Police mod v1.0 for BTS 3.13

There are two separate lines IMO. I will not link explorer to minuteman if I was you. There's room for militia and special ops in the recon units category.

The recon units category: The very definition of of the word reconnaissance, sometimes referred to as scouting, is the act of exploring (especially military or medical) to gain information.

Special Operations Group missions can include: Training, Zero Contact Reconnaissance, Surveillance, Denial Ops, Raids, Ambush, Long Range Patrols, Scout/Sniper Ops.

I'm sure you have heard of a patrol car. Police do patrols and investigations. Minutemen militia do have reconnaissance and Special Operations missions. For example: The militia or minutemen have 8 man team formations that can perform reconnaissance patrol missions. They were also the true forbearers of today's National Guard.

Based upon these facts, I believe all 4 of these units, the Scout, the Explorer, the Minuteman militia and the Police have closely related missions. Therefore, IMO, the upgrade path for the Explorer to Militia is justified.

Very Respectfully,

I would suggest not include. I question militia as well- mainly because it delutes the intitial impulse and name of the mod.
I put a request in for an Ice Exploration mod that uses hypothetical explorer
upgrade and i like the idea of doing something with that useless unit-

Perhaps I should rename the mod to something else. :dunno:

Yes, :agree: After exploration of all land has been accomplished the Explorer unit really becomes useless. Providing an upgrade path fixes that problem.

Minutemen was a unique name for Colonial America militia during the American Revolution, so I don't think calling the unit "minuteman" would be very appropriate.

Do you have a recommendation for how you would rename the Minuteman unit? Have you play tested the unit?

Police should not be able to defend or attack. If an attacking military unit attacks a city with only police, then the police scatter, possibly adding to the resistance. The reason why police should not defend is tha national defense is simply not in the job description of a police officer.

Police:available with code of laws -- cheap with base +10% catch spy, then +1 happiness with courthouse, +1 happiness with jail, +10 catch spy with intelligence agency, +1 happiness with police state.

Also, rather than a police unit, maybe a police specialist would be better -- same benefits as above.

Not always, sometimes the AI sends in something stupid like a maceman or a wounded unit. Police are uselss if they can't defend either.

How about a penalty for having too many police if you don't use the Police State civic?

I am not sure if you used this, but in the Promotions XML there is a "RevoltPrevention" tag.

In warlords I used this tag to create a promotion called "Police", which I then gave to a unit "Military Police"

The unit was basically a weak Infantry (STR 12 or something to that effect), but with the promotion would cut down on resistance in a city.

If the "RevoltPrevention" tag does in fact cut down on resistance in a city, it is just the idea I was looking for. Thanks, I'll check it out.

Not useless if all you're doing is keeping the domestic population in-line -- police aren't military units and shouldn't be played as such.

There are many examples of Police forces cooperating with occupying armies. The Channel Islands during WWII is the primary example that springs to mind. The police didn't fight nor did they change sides but worked alongside the Germans. So the police units you have should not be eliminated by an attacker but captured in a similar manner to the way workers are captured.

I checked out the Promotions file and neither the "RevoltPrevention" tag nor the "iRevoltProtection" tag exist in BTS. It's only found in Warlords. :(

You may want to look again, BTS includes the Warlords Assets.

the tag is after the Kamikaze tag.

My 2 cents:

"iRevoltProtection" exists in Civ4PromotionInfos.xml (BTS/Warlords).
"RevoltPrevention" exists probably somewhere else but not in Civ4PromotionInfos.xml and also not in CIV4UnitSchema.xml.
It might have been modded in...

I think this is a really cool idea! :D I like it how the police can potentially band together to form a weak defence against enemies. The other "decrease civil unrest" and "thwarts spies" makes this a really worthwhile unit that you should keep in each city. I suggest making them require the police station (and maybe the jail as well) built in the city before they can be produced. I'm pretty sure there's a required building tag in the BTS unit infos.

When I make my Expanded version of Cultural Diversity, I'll be including this (credits to you of course).

The iRevoltProtection tag was the one I was talking about, I didn't have the files in front of me, and was going off memory.

In game, for the promotion it says -X% Revolt Protection/Prevention, or something to that effect.

I haven't played Civ in a couple weeks or so and havent looked at the files in jsut about as long.

Hi ! Can you re-upload the modcomp, please ? I want to add it to my mod ;).

Thanks.
