Pizza!

I once had a group of people over for D&D and we opted for a pizza supper. My grandmother and I made the pizzas, and it was a challenge - one person was allergic to cheese, and another loved it, so I ended up making 3 pizzas: one with lots and lots of cheese, one with no cheese but lots of fruit and pepperoni, and one with what I normally used (shrimp, mushrooms, pepperoni, pineapple, mozzarella, and parmesan). BTW: Christmas oranges baked with parmesan cheese is pretty darn tasty!

My favorite is Hawaiian Pizza. It's great.

Some of the replies in this thread scare me. Pizza Hut? Papa Johns? Have you people never actually been to an Italian restaurant in your life?

Anyway....

What is your favorite pizza style?

Thin crust (Italian) definitely.

What is your favorite pizza restaurant?

Best I've ever been to is a little place on Kingston high street. Forget the name. Not sure if it even exists anymore - don't recognise any of the places Google brings up as it. Of the major chains, Pizza Express is way way ahead of the others.

What are your favorite toppings?

Parma ham, though as this often doesn't appear, I tend to go for the meat feast type.

What is your favorite frozen pizza?

Some of the Dr. Oetker (sp?) ones are pretty good - arguably as nice as most takeaways - especially when they're on 2 for £3.50 or even cheaper sometimes. Ristorante is probably my favourite range.

How do you like to prepare pizza when you make it homemade?

I don't - too much hassle.

How much are you willing to spend on a good pie?

Not quite sure what this has to do with pizzas. I mean, I love pie, but it's a completely different thing. If you mean how much would I pay for a pizza, I guess similar to what I'd pay for any other meal - £2-3 for a frozen one, £6-8 for a takeaway/delivery, £10-12 at a proper restaurant.

PhroX voices my thoughts exactly. Papa Johns is possibly the single worst pizza chain in existence, and Pizza Hut is meh. Their wings are better than their pizza.

Pie is another word for pizza, aka pizza pie. :p

Homemade pizza is incredibly easy to make, btw, so long as you buy the ingredients and don't make them from scratch.

Wut?

Nothing alike. Silly Americans :p

What is your favorite pizza style?
Thin. Had Chicago-style once, wasn't impressed.

What is your favorite pizza restaurant?
No preference, most Italian pizza restaurants are pretty similar and decent. Making a pizza is not that difficult. Pizza chains are horrible and should be avoided at all cost

What are your favorite toppings?
Chorizo, bell pepper, spices, onions.

What is your favorite frozen pizza?
No clear preference, most house brand pizza's at a supermarket are similar and edible. Frozen pizza is a bit of a last resort meal.

How do you like to prepare pizza when you make it homemade?
Frozen supermarket bought dough (thin square slices), cans of tomato paste on top, then onions, bell pepper, tomato, some more vegetables and optionally some meat on top. Then cheese.

How much are you willing to spend on a good pie?
Frozen: Maybe €3
Restaurant €7-€10 (I aim for restaurants where the margaritha is < €7).

You've honestly never heard the expression "Pizza pie"?. Whilst I'm agreement that it's both silly and superfluous and that yeah....Americans lol....I'm surprised it's new to you.

I'm not defending the phrase itself, but as rugbyLEAGUEfan says, it's a real thing dudes.

_________

So what I'm getting from this thread is everyone is too pretentious to admit reality:

We'd all be happy to scarf down a $3 Wal Mart pizza after we've had a few. :p

________

Is margaritha the same as the frozen alcoholic drink margarita?

Guilty as charged Hobbs, and in a thread which such varied opinions this may be the only thing that will remain unchallenged.

Incidentally I had a pizza pie tonight with a few beers and the footy. Went for a straight pepperoni with extra cheese. Nil flora.

Sounds like you had quite the night!

It was so epic you had to tell us about it twice. :p

I'd heard the phrase, I just assumed it referred to something else. I dunno, some other kind of food maybe (halfway between the two perhaps?). Didn't realise anyone would be stupid enough to unnecessarily lengthen "pizza" by adding a completely different type of food to the name....

The american-type pizzas i had eaten were not good though. Pizza hut and Dominos have a small presence in this city, iirc i ate one from PH.

Pizza Hut and Dominos are pedestrian swill. No true American pizza lover would be caught anywhere near one. Sadly, like most culinary exports from the USA, they're more representative of industrial efficiency than good food.

My father grew up in a predominantly Italian-American neighborhood in Trenton, NJ, and at the time they referred to pizza as a "tomato pie". Even when I was growing up there you'd occasionally hear the term, though it's likely since fallen into disuse.

I for one am relived and excited so many people in this thread know of the mouth-watering goodness that are anchovies :goodjob:.

I like all sorts of canned fish but sadly anchovies aren't one of them. They are far too salty for my tastes.
