I would *hardly* call them a safe bet when Machu Picchu isn't even in the game.

Unless it's a unique replacement for the Government District, it would be an odd omission to leave out a wonder so intrinsically tied to a civ.

Honestly, I wouldn't place my bets too high that every continent will get representation in R&F. I mean, between Civ V's two xpacs, Assyria was the only "Asian" civ we ever received.
Well they made up for it with this expansion by adding a lot from Asia.
As for the Inca, I'm under the impression that the palace in the capital could resemble Machu Picchu, if we don't ever get it as a wonder.

Indonesia as well, though that is still a small addition (and Gods and Kings had none (unless the Huns count?) with the Maya, Celts, Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Byzantium, Ethiopia, and Carthage).

I couldn't believe this but it's true... Unless you count Indonesia, Asia only had one Civilization added via expansion packs. Did get a couple through DLC but still...

The entire point of including Dido, though, is that she was the legendary founder of Carthage; having her rule from Tyre would be like having William Bradford lead America...from London. Carthage had enough not-Hannibal rulers to not need to select one of dubious historicity, and Phoenicia simply lacks compelling leaders. Hiram of Tyre is the only one we know more about than a name on a slab of stone--and what we know of him is that he sold some wood and skilled laborers to Solomon (plus who is father and son are). I don't call that "big personality." :p Hamilcar Barca would be one such choice. A Magonid like Mago I or Hasdrubal I (of no relation to Hasdrubal the Fair) might be another.

I agree, but the problem is finding a leader. The Phoenicians had writing but kept poor records.

You know those old you tube videos of Hitler playing civ? This post made me think that someone should make a youtube video series of historic leaders discussing why their civ hasn't been included in the game yet, or why another leader was chosen over them.

Famous ancient civs:
Babylon (out)
Assyria
Hittites (out)
Minoans (unlikely)
Mycenaean (more Greece!)
Akkadians
Some Canaanite/Syrian civ based on CS

Oooh, Assyria could come out of no where!

I'm calling the Pope to intercede with Firaxis and make sure it's Inca, Ottomans, Italy.

As backup, I'm calling President Trump and Oprah Winfrey.
You just reminded me that we've had an American student in our class today. We were playing some games and then we divided in three groups, and we were playing scenes. Eventually, we were supposed to think about a problem in a school, in our country, and a worldwide problem. The worldwide problem were religious wars and oppression, and the group I was picked to play a scene about this. We've played a scene where a Crusade against Muslims was called. I played the Pope who called for the Crusade :p

The only safe bet is the Inca I think.

I think they're actually not likely at all anymore. I doubt South America gets their civ this time.

Has anything changed to effect your opinion on that other than there being only three civs remaining?

Still hoping for Italy and the Ottomans, I'll be very disappointed if it is Zulus and Celts. I'm guessing some more South American civs as well, Incas or Mayans are a must but I would not mind getting Argentina under Rosas or St Martin

So Carthage are out!

I still feel like we are going to get the Inca, along with one European Civ and either the Ottomans or an African nation (still no Kumasi CS, right?). I'd stick with my original picks of Inca, Ottomans and Italy but for the somewhat irritating restriction of there only being one UD left and no more UBs.

Anyone have any bright ideas for an Italian or Ottoman unique tile improvement?

Otherwise we might be getting Zulu with an Ikanda district and the Celts/Scotland with a broch or crannog, after all :mischief:

I will have to change my guess since Carthage is out, although my confidence in them had started to fade yesterday when I saw how many Classical civs are really in the game right now.

So I pick
Ottomans
Inca
Ashanti

Sorry to the 54 people who voted for Carthage.....

I voted Georgia, Ottomans, Inca, and Mali. Going to stick with those picks.

For the ottomans possible UI's could be caravanserai (not adjacent to other caravanserais) or kulliye (must be adjacent to city center).

Wikipedia said:
A külliye (Arabic: كلية‎) is a complex of buildings associated with Ottoman architecture centered on a mosque and managed within a single institution, often based on a waqf (charitable foundation) and composed of a madrasa, a Dar al-Shifa ("clinic"), kitchens, bakery, Turkish bath, other buildings for various charitable services for the community and further annexes.

Well, I think I voted Carthage, so minus. Still hopeful for my remaining two of Inca and the Ottomans (I also picked Georgia). I'd enjoy Mali, Songhai, or Ashanti.

Mali, Inca and the Ottomans are still my bets.
