I see people discussing poker sometimes, usually in the context of: 'I wish I could play you in poker'. Well, why not play? There are plenty of free websites to play poker with fake chips.

(Use you're nickname from here, so we can generate some rivalry).

Do you have a poker story...

Sometimes I'm good, sometimes I'm terrible. Would it be possible to create a CFC only poker room? (Or am I missing something with the above?)

Well, the tables at various sites are public, but we can sit at the same one (a 6 or even 2 seat table).

EDIT:

Available network name: CFCpoker
password: poker

ps. If you have other ways of networking for a game, feel free to post them. Hamachi is just an easy, secure way for cfcers to get together for a quick game. (I found mIRC to be impossible).

I used to play a bit more, mainly with friends, and then ventured online to play with fake chips. I even thought of playing for a bit of money online, but discarded the idea. I've found better things to do with my time, it just isn't really worth it.

Last night, I was playin with a few friends 5$ buy-ins. I lost all my money. Bought in again. Lost all my money. Bought in again. Won back all my money. lol

Its all about patience, but thats no fun, I like to play alot. I'm usually very up and down, but end up around even.

I definately don't have the patience to play for fake chips. Having real money on the line is better and more exciting.

you can pretty much this on just about any poker site. Some require you to organize a bit via mirc or other communication tools to ensure that you will actually play at the same table (play money tables fill up rather quickly and are usually not very enjoyable if you don't know the competition).

I actually started out using the 2007 version of the PC game WSOP, no registration required. We then moved on to pokerstars which was annoying because tables filled up so fast. Some moved on to VictorChandler from there because they (used?) to give 10$ out to new registrees (takes about 3-4 days) plus a bit more based on the rake you create. Probably closest to the quick "real" poker experience you can get since it carries the risk of not being able to play anymore once you go bust but involves no financial burden. Some moved on to FullTilt to play the freeroll tourneys and grind up through the SnGs. Some just didn't like poker that much and quit.

Hope that helped you.

I know how to play. The game is much more complex than it appears on the surface. I believe there should actually be a poker strategy thread in the sports subforums, but I don't want to start it. Actually this thread might be better in the sports subforums anyhow.

Sure, we'll put it right next to the billiards, bowling, golf, and chess threads. ;)

precisely. poker is - especially in the lower levels where everybody is still infected by coverage of TV poker - a game of patience. Learned that the hard way and still have trouble with it.

If you want to get a bit more serious about poker I strongly advice playing through those levels to where aggressive/loose play can work. Buying in for a big amount of RL money and just donking that off is a horrible idea, unless you have the cash to burn. Playing through the levels (following simple rules like: I will not buy in for more than 5% of my bankroll. I will move down a level when I can't afford the limit I want to play at and work my way up again) is extremely motivating (for some) because you will get to despise the lower levels.

Have no bankroll (you don't want to spend any money)? Play freerolls, you will learn patience there. If that isn't your thing you might not want to play for money you can't afford to lose. Scratch that, you should never do that. Money you are not willing to lose.

I like to think I'm pretty good. I made hundreds overseas playing poker. And as of late I have been financing my weekly spending by winning Friday night poker games.

I hate playing online though. I hate it.

Once a month me and a couple of other guy have a poker game. We are usually between 7 and 10 and we play 2 games with 20$ buy-ins. It often go something like First place takes 100$, second place 40$ and third place 20$.

Usually the winners end up paying for pizza and beer so it balances things up.

Last game I played I finished second in an epic final hand all-in showdown. I had pocket 8s, the other guy had pocket kings. Flop turns: King - King - 8!!!!!!!!!
I'm under the gun so with my fullhouse on the flop I go all in (since he had raised pre-flop)..... the guy calls.... I open my hand while doing the winner dance and mocking..... oh the shock and outrage when he turned his hand. UNPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!

This is really the most unlikely set of hand I have ever witnessed.

HA!

Last Friday I was playing. I was in a similar situation, except my opponent bet horribly. And I ended up losing a little bit, but not a lot to quad kings. The next hand I got a jack and a nine. Flop comes, queen, jack, nine. Great. I bet strong, he called. Then another jack. I bet stronger, he called. River comes, another jack, I put him all in, he calls. First I show my nine (he thinks I have a boat.) He puts down his queen thinking he's won it, then I show my jack.

Oh, he was so pissed off.

I remember on my deployment we had a hand where I had pocket fours and caught quads.

I was a chip leader at the time. I got THREE people all in, including 2nd place. One guy had a high straight. One guy had an ace high flush. The third guy had a jacks over four's full house (he had pocket jacks.) So at this point, you can imagine the atmosphere in this room, everybody getting one upped. I sit back, shake my head and say, "all I got is two pairs." And the guy with the boat thought he was in the clear and started raking chips. And then I laid my fours right next to the other fours. Oh man, people went ballistic. It was the greatest poker moment ever.

I like to play when I've got the whole evening, people to sit with and bs about stuff, and something to eat and drink.

Online poker lacks something...

:undecide:

I suppose I'm a decent player; I don't make money, but I don't lose it, either.

PS: slowrolling is considered very poor etiquette unless you know the other guys/gals very well. Personally, I consider all those horrible poker movies to be responsible for the habit.

I'm up for a game.. how can we organise playing at the same times?

Texas Hold em' is my favorite variant of Poker. Though I tend to play conservatively (Not blow it all like Faye :p)

The answer to your other question is on Ask people 2, no.53.:)

You don't know me very well. Don't you remember when I told you I was pretty much just an ---hole?

But no, I wouldn't do that sort of thing at a casino, and I only do that with people I know well that don't hesitate to do it right back. It's all in good fun.
