we shall found our beliefs and let them spread over the infidels. Foreign beliefs we shall use to raise founds necessary to our understanding of the surrounding world and our voluntary campaigns pacifying all the people refusing to hear to our rule.

Foregn religions are out of question! What happens to ours 1001 Gods-of-everything-with-very-strange-names-and-even-more-strange-apparency?!!?!?

<looking at save to decide city-site>

And if it is not optimal, excuse me, but I want to roleplay a bit too! xD

Argh, do we really need horses? :crazyeye:

So many good spots that shall be lost because of the horse...

Ah well, if we do need horse, then maybe 2W of horse? Or 1E of rice?

EDIT: I guess 1E of rice is better?
